Translation from Japanese
editWould some kind person please help me translate a website name and other information from Japanese to English?
The website at http://www.jpmoth.org is used almost a thousand times in Wikipedia for information about moths of Japan. I've seen it referenced as "Moths of Japan", "Japanese Moths", "Digital Moths of Japan", "Digital Moths of Asia" and "jpmoth.org". There's no author, date, or publisher in our references. I'm hoping we could have the author, the name of the website in Japanese, a translation of that name, and anything else that would be helpful.

- Japanese name: みんなで作る日本産蛾類図鑑 , English name: An Identification Guide of Japanese Moths Compiled by Everyone (this translation is on the actual site, but I can't tell if its what they've chosen for their official name or if it was machine translated because it gives machine translation links right after it, though I feel it's a good translation so perhaps it is official). Established: November 5th, 2011. Editor/Author: This one's tough. I found a note saying the site was managed by three people which are ニワカガマニア (Niwakaga, this is a handle, I can't find their real name), 川上洋一 (I can't confirm the reading of this name with the information I was able to find, they go by the handle 蛾LOVE which translates as Moth LOVE), and 神保宇嗣 (Jinbo Utsugi). They do have a contact address, so if you like I could ask for clarification on the author/editor situation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erynamrod (talk • contribs) 12:03, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

- @Erynamrod: If you could contact them and ask how they want their names translated to English, that would help. I've never seen names listed in the form "ニワカガマニア, 川上洋一 & 神保宇嗣" and I'm not sure about "Niwakaga, Moth Love & Jinbo Utsugi". Thank you. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 03:22, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Tokyo airport in kanji shape?
editIn Olga Tokarczuk's "Flights" I found a reference to a Tokyo airport (doesn't say which) that is said to be built in the shape of a kanji character. I was wondering whether that's true (the book is partially fictional) and if yes, which airport is meant and what the kanji is. bamse (talk) 17:56, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

First annual Tree of Life Decemberween contest
editAfter all the fun with the Spooky Species Contest last month, there's a new contest for the (Northern hemisphere's) Winter holidays at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life/Contest. It's not just Christmas, but anything festive from December-ish. Feel free to add some ideas to the Festive taxa list and enter early and often. --Nessie (talk) 17:46, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
Is Meitetsu Department Store notable?
editJapanese version is rather long, but our entry as written fails WP:NCOMPANY, and I don't see much in English to help. Can someone add a single referenced sentence establishing notability so we don't waste time on PROD/AfD? --Ping creator User:Gryffindor. Japanese-language journals and academic resources
editHello WikiProject Japan. Right now I'm writing a paper on micronations in Japan for graduate school, but I've had some difficulty finding sources about the subject, particularly in English. What resources, whether in Japanese or in English, can I try looking for that may have information on the topic? I've also tried the usual English-language resources such as JSTOR, without much success. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:13, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Narutolovehinata5:! I usually use JStage. However, when I searched for "ミニ独立国" on Cinii and IRDB, I got a lot more relevant-looking results. You should try all three, since you know what's relevant to your paper better than I do. If you decide to use Cinii, please keep in mind that they don't host the articles themselves, and you'll need to find them in your own university's library or order them through interlibrary loan.
- I didn't get any results for any of the other translations of "micronation" that are listed on Wikidata, so make sure to search using the phrase "ミニ独立国". I got the term from this article.
- Also, have you already asked a reference librarian at your school for help? If what I've written doesn't help then you should ask them. Mcampany (talk) 02:00, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
Discography charts
editI looked through Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Record charts/Sourcing guide/Japan and it said the Billboard Japan's physical albums releases should not be listed. Are the physical album sales the same as Oricon's? I also saw several articles where Hot Albums (combined downloads, streaming, and physicals) were included... is that allowed to be listed too? lullabying (talk) 23:01, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- If you read the page you linked, your question is answered there. Billboard's album charts are the same as SoundScan's, so they aren't used because it's just the same data again. Oricon's are different than SoundScan's, so are also different than Billboard's. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:39, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Nihonjoe: I haven't seen an article use SoundScan on discography charts, but rather Billboard Japan's Hot Albums chart (which is different from Top Album Sales as they combine streaming, downloads, and physicals, while Top Album Sales counts physical only). That's the only thing that bugs me right now, not to mention that a lot of J-pop articles are outdated and don't follow MOS. lullabying (talk) 16:47, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Nihonjoe: I had my edit reverted and the editor who did this said the guide was outdated and that SoundScan no longer publishes sales, so Billboard Japan is preferred. I already commented on the original guide creator's talk page but I have gotten no response. I am not sure what to do. lullabying (talk) 17:32, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: I suggest asking at either Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Pop music or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Record Charts. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:34, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Sakura Miyawaki
editThere's currently an edit war taking place at Sakura Miyawaki. For the past few months, several users have been changing her article image (which is File:Sakura Miyawaki at Music Bank on April 12, 2019.png due to finding her the picture unflattering, but the image replacements are either older or are copyright. For the past week, there is an IP editor who keeps changing the image despite invites to discussions. I requested page protection and administrator intervention, but both were rejected. Another user requested page projection and when it was lifted, the editor is changing the image without attempting to discuss and has even vandalized the 2019 image at WikiCommons. Not sure where to go from here. lullabying (talk) 05:07, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
