Editing as entertainment
Apparently, we watch some of the same articles. So I went to your editing history and immediately struck with your incredible sense of humour. I never realized that creating Redirects could be so fun OR give hints on new vocabulary trends! Now when ever someone asks me, rhetorically, "Who thinks up this stuff?" I know the answer. I like your style. Best Regards,
I didn't know where to place the thanks from the cabal of the outcasts for your entertaining TFA until I found this thread ;) - Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, precious again! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:16, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Lucky and Squash now a GA!
Hi Neelix, its fantastic that lucky and squash is now a good article. hope you don't mind that I originally rated it as a c class for child lit project, I am conservative in my ratings, being inexperienced with articles beyond a start. I will be including it in my list of GA examples for future reference. :) Coolabahapple (talk) 04:01, 23 October 2015 (UTC) |
Explanation please
What were you thinking when you sat down and created these 398 Redirects to Insulated glazing all in a row? How could these possibly be useful. The vast majority of them are not even real words. Legacypac (talk) 08:59, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

A couple of redirects...
...would probably suffice. I've asked another editor to have a look. Generally speaking we include those terms that seem most likely to merit a redirect, as opposed to every conceivable slang offering. Thank you, 2601:188:0:ABE6:FC48:1604:D3F5:EB14 (talk) 20:02, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

- I very much agree, why in the world would you create all of those redirects? Most of which aren't even a possibility of someone typing in search. Dave Dial (talk) 21:38, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Redirects and activity on Commons
I notice that you are editing again on Wikimedia Commons. Would you mind helping tidy up the redirect farm you created here first, please? -- The Anome (talk) 17:27, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- The Anome, I think Neelix has some cleaning up to do there as well, with those categories that also give us a bad name. Drmies (talk) 18:58, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'd like to hope that some minor progress may have been made by Neelix vis a vis their editing on Commons; please see the discussion and my comments there. I hope that Neelix may make further progress there. But yes, there's potential for cleanup on Commons, too. With any luck, I hope Neelix might help with that. -- The Anome (talk) 19:03, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, and your best course
I'm both embarrassed and sorry about the way you've been treated. en-Wikipedia concurrently represents both the best and worst of humankind. The best, of course, because of the five million freely licensed articles written due to some combination of altruism and egoism. The worst because once an editor has been cast into the role of "villian" civility and WP:AGF go out the window -- usually with invocations of "suicide pact" as if that justifies acting like assholes. I don't know, nor do I particularly care, what you were thinking when you created the redirects; both my personal inclination and the supposed AGF policy is to believe they were done with good intentions. I believe a lot of the vehemence is because many of the redirects have gender connotations in a year when Wikipedia is struggling with gender related issues.
I can't stop the mob and, although I've reminded arbcom of its prior practice I don't have a good enough read on arbcom 2015 to predict what they're going to do. What I do know is you can end all or a lot of the drama by simply resigning sysop at WP:BN. You don't have to apologize, beg, grovel or anything, simply say "please remove my sysop bit." CSD U1 your user page and walk away -- Wikipedia is just a website and real life is the best antidote. NE Ent 14:01, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- User:NE Ent - I think you misunderstand WP:AGF. We assume good faith until it is abundantly clear that an editor is not acting in good faith. Neelix was warned about this and continued to create tens of thousands of such redirects. He has had such good-faith and civility shown to him he is still not blocked and an admin. I am absolutely 100% confident any other editor would be indef blocked by now. Wikipedia should not be a place women feel uncomfortable and harassed. I am not even a woman and I feel deeply uncomfortable about many of those redirects, some of which were vile and abhorrent such as "Tuberous boobies" or "Tiny titties" or " Hypoplastic boobies" or "Booby cancer" or "Booby milk" or "Booby cyst" or "Titty cancer" or "Minuscule titties" or "Titty milk". Not to mention the hundreds if not thousands more about women's "shapes" and "tits". For you to defend such indefensible actions is worrying. Many of the redirects were deeply misogynistic. The shrine for Tara Teng was incredibly disturbing, indeed stomach-churning. If you don't feel Heelix should apologise for his actions at all if you (instead you apologise to him for crying out loud) and if you "don't care" that he did this you are part of the problem. AusLondonder (talk) 21:43, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Disagreement is reasonable, but your last sentence (i.e. "

- AusLondonder, I do see how. Please refrain: Ent is doing what Ent thinks is right, Ent is doing it in fairly measured terms and is editing and acting perfectly within policy, and AGF most certainly applies to Ents. Drmies (talk) 00:26, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- I disagree with what he has written, as do a good many others. I feel I am entitled to express that view. I personally did not accuse NE Ent of acting in bad faith AusLondonder (talk) 00:31, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- "You are part of the problem". The hypothetical in front of it is just like "I'm sorry if you feel offended". Your feelings, like Neelix's elsewhere, are irrelevant: you can express your views in certain places, though not necessarily here as a tag-along to Ent's words, but you may not make personal attacks. That is all. Drmies (talk) 01:01, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- You are taking my words slightly out of context. I do not believe that my words constituted such a serious personal attack as to violate WP:NPA. AusLondonder (talk) 01:08, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

This is to inform you that the discussion at ANI is closed, with the results listed there. Please read it all carefully, but note particularly "...largely inline with the majority view, a one-year topic ban is imposed preventing the creation of any redirects (excluding incidental ones as a result of reasonable page moves). Neelix, with all that's going on, I don't want to say anything else besides thank you for resigning your adminship. It was the right decision. There's much more that could be said, and it's not all over, but for now, just thank you. --BDD (talk) 22:23, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thank you...
...for voluntarily turning in the bit. I do wish you had decided to do so sooner, but it was the right decision no matter when you made it. When you return from your Wikibreak, I hope that you will join in the effort to mitigate some of the problems caused by your past editing, and that your future editing will be informed by the lessons to be drawn from the current incident. You clearly have much to offer Wikipedia, as long as you keep those other impulses under control. Best, BMK (talk) 22:40, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above
This case was opened to address the behavior of Neelix (talk · contribs), a long-time editor and administrator. Neelix has subsequently resigned as an administrator and acknowledged that he may not regain administrator status without a new, successful request for adminship.[2]. In addition, an extensive community discussion on the incidents noticeboard has resulted in a one-year topic ban from Neelix's creating redirects.
Under these circumstances, this case is closed without further action. The restriction already imposed at ANI remains in force. Neelix is strongly counseled to take the concerns expressed by the community into account in his future editing, and cautioned that he may be subject to additional sanctions if problems recur.
