Speedy deletion of War on Vandalism
editThank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. SIS 09:10, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Please note - I tagged your article because there is no such well-defined, notable event as a "War on Vandalism", not in encyclopedic terms (see WP:NOTABILITY). I realize you created the article in good faith, so that's why I tagged it as a 'test page' under the Speedy Deletion criteria and not as 'nonsense' or 'unremarkable'. Kind regards, SIS 15:01, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
PS - Have you read WP:AGF? I find the notice on this Talkpage rather aggressive. SIS 15:01, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Switched on Gardener
editA tag has been placed on Switched on Gardener requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}

Error regarding Template start-date warning?
editI am confused by your note on my talk page concerning {{start-date}}. What is the rationale that I should be prevented from editing it? It is very low use, and is currently being discussed by Wikiproject Time as a substitute for {{start date}} The changes I am currently putting in have to do with support of extreme dates such as BCE etc. -J JMesserly (talk) 07:45, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- No problem- I suppose I should use edit summaries more. And it is easy to confuse this template with {{start date}} which is extremely high use. But that one is locked anyway. -J JMesserly (talk) 07:50, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

editSorry for the warning. I didn't realize how far back the vandalism went back. As soon as i did the revert I realized the problem. I undid the vandalism manually, but didn't remove the warning here. please accept my apologies for my error. Alansohn (talk) 04:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
AIV reports and the such
editHey there! Thanks a ton for reporting users to WP:AIV, as you did here. I'm just here to tell you, well, two things (or maybe three, depending on how I feel when I reach the end of my second point); firstly, keep up the great work! Secondly, IP addresses are separated from accounts by the fact that they are connected to a computer or internet service provider rather than one single password and username. For example, an IP address may be anchored to an entire educational institution, such as a library, and I'm pretty sure Qatar has a single IP. This means that one address may be shared by many different people. The other possibility is that the address is dynamic; for increased security and other reasons, some internet service providers cycle IP addresses throughout their clientele, periodically switching who connects to the internet with what address.
For this reason, we can't block IP addresses for small amounts of vandalism, or vandalism spread across a long period of time; rather, we try to block them only for short periods and only if they are being very disruptive.
I apologize if you knew this all and I've been preaching to space; I just thought I'd drop in and make sure, so that in the future you don't have to bother with those little incidents. Thanks a lot for helping us out though, it's much appreciated! Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 04:37, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi SamB135, I'm sorry the effort didn't pay off, the result can go both ways. Afaik the uploader is encouraged to rebutt :-). By "special" I was thinking of photos like File:Evacuating Columbine.jpg or the ODT one at Aramoana with the STG huddled outside Gray's house, just before they kick down the door. XLerate (talk) 13:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nah it's all good -- the alpha apartments photo wasn't really, like you said, a photo that shows anything special about the AOS. But I'll still keep looking for good photos of the AOS and there's bound to be one somewhere. Another thing that's getting increasingly hard is finding sites and cites on the AOS where new information is available so we can satisfy the [citation needed] on the AOS article. Cheers, --SamB135 TalkContribs 05:21, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello SamB135. I've added the information (reference included) to the article Malaysia – New Zealand relations. In my opinion the stand-alone article about this treaty is superfluous. --Vejvančický (talk) 07:58, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I still think you should develop your article as a section of Malaysia – New Zealand relations. It would be better than split up the information into many little articles. The New Zealand - Malaysia Free Trade Agreement could serve as an useful redirect. --Vejvančický (talk) 08:13, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of January 2010 Gaza Tunnels airstrike
editA tag has been placed on January 2010 Gaza Tunnels airstrike, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. TheFEARgod (Ч) 16:10, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I have noticed you have put up a photo montage of the 2000s decade. I myself started the montages, I had another alias: User:ZenCopain, and did one for almost every decade. However, a few administrators felt that the pictures in my montages where copyrighted, even though they weren't, and I cited the sources. They were deleted, and I gave up the montages. However, seeing as you seem interested yourself in the subject, I was wondering if you like assisting me in replacing all the wrongfully-deleted photo montages. Nice montage anyways! CatJar (talk) 20:36, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have finished the montage for the nineties. If you like to proceed to work on the 80s and 70s, then feel free. I'll return tomorrow. CatJar (talk) 02:09, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, I just finished the 80's, but you can expand it or work on the 70s.CatJar (talk) 04:36, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Good, I'll do the 60's then. CatJar (talk) 04:39, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- You may have to look around more in the history file on the 70s in order to get more pictures and events on the montage. Good Luck!CatJar (talk) 05:02, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Just Brining to your attention that you neglected to add social networking to the 2000's montage. Maybe you should bump Katrina out and add Facebook. *Hint Hint, Nudge Nudge* ;) --Kuzwa (talk) 04:53, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well I'm more concerned about the overwhelming death and destruction in the montage. Considering probably the most important lifestyle development of the decade was social networking on the internet it probably should be included. :) --Kuzwa (talk) 04:57, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Look, look, look. I made montages like these a few years ago to reflect events and people, all-in-real-life. Fads and works relating to or of fiction are not included. CatJar (talk) 05:02, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
File:Irish Referendum Lisbon Treaty 2 Vote No.jpg
- Here's two good images to replace it. You can choose which one you want to add. The first is Spirit and Opportunity landing on Mars, which would add a science development of the decade to the montage. The other is a poster telling Irish voters to vote down the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon, which is an important landmark treaty in Europe towards the creation of a super-government if you will within the European Union. :)
Also at the above comment, the decade is not just limited to what happened politically, militarily and naturally, it also covers science, lifestyles and really pretty much anything that happened, or was created in the 10 year period. Sure clothes, hair, slang and lingo are probably not important, but the rise of the internet and instant communication is. :) --Kuzwa (talk) 05:06, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Herman Rockefeller
editAn editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Herman Rockefeller. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Herman Rockefeller. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:1970s montage2.PNG
editThank you for uploading File:1970s montage2.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ℳℴℯ ε 07:59, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I agree with another editor that this is a bit much--and it is certainly not very well sourced, since the article you cite is actually our article, which may be why it says "WARNING: DO NOT CITE" on top of the page. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 05:50, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. New deal for page patrollers
editHi SamB135,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

- Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list
Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

March Madness 2017
editG'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

editAs we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. editGreetings,
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Sub Headings
editHi SamB135,
Yourself and many disagree with my use of subheadings. Let's talk about it, and feel free to bring on anyone else. I choose you because your reason was different than other is worth listening to your argument. In my favor I'd like to point out that some these subheadings have been tweaked for typos and trimming reason, hence this proves to me that there is a minority that weren't bothered to least of the presence of the subheadings.
I understand why my work on Jean-Claude Van Damme was questionable. The article was very dire when I first saw, and even if I like some of his work a lot. I didn't feel the need to get involved deeply. So even if I made his career in chronological order it was dire when I left it alone for a while. I was still working on it when you showed up so some of them where a meh in my opinion. But I was trying to reducing them and had the intention still trimming them.
Something that took time to grow on me is to remove film titles from main headings.
I do not see how it makes the TOC unreadable. The main argument that was thrown at me. I wear glasses and could read it. So I need to understand why is it unreadable. I asked but no answers. Maybe you can explain on their behalf, I don't know.
Your reasoning is no actor should have subheadings like that. So my questions are: Why? Where do they apply?
My arguments are as followed. Feel free and anyone for that matter to refute them.
I think that the subheading clearly points out the milestone being accomplished by the performance artist at that point. This helps as an editor to click directly at the section that needed work and be on it right away. Second as reader, it allows me to click on the event that interest me and skip directly to it.
Let look at the Leonardo Dicaprio, and Chuck Norris pages where I did some heavy work. This is the pages before you deleted all subheadings. I think in these articles they are spotless. I feel they point out the milestone strait to the point. They are as short as they can be. In the case of Dicaprio many films are a current milestone.

Your versions https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Leonardo_DiCaprio&diff=853862870&oldid=852669599 https://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Chuck_Norris&diff=853989605&oldid=852817267
I say: 1958 to 1968: Military service, Martial Art champion, Bruce Lee friendship, and training celebrities. You say: 1958 to 1968: Beginnings My opinion: I feel that the below heading engulf all that he accomplishes there. All these element play a role with his rise to fame. On the other hand just saying 'beginnings', well I know it's the beginning it's the first section. Also it doesn't say anything. We are talking about an athlete turned actor.
I say: 1991–1995: Major projects, critical breakthrough, and first leading role. You say: 1991–1995: Major projects My opinion: I will say this both our headings are misleading because he had a role in Commercials for major brands, plus he did several episodes of Santa Barbara who was a big soap opera and two episodes a Lassie. Those are major and successful properties whether we like them or not. Within that period of time his first lead roles comes into play and most importantly his first Academy Award nomination. Something should be said about the first leading role and the Nomination.
Looking forward for the chat, best to you.Filmman3000 (talk) 22:29, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
