Essay
edit"Since marine shipping moves nearly 80% of goods by tonnage and the trend of shipping is expected to double and may triple by 2050, decarbonization strategies are critical in tackling global warming and marine health."
This reads like a hook of an essay. The reference attached, ref #4, makes no mention of what is "critical" to "tackle" global warming. Marine shipping is probably more eco-friendly than most other forms of shipping, but the verbiage used in this article takes a lot of liberties compared to what I'd personally consider encyclopedic. Talking about the decarbonization of the shipping industry is likely a noteworthy topic, but this feels like something that should be merged / consolidated with the Environmental effects of shipping.
This article probably has a future as this topic will certainly receive more coverage over time, but I'm going to @Chidgk1: the submitter and @StartOkayStop: the approver for thoughts about merging, because to me this feels like a subtopic of shipping's environmental effects, i.e. this exists as a proposed solution to that. - Actually, I should have brought this up here too, but Environmental effects of shipping#Decarbonization of shipping already exists as a subsection at the above article, and seems to be a lot more neutrally worded already. At this juncture I'd suggest that this material be merged to that location, and have this title stay as a redirect to said section. Utopes (talk / cont) 02:01, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- thanks both of you for pointing out that section - I feel a lot of the detail in that section should be moved here and the section rewritten in more summary style Chidgk1 (talk) 10:54, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- please tag anything not neutral thanks Chidgk1 (talk) 10:55, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't even aware that Environmental effects of shipping#Decarbonization of shipping even existed, so thanks for bringing it up. In that regard, I would support merging this article into that section. I do think that there is the risk of that section eventually needing to be split back into its own article, especially as the topic becomes more relevant. StartOkayStop (talk) 04:43, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- If you wish to formally propose a merge you would need to do so in a new section as the title of this section is different. However I would oppose a merge as this article will no doubt expand enormously over the coming years Chidgk1 (talk) 10:45, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Good point about that sentence - tagged to remind myself to maybe change sentence - please tag any more problems thanks Chidgk1 (talk) 10:50, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

- Other problems: - I have 2 issues with this hook. Firstly, ships aren't making the ocean into acid, but more acidic. Secondly, the ships themselves aren't making oceans more acidic, it's the carbon emissions. I would reword this as "maritime shipping is helping to make the ocean more acidic?"

@PerfectSoundWhatever: Hopefully I have dealt with cite issues above and thanks for hook suggestion - I tried to make it a bit shorter - how about

- Thanks, everything looks good except for the "acid" part of the hook. I would approve this hook. Is this OK?

@PerfectSoundWhatever: I don't think we need the word "maritime", as it is not in the title of the article and almost all shipping acidifies the ocean not just maritime (your environmentally friendly cycle courier "delivers" your pizza they don't "ship" it). However ALT2 is fine by me, but as the nominator I am not allowed to tick it off. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:39, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying, but the hook should be true to the source. Saying "shipping" in general isn't what the source says. Argubaly, adding "maritime" makes the hook more interesting (shipping across the ocean affects the ocean itself!). Ticking ALT2 only. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 17:41, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- @PerfectSoundWhatever: Is there something else I need to do here please? Chidgk1 (talk) 17:11, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
