FAC

edit

Aoba - yes, it's hot at present, and I don't think I've seen FAC so factionalised for quite a time. That's a shame, as it makes it an uncongenial atmosphere for collaborative editors. But your contributions, over a long time, have been invaluable. I really don't think now is the time to withdraw from it. I know that's presumptuous - we're all volunteers - but I think FAC will be seriously weakened by the withdrawal of experienced editors/reviewers at this point. KJP1 (talk) 00:04, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for your message! I agree that it is a shame how divisive the FAC space has gotten. I will 100% still be nominating FACs, but I think it is best for me to pause on reviewing to really take the time to self-reflect and grow so I can ideally come back as a better reviewer. If that makes any sense. With that said, I completely understand your point. The overall atmosphere/tone at the FAC seems very different than when I started back in 2016, and I wish it would become more collaborative. It just seemed more exciting back then, but maybe nostalgia is just kicking in for me. I'd be more than happy to help with easing this FAC tension as much as I can. Inna and Alexandra Stan

edit

Hey there! I just wanted to say why I reclassified "Sober" and "Take Me Home" as promotional singles, since I see that may get confusing to readers. It is not because the articles of the respective songs are going to be deleted, though.

  • For "Sober": The song was released as part of a Lidl campaign, and its music video is not a "proper" one like in the case of "Not My Baby" — it's a "home edition" video (possibly done to keep up with the trend of releasing stuff in quarantine). Also, there was no promotion going on at all for "Sober", it did not even enter the Airplay 100. I'm aware entering charts is not a criteria for single classification, but keeping in mind that "Sober" was released shortly after "Not My Baby" (and while "Not My Baby" was still climbing the charts), I'd say "Sober" should be classified as a promotional single. Add to that that there was minimum coverage of the song online. And just btw, only a lyric video was released for "Nobody" up until now, I'd say it's best to say that's a promotional single too unless more promotion happens for it.
  • For "Take Me Home": This is the most obvious one out of the two I'd say. The song was released in a live version with a minimally-produced music video. The song is very very stripped-down, and was not promoted at all (she usually does live performances for her other singles). Also, she's already teasing the release of another single online. Greets; Cartoon network freak (talk) 15:07, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for the explanation. That makes sense to me. The line between single and promotional single is becoming increasingly blurred in the age of streaming where people can release music at any time without a more "proper" schedule, but that is a much larger conversation lol. Aoba47 (talk) 16:28, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
That's sadly true. I wish Inna had more promotion and that she would focus more on promoting one single at a time than just mass-dropping stuff. But I guess that's just how it is :/ Greets; Cartoon network freak (talk) 19:48, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Agreed. She may be dropping a lot of songs because promotion is difficult with the still ongoing pandemic, but that is just my guess. I'd be curious if these songs are leading to an album or if they will just be non-album singles. Aoba47 (talk) 20:50, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Haseo

edit

Hi there. How are you doing. Since I've been playing the .hack//G.U. games in the past weeks, I also tried expanding the article of the main character Haseo. Still not planning to nominate it but could you give it a look. I wonder if the game's writer should be mentioned as creator even though another person, the one in the picture was reponsible for his overall traits. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 17:32, 16 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • I am trying my best lol. Apologies in advance because I actually do not know the answer to your last question. For the foreseeable future, I am focusing my Wikipedia time on my own projects, and I will not be doing any reviews or looking over other editors' articles. I've just had some not so great experiences with reviewing lately, and I just do not enjoy that part of this side anymore. I hope you are doing well. 18:15, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
No problem. I've just wondered if the sections like creation should be rearranged. Or also, if the game's writer should also be creator in the infobox.Tintor2 (talk) 18:35, 16 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Tintor2: From my understanding, there is not a hard and fast rule on how fictional character articles should look and be structured. For instance, I have successfully brought fictional character articles through the FAC process where the production information was before the plot summary part and vice versa. It is really up to whether or not you think the structure benefits the reader the most. I know that is a somewhat vague answer, but that's my initial reaction.
I would generally say no to a writer being mentioned as the creator because those are two separate things. It reminds me of something like Star Wars where a character is created by someone by other writers further refine and expand upon that individual to really make him or her great. I think it would be misleading to classify the writer as a creator.
I honestly do not have the time to thoroughly read through the "Creation and design" section as it is rather long, but my initial response is the subsection titles ("Concept" and "Further development") are rather vague, and it is not really clear what distinguishes the two, especially since the "Concept" subsection covers information from when the character appears in games outside of his first appearance. So the organizational strategy is not immediately transparent to me from a very quick and superficial look. Apologies for the long response, but since you have asked a few questions in your post, I wanted to get to all of them. Aoba47 (talk) 01:15, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
No problem. You've enlightened me. I'll see if I can divide the creation more carefully now. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:30, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am glad I could help. I have been playing a lot of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic over the past few weeks so maybe I could use that as an excuse to write about one of that game's characters lol. Aoba47 (talk) 01:54, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nice. I tried rearranging it like Noctis Lucis Caelum.Tintor2 (talk) 02:09, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

That seems better to me. Aoba47 (talk) 02:14, 18 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

First of all, congrats on having Melanie's article reach featured status and to also appear on the Main Page. :D Having said that, I'd suggest requesting for the article to be temporarily protected so that only registered users can edit it. From experience, lots of "salty" users and unregistered asshats love screwing with featured articles when attention is drawn to them from the Main Page. Thank you today for Melanie Barnett, about "a fictional character who appears in the American sitcom The Game, portrayed by actress Tia Mowry. Introduced in a backdoor pilot on Girlfriends as Joan Clayton's cousin, Melanie chooses to support her boyfriend Derwin Davis' career in the fictional National Football League (NFL) team the San Diego Sabres rather than attend the medical program at Johns Hopkins University. The series primarily focuses on Melanie and Derwin's rocky relationship, with Melanie's fears of infidelity serving as the core of a majority of the episodes' storylines. I found a surprisingly nice amount of coverage on the character, ranging from Melanie's character development to Mowry's casting, departure, and return. Critics responded negatively to Melanie, though the character received more positive attention from fans. Mowry's performance received primarily positive reviews from critics."! - Enjoy your break! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you today for Russell family (Passions), "about a fictional family from the American soap opera Passions, which aired on NBC from 1999 to 2007 and on DirecTV in 2007–08. The characters initially received negative feedback for their representation of an African-American family. They also received mixed feedback from cast members, with some praising their roles for expanding the image of African-American characters on television, while others felt they were not used to their full potential. The Russell family also garnered media and critical attention for its storylines involving various LGBT topics: Even though critical response was mixed to negative, the actors and show received several awards and nominations for the Russell family."! - I like that three women are pictured on today's Main page, one of them Liselotte Funcke. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:38, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Peer review

edit

Hi Aoba. Sorry I didn't get more comments in before you had to close the review due to you taking a Wikibreak. Yeah, life has been really busy and I just have had no Wikipedia time lately. I foresee being busy still for the next two weeks, then after that, hopefully I'll have at least a bit of time (fingers crossed). But I am sincerely still happy to help you with your article, as long as you're in no hurry. If you want to open another peer review when you get back from your Wikibreak (or whenever is convenient for you) just give me a ping. I hope you're well, and bye for now, Moisejp (talk) 06:13, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the message, and no need to apologize. I am getting really busy too so I completely understand. I am in absolutely no hurry with the article so whenever I do open another peer review and ping you. I plan on keeping that peer review open the maximum time possible to make sure I get as much feedback as possible to better improve the article. I hope you are doing well! I just need a break from Wikipedia for now lol. Aoba47 (talk) 16:02, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Since you are into these types of —article, I wondered if you ever watched Twin Peaks. I have been watching it on Netflix and I'm super confused lol The style of direction with little to no music makes it even more confusing. Anyway, other than that I nominated .hack//G.U. rather than Haseo as it has been further copyedited. If you have any suggestion about the article, I would appreciate it.Tintor2 (talk) 16:22, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • I have watched the first episode of Twin Peaks years ago, and although I keep meaning to get into it, I never do for whatever reason lol. The show's creator David Lynch is known for being an experimental director so I am not surprised that the show is confusing. That's actually what draws me to it lol, as I respect someone that makes a story authentically true to their vision.
  • I am taking a WikiBreak so I do not have the time right now to look through the article. There are some red error messages in the references so that's my only suggestion. Apologies for that. Aoba47 (talk) 00:39, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry. I'm still at least going to try season 1 but the direction really feels intended to be confusing with the Cooper's personality or the way some characters act in the first episode.Tintor2 (talk) 00:46, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the end I've been watching the police drama Narcos in Netflix. In regards to article, thanks to another user, .hack//G.U. became GA in the form of a coonomination. Since he is busy with other article, I decided to avoid Haseo since his article is quite big and instead nominated the smaller article Kite (.hack). Feel free to exchange reviews if you are interested.Tintor2 (talk) 21:45, 7 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, I do not have time to do a review. Good luck with your nominations. I currently do not have anything up for review to exchange anyway. Aoba47 (talk) 04:17, 8 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the end I didn't watch too much Twin Peaks as my father was interested more in police drama Narcos. Talking about police dramas, I kinda plan to nominate the villain from an anime police drama, Shogo Makishima. Since his season only lasted 22 episodes, it's quite small in comparison to other articles. If you have time, could you give it a small look. In contrast to Shinya Kogami and the others, he actually dies in his season.Tintor2 (talk) 01:31, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Unfortunately, I will not have time to look through the article as I have already promised to help other editors. I do notice a citation error for Reference 18 so that should be corrected. I also do not think the citation in the lead is necessary as information about voice actors should be included and cited within the article. One of these days, I really should watch Psycho-Pass; I remember hearing about it for the first time way back when the anime was airing. For whatever reason, I have just never found the time for it lol. Aoba47 (talk) 01:38, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
No prob. Psycho-Pass is basically Bladerunner plus a bit of 1984. Even Makishima says in an episode that the civilization resembles ones from Philip K. Dick's novels.Tintor2 (talk) 02:22, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like fun to me. I have surprisingly only watched two anime shows all the way through so I really should correct that, particularly as a huge fan of animation and the storytelling often associated with manga/anime. Aoba47 (talk) 21:54, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Message from Tease Pillar

edit

Hello, Aoba47! I am here because I wanted to tell you that I am planning on submitting my first GA nomination for one of my newly created articles "Snack" by Keke Palmer. It took me some time but from looking at the article I really felt like it deserved a GA tag and at first after I finished creating the entire article I had no interest in submitting a GA nomination for it as I felt that it still needed more time to expand but after reading the entire article again I feel like it has potential at getting a GA tag. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on the article and advice about submitting GA nominations before I do it. Good day! x Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 02:16, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the message. I do not believe a majority of the sources would be considered reliable/credible enough for a good article, and I'd recommend consulting Wikipedia:Reliable sources. I know it is discouraged to That Grape Juice, and as a reviewer, I'd question the appropriateness of sources like (SoSugary.com, Pop Base, KarenCivil.com, Papelpop.com, Febreteen.com, TheHoneyPop.com, Raw Hollywood, Rated R&B, and Soul-Addict.com). I'm not saying they are bad (as I have not looked into them), but I would thoroughly examine each so you can justify why they are reliable/credible enough for a good article. That's the first thing that jumped out to me when looking at the article.
  • On a related note, I would avoid using sites like Tunebat.com to cite key/BPM. I would also check some of the wikilinks because I am assuming you do not want ThatGrapeJuice to be linked to the article on literal grape juice. This song is still relatively new so hopefully it would get more attention when the album comes out. However, right now, I am uncertain if it meets the WP:GNG requirement for significant coverage. Apologies, but I do not think it is ready for a GAN at the moment. It may be helpful to pursue a peer review first or to contact other music-focused editors. I hope this is helpful, and remember this is just my perspective on it. I hope you are doing well! Aoba47 (talk) 03:04, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay, I understand. I feel like I will be able to add more reliable sources once I begin working on the "Music video" section as the newly released music video for the song has received a lot of coverage from popular magazine sites, blogs, etc. Thank you for the advice. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 17:31, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Aoba47! Once again, thank you for the advice on the article for Keke Palmer's song Snack. I just wanted to let you know that I have continued working on the article for Keyshia Cole's The Way It Is album in my sandbox. I have managed to collect lots of sources and info for the article but I am still having trouble with creating a few sections. As you can see, I have created sections for Music and lyrics, Release and promotion and Commercial performance but I am still having trouble understanding what it should look like and how should I add the information in a encyclopedic way. I also am thinking of working on a Legacy section since the album is very memorable and has gotten coverage from online magazines during it's anniversaries though I am having second thoughts about that. Can you try helping me by giving some advice on what I should do with the article? Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 23:25, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Tease Pillar: I would recommend looking at recently promoted featured articles on albums as that is the best way to understand how an article like this one should be structure. Before you do that though, I'd recommend sorting out the references as I see a number of formatting errors. Aoba47 (talk) 04:18, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Russell family

edit

Well, first of all, congratulations on another FA on the Main Page. :D Still think the fact that you managed to improve every single article relating to that family pretty amazing. (As a sidenote, I'm also curious. Why them, compared to the other families?) A question I had was about the show winning a GLAAD Media Award. From what I've seen, GLAAD usually doesn't indicate as to why a specific work was nominated or won. So, how can we know that the show won specifically for Simone's portrayal? After all, Vincent was present at the same time she was during the win. Maybe it also won because of him (despite his portrayal having received criticism). PanagiotisZois (talk) 21:05, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the message! I am honestly still surprised I improved all of those articles to FAs and GAs. I am still very proud of it all. I started Liz Sanbourne, which was actually only the second Wikipedia article I worked on. I stopped watching Passions in 2002 after Josh Ryan Evans' death, and I wanted to know what happened to Sanbourne. I was inspired by Amelia Marshall's conversation about the show's representation of race and that lead me to work on the articles for the rest of the Russell family. One of these days, I'd love to go back and do further work on Passions-related articles.
  • You are right that GLAAD usually does not provide this type of specifications. I believe the win was attributed to Simone since her actress (Cathy Jenéen Doe) accepted the award at the ceremony. Vincent (as well as Chad) had very prominent LGBT storyline that very likely played a factor in the win. I would be more than happy to change the prose to remove this specification, but I wanted to get your feedback first. Apologies for the super long message! Aoba47 (talk) 21:55, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Never apologize for your lengthy responses. At least to me. I always love them. :) Now, as for the clarification... I'm not sure. :/ Simone's actress accepting the award does give some precedence to her role in the show contributing to the win. Then again, I'm sure the are various shows and movie that have won the award that featured, for example, both male and female same-sex couples, but none of the actors involved accepted the award. Maybe it was only one of the producers or something. If we take that scenario and apply it to Passions, and one of the writers or producers had accepted the award, would we say that it really was Simone's arc specifically that garnered the award? Hm... It definitely is an interesting thing to consider. PanagiotisZois (talk) 22:23, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • It is unclear, so I have changed how this information is represented in the Russell family article and the Simone Russell article to avoid any speculation. It is looks better in the "Accolades" subsection of the Russell family article anyway as it keeps all of the award information in one area. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! PR

edit

Hi, Aoba. It's been a long time coming. I hope you're doing well. As you may have known, my FAC work with 1989 (Taylor Swift album) has gone not so well due to prose and research concerns. I've overhauled the article, and I'd appreciate if you could have some input (especially regarding the lack of Google Scholar sources, which stilll seems to be bugging a number of editors). If you need anything in return, just contact me and I'd be happy to do it :) (talk) 03:36, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Apologies for the delay in my response. I will look through the peer review sometime next week, and I will do a thorough search through Google Scholar and Google Books to see if I can find anything. I want to give myself enough time to really do a through search in both areas before I give any comments so I can feel 100% confident in my answer. Aoba47 (talk) 17:49, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

--- Hey, sorry to bother you again. As the PR for 1989 has stalled (Nick-D seems to have become disengaged with the article), would you mind skimming through the article for prose concerns? (No hard feelings if you don't, as I plan to take the article to FAC after PR closes anyways). Thanks so much in advance, (talk) 10:42, 22 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Aoba47! I have recently nominated David Bowie's fourth studio album Hunky Dory for FAC. I was wondering if you'd be willing to leave some comments? I'd be happy to do the same if you have one open atm. Hope all is well :-) – zmbro (talk) 18:51, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for your message. I will try my best to comment on your FAC sometime this week. I have actually never listened to Bowie's music so I would be good as a completely unfamiliar reader. If you have the time, I would greatly appreciate any feedback on my my current FAC. I said that I would help with someone's peer review, but when I am through with that, I will get to your FAC. Can't Get You Out of My Head

edit

Hi Aoba! I hope you are doing well. Thanks for the amazing comments on the FAC. I fixed most of them and I will do the rest soon. I was wondering if your time management lets you help me with the Critical reception section. It's true it needs some order organizing, but also it might need some quote trimming and paraphrasing. I would be really grateful if you can help me with that. :) Thanks in advance! — Tom(T2ME) 15:18, 22 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the message. I am certainly trying my best, and I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I am just glad that I can help, particularly as a big fan of Minogue and pop music in general. I think it would be best if you organized the section as you have a greater understanding of the sources than myself. My concern was with the structure. The third paragraph has a clear focus, but the first two seem somewhat random to me and I think a more cohesive narrative would be more beneficial for the reader. This essay would be very helpful. I hope this makes sense since I have a tendency to ramble lol. Aoba47 (talk) 22:14, 22 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I am glad to hear that! I am also giving my best to stay healthy and sane as well :). I am so glad you are a big fan of Minogue! I have always liked her music, but I became a HUGE fan of hers during quarantine (I guess there are some perks coming out of it haha). Anyways, thanks for the essay. I tried something with the first 2 paragraphs. In paragraph number one I ordered it 1) highlight, 2) production 3) vocals. Then, paragraph two is more of retrospective reviews of the song and ending how it helped Minogue get commercial success in the US again. As you said before, number three is already straightforward since it's about The Abbey Road Sessions version. Can you please give it another read and tell me what you think? Thanks a lot! — Tom(T2ME) 14:55, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I am glad that I can help. I will read through the article again tomorrow and add any further notes to the FAC page. Apologies for the delay, but it is already getting late for me. I need to be better with time management lol. I have responded to your responses on the FAC page. HĐ is a great reviewer so I am glad that they are participating as well. I am looking forward to Minogue's upcoming album Disco. I would love to work on a Minogue article and bring it to the FAC space, but as an American, I would not feel comfortable writing in Australian English with all of the different spellings, etc. lol. Aoba47 (talk) 21:52, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • No worries man. Thanks a lot for stepping up and adding comments in first place. They were really helpful. I feel like they aided to improve the article's prose. I am also really excited about Disco! "Say Something" is okay, but I am ready for single #2 and the whole body of work. I am sure she will not disappoint. So excited to see an American loving Kylie haha! PS I am always down for collaborations, so if you want to work together on a Kylie article, feel free to hit me up. Oh, and don't worry about the English, I will try to make it sound more Australian (as a non-native English speaker lol). — Tom(T2ME) 21:58, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Of course. I agree with you about "Say Something". It was very good, but it did not cross over for me. I was surprised the lead single from a disco album was more mid-tempo than I expected lol, but the music video is a lot of fun. A collaboration would be fun, and I should not let different English variations stop me from working on non-American topics. I have a lot of respect for your Wikipedia work. Aoba47 (talk) 23:49, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oh, "Your Disco Needs You" is so good! That French part always puts me on the pedestal haha :). — Tom(T2ME) 21:05, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I hope you're doing well! I was wondering if there was any possibility to provide some comments on the FLC of the article above. I there is not, I understand, but if there is, definitely tell me what I can do for you in return. Greets and have a nice day; Cartoon network freak (talk) 05:25, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Free soaps

edit

I'm not sure if you'll be all that interested since I remember you mentioning you mostly just watched Passions, and that was years ago, but apparently, the official account for Bold & Beautiful has uploaded literally hundreds of episodes on YouTube for free. Holy shit! PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:22, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for letting me know. It would be awesome to get into a different soap opera. I remember someone on YouTube posted all of the Passions episodes, but it was taken down due to copyright issues. If only that show did the same thing lol. How is everything with you? Aoba47 (talk) 20:36, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I just checked, and I think somebody else might have reuploaded the episodes, lol. XD Things are good. Had fun during the holidays; spending time with my parents, relaxing, watching a few TV shows. I also finally finished volume 1 of The Flash and Crisis. Now I just have everything to read from 1987 to 2011. (Yay...) Sadly, my classes start this Monday, and I'm sure the coronavirus outbreak won't help the situation. Anyway, how are you doing? PanagiotisZois (talk) 20:50, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I will have to check again. Maybe they finally stopped taking them down because (at least to the best of my knowledge) the episodes are not available anywhere else lol. I am glad you are doing well, especially given how chaotic this year has been so far. I'd love to get more into comics. I recently found my copies of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, and been re-reading them again lol. I hope classes go well, and that you stay safe. It still blows my mind that classes are restarting, especially when the pandemic is still very much active. Aoba47 (talk) 22:54, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Preparing work

edit

After The King of Fighters XIV was copyedited twice in a row, I nominated it to GA again. In case you wanna exchange reviews, that would be neat. I am also working in the article Judgment (video game) which I think you are familiar a bit. It's protagonist was reviewed by you (Takayuki Yagami). It has yet to be copyedited but could you give a look at least to the plot section? I wonder if the plot can be understood. It's the one that was inspired by Newman's movie The Verdict. Cheers. Also, should the development section be divided furthermore similar to that time you recommended me about Haseo?Tintor2 (talk) 18:47, 15 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

1989 (Taylor Swift album)

edit

Hey, just a quick question. I recently grouped the year-end and decade-end rankings into a table for the article. Though the consensus seems to be against tables within the prose, I think tables better show the reader the album's rankings in an informative way. I want to here your opinions on this, though. Hope to have your consultation, and hope you are having a great week, (talk) 11:40, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Apologies for the delay in my response. I can see how a table would be preferable. I could see how wall of text that would likely have very similar sentence structures would be less appealing to a reader. In my opinion, I think a table should be allowed if all of the entries are referenced.
  • However, a majority of the music articles that I have contributed to are about far more obscure albums and songs that did not get this kind of wide-spread recognition. I do not have a lot of experience in this area. Do you know how FAs on other critically acclaimed albums on this level treat their accolades sections? It does make me think of how a song's or an album's chart performance has to be represented in both a chart and in the prose so maybe this is related somehow? Sorry for not being much help here. Aoba47 (talk) 19:59, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Hi, thanks so much for your swift response. Most FAs that I took reference from do not use tables for this kind of album rankings, but I'm pretty sure tables should be okay. Thanks again and have a great week ahead, (talk) 04:07, 22 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Article recommendations

edit

Hello, Aoba47! I know it has been a while since I have entered your talk page lol but I came to recommend some interesting album articles that you should really do. I encountered a lot of other articles you did in the past about debut albums from talented female artists who disappeared from the scene afterwards and I became really excited about recommending these to you so here is a list of them:

I highly recommend you work on a few of them (or even all) since their backgrounds and stuff are really similar to the other articles that you worked on about debut albums from artists who later either took a long hiatus or completely disappeared from the public after it was released. It's okay if you are not in that type of mood of inspiration or anything where you want to do it right now but I am just recommending them if you feel like doing them later on. Have a wonderful day! x Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 03:52, October 1, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your message. I hope you are having a great week so far! I greatly enjoy working on more obscure music releases as I feel like it is a way to respect singers that were close to major success, but for whatever reason, never truly attained it. I'd love to work on Tamar's debut album sometime in the future, and all of the albums you have listed above sound like very interesting projects.
  • With that being said, I am currently taking a short break from new projects. It will not be a long break at all, but I trying to figure out a way to balance Wikipedia projects with my off-Wiki activities. I used to be extremely active on here, but I will be as active as I was years ago. I keep saying that I need to improve my time management abilities so I am finally taking the time to do so. Thank you again for your message! I hope you are doing well and staying healthy given everything going on in the world right now! Aoba47 (talk) 04:06, 1 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for the response. I honestly feel like all of these are the albums were very unique and I feel like all of those artists deserved their flowers for them. I think improving them and adding a lot more information to them (just like how you do on other articles) is basically a great away to reward those artists especially after almost all of them had their own music careers in the industry get tragically terminated (mostly due to unsuccessful sales, bad record labels, personal situations, etc). Besides Tamar's album, I can see you working great with KeKe, Teedra, Brooke, Teairra and Paula's albums since they have really similar backgrounds and aftermaths to the other album articles you worked on. Thank you! Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 18:53, October 1, 2020 (UTC)
  • I completely agree with you. All of these albums are very different and represents different moments in music history, but they do have a lot in common. I am glad that Tamar had somewhat of a comeback with Love and War, and I hope that things get better with her in the future. She is one of my favorite singers, and it really does sadden me to see everything she is going through right now. I love the phrase, "give them their flowers", and I have honestly not heard it until the last year or two. Aoba47 (talk) 21:02, 1 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I know right. It annoys me so how much how no other Wikipedia user has even tried to improve the articles for ALL of her albums knowing that there is a lot of missing information on them and they deserve more attendance. I, personally think that the articles for her Calling All Lovers and Love and War albums deserve at least 100 footnotes (with all of the heavy reviews they got from online magazines, chart positions, etc). That's the same thing I am trying to do while I am currently working on Keyshia Cole articles and a few other music-related articles by filling them up with as much (reliable and non-spamful) sources that I can find that's why you always can see multiple references in each section of an article I do. Also, I found out about that phrase after seeing a lot of people on Twitter post say that while tweeting about underappreciated/underrated singers. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 00:31, October 1, 2020 (UTC)
  • Apologies for the delay in my response. Best of luck with the Keyshia Cole articles. It is a shame her career fell apart after her first two albums. I still love A Different Me, and I think with better promotion, it could have been used to reinvent Cole and launch her into a larger career. I doubt I would have done better with the marketing though lol. Aoba47 (talk) 04:31, 11 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Emperor's New School

edit

My sources were the second film and show itself. In Kronk's New Groove she was a human agaim but with a cat tail. By the end of that movie she turned herself into a rabbit. Several episodes of the show stated her potions were temporary. Every time Kuzco was turned into something he was human again by the end of the episode. Emperor001 (talk) 23:54, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Emperor001: Thank you for the response. I still do not think it is clear enough. There are many many discrepancies between the show and the two movies, though I do not think the writers were all that focused on continuity. Some New School episodes show the potions as temporary, but you could also go back to the original film where the llama potion was permanent and did not just wear off after a certain time. I think it is best to defer to the citation, specifically since New School does not explicitly say (at least from my memory) how Yzma became a human again. Aoba47 (talk) 00:24, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • You mentioned there was an episode in which Kronk refers to Yzma's feline transformation. If possible, I'd greatly appreciate the episode's name. I can rewatch it and incorporate the information using the episode as a citation. I hope that I do not come across as rude as I appreciate your insight. I just prefer having everything cited. Aoba47 (talk) 00:28, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Season 1, Ep 9 The Emperor's New Pet. Everyone was assigned a cat to care for and Kronk named his Little Yzma because it reminded him of when she was turned into a cat. I admit I may be speculating a bit but given all the potions in the show are temporary it's the best way to reconcile the movie with the show. Maybe in the first movie. I think the show might have indicated that some potions last longer than others (been binging so it's hard to remember what was said in what episode).
  • Couple thoughts. We can either add to the current sentence the comment that Ymza somehow became a human by the second movie and that in the show the potions re usually temporary or we can delete the sentence altogether. She was human again by the second movie plus the franchise doesn't exactly follow logic (part of its humor). Emperor001 (talk) 02:40, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for your response. I have added a part about "The Emperor's New Pet" and Kronk's New Groove, but I believe anything further would slide into speculation (which would count as original research as be strongly discouraged). Since the series does not explicitly mentions that some of Yzma's potions last longer than others, it should not be in the article. Hopefully, my recent addition to the article solve this. Source review

edit
No problem. Everything seems fine. I do owe you a lot for the reviews you made (I kinda started reviewing articles for GA based on my experience with you) so I'll do the source review. Also, I've been watching too many Tarantino movies lately. I had no idea Franco Nero did the original Django decades ago.Tintor2 (talk) 14:03, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Apologies again for the request. I enjoy reading your articles, and I have learned a lot about newer manga and anime so thank you for that. One of these days, I should work on an article in that area. That is really cool about Nero, and it adds an extra layer to his cameo appearance in Django Unchained. What is your favorite Tarantino movie btw? For me, it may beKill Bill: Volume 1 (such a random choice I know lol). I'll be curious on how his final film turns out, and I am still bummed that he's not doing that Star Trek movie. Aoba47 (talk) 18:29, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • And I am glad that I inspired you to review GANs. I still have a lot to learn about the process myself and I am continually trying to grow as a reviewer. I am always glad to hear about editors like you who are engaging in these processes. Aoba47 (talk) 18:37, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Django Unchained sure was different when I explained to it to my father who knew Franco Nero's version instead. Guess I gotta see how different is the 60s version. The only article I nominated to GA is The King of Fighters XIV after having it copyedited twice once by a user who understands the game and another by a typical guild member. In case could review it, I decided to review it since it was the smallest so far (Haseo ended up being ridiculously longer). By the way, about Western movies, there is a new anime that seems inspired a lot by Western movies to the point each episode is named after movies like SE7EN, Reserovir Dogs and next week Mission: Impossible. Anyway, good luck with the FA.Tintor2 (talk) 18:56, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Let me know what you think of the 60s version. I have not seen it either, but I'd be curious to hear your feedback on it. I'll pick up The King of Fighters XIV for a review. I am glad you are still working on fictional character articles. I am sure we have talked about this before, but that is one of my favorite areas of Wikipedia and I really should get back to that one of these days. I'll have to check out Akudama Drive. It's interesting how Japanese media is influenced by Western culture in the same way that Western media is influenced by Japanese culture. Aoba47 (talk) 19:05, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks and a question

edit

Hello Aoba47,

Thank you very much for your help. I expect to be working on Afşin-Elbistan C power station for about a week but after that I hope to get back to Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey. As you mention you are new to the subject as well as the improvements you are making I think it would be useful (if you have time) to let me know which parts of the article are difficult to understand, too technical or badly written. Because I am so familiar with the subject this is hard for me to spot. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:14, 17 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Chidgk1: Take as much time as you need. There is no rush with peer reviews, and I think it is better to have a peer review up for as long as possible so it gets the most exposure for more and more editors to hopefully contribute to it. If you have not already, it might be a good idea to let SandyGeorgia know that you will be working on peer review comments after you do work on a separate article.
  • I am going to print out the article today and do a thorough read-through of it, and either add my comments today or tomorrow (which you can address at any time that is best for you). Apologies for my somewhat scattered comments so far on the peer review as those are just things I noticed from a first read-through.
  • I think we all experience the last part as Wikipedia editors. We are so used to researching a subject that it can be difficult to separate yourself and look at it as an unfamiliar reader. That's where I hope to be the most helpful as I am not familiar with greenhouse gas emissions or Turkey in general (although I really should be). Good luck with your work on the Afşin-Elbistan C power station article. These are incredibly important topics so I have a lot of respect for you for working on them. Chains of Love

edit

I thought I'd mention, since you have an active interest in Chains of Love (TV series), that before I unlinked Anything Goes, I looked up the cited source for more information. It referred to an HBO series by that title, but I couldn't find anything else about it—or even any evidence that such an HBO series existed. Perhaps that mention should be removed? Or maybe you have access to sources that are more helpful than I am... —ShelfSkewed Talk 04:06, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @ShelfSkewed: Thank you for the message. I found a 1982 newspaper article about Anything Goes. I clipped the relevant part so you can view it without a Newspaper.com subscription (here). The Roman citation currently used in the Chains of Love article for that sentence misidentifies it as a HBO program. Anything Goes instead was a show for a now defunct network called Escapade, which apparently has connections with Playboy TV. So Anything Goes definitely existed at one point in time. I could add in the newspaper article to provide some background on the show, but I am uncertain if it would be worth it. What are your thoughts? I'd not be opposed to removing the mention. Aoba47 (talk) 04:24, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't have a strong opinion either way, except that if the mention remains in the article it should have a helpful source. If you wanted to avoid adding text directly to the article, you could use the "quote" parameter in the citation template to put the context in the footnote. But I'm fine with whatever you think is best, since you're more familiar with the subject. Cheers! —ShelfSkewed Talk 04:59, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will make a decision about it later today since it is late where I am right now. I hope you are having a great start to your week. Aoba47 (talk) 05:12, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your GA nomination of This Side of the Moon

edit

The article This Side of the Moon you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:This Side of the Moon for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. The Emperor's New School

edit

A bit off topic from our recent FA reviews, but I noticed that you revamped The Emperor's New School to an incredibly high quality. I'm so impressed, it looks incredible! I can't wait to get stuck into it and have a good read. As a huge Disney fan, you have inspired me to tackle Hannah Montana (not immediately but I've put it on my list!) and try to get it to at least GA with a revamp (ambitious)! Well done! SatDis (talk) 11:09, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I actually just rewrote the lead of Hannah - will be a long process! SatDis (talk) 12:53, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you for your kind words. It really did put me in a good mood, so thank you for that. The Emperor's New Groove is one of my favorite Disney movies so I thought it would be fun to work on the show article. I had a lot of fun doing the research and I am very grateful for all of the help that I had received from different editors during the GAN and FAC processes. Good luck with the Hannah Montana article, and I look forward to reading your work there! That is very ambitious because Hannah Montana was much bigger than The Emperor's New School, but I know that you could do a great job with it. Aoba47 (talk) 19:48, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

PR

edit

Oopsie, sorry I missed Wikipedia:Peer review/Candy (Foxy Brown song)/archive2 when I was adding old PRs to the template. I searched the page for space.FA.space, but I didn't search for FAC. (d'oh, now I know ;)

I was wondering if you want to help me maintain that template, in the hopes that more people will start using PR? What I am doing is checking the page for FAC-related PRs, and adding this note at the top of each one:

  • : NOTE: when you close this peer review, please be sure to remove it from Template:FAC peer review sidebar. If FA regulars have to do all the maintenance, they may stop following that very useful sidebar :) And please add the sidebar to your userpage so you can help out at Peer review! Good luck,

So that hopefully we won't also have to remove them once the PR closes. The idea is that if we get more of the basics addressed up front, FAC should be able to better focus on the substance. Since prose is not my strength, for me that means going through and highlighting all the MOS and source stuff I can, noticing if prose is not FAC ready, and leaving the prose fine tuning to others. And, if I know a PR is right up some editor's alley, remembering to ping them to the PR.

I will get over to your PR once I catch up. I took a day off yesterday to pout because my son's girlfriend's entire family (including her) has COVID (tested on Monday), so although my son has so far tested negative, he will be re-tested tomorrow, and it's unlikely he will escape it. Bummed out, because with her whole family sick, and me not living nearby, don't know who will care for them :( Oh, well, that's my whine for the day ... back to work, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:37, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Apologies for the late response. And no need to apologize. Thank you for all of the work you've done for peer reviews. I am happy to see more people participating in that space, and you have encouraged me to be helpful there. I would be more than happy to help maintain the template, and will look through the sidebar and the list of active peer reviews at least once every few days.
  • I am sorry to hear about your family! I am trying to stay optimistic about the future, but that is tough with all of the COVID news. I am glad that your family had access to testing, and I hope that they have a speedy recovery. And feel free to talk to me about anything. I wish I had some advice to give out, but the best I can do is send positive thoughts your way. It's not really a whine when it's about a serious issue. Back to work for me too. Storm 4

edit

While writing KOFXIV this year, I also tried Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4. After giving it a copyedit and fixing the stuff you mentioned in the XIV review, I wondered if there was something important missing for a GA review? I kinda aimed to make since it's the final game in the series (unless that last sentence in legacy turns true) but sadly fellow editor Flowerpiep (the one who helped me to make other articles GA from the series) is busy. Could you give it a look if you are free? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 20:44, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Tintor2: Thank you for the message. Here are some things that I noticed during a quick read-through:
  • The screenshot in the "Animation" subsection seems unnecessary to me. It is recommended to keep non-free media usage to a minimal except when it illustrates a point that cannot be convey through the prose alone. I just do not see the value of this screenshot.
  • I would avoid having a single-paragraph subsection like the "Animation" subsection. It may be better to somehow incorporate this information in the previous part of the "Development" section instead.
  • Make the "Release and downloadable content" subsection into its own section.
  • This sentence, When they complete the mode, the player can travel across an open world to recreate fights from previous series installments., does not have a citation.
  • I am not sure what you mean by a normal fight in the gameplay screenshot.
  • Link quick time event in the image caption.
  • The infobox includes action as a genre, but that is not supported in the article with a citation.
  • For this part, The narrative follows two characters (Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha), just say, The narrative follows Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. The original wording is unnecessarily wordy.
  • This part, The game ends with a time skip; Naruto is the new Hokage, and Sasuke returns to the village., does not have a citation.
  • Unlink "DLC" in this part, began work on DLC, because that is already linked here, The downloadable content Road to Boruto is set fifteen years.
  • It seems unnecessary to have only two release dates with citations in the infobox image. I'd remove them as they should be supported in the article.
  • I hope these comments are helpful. I do not notice anything obviously wrong or missing from the article so it seems prepared for a GAN. I will be unable to do the review so apologies for that, but good luck with it! Aoba47 (talk) 21:33, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Still, wasn't it that is no need to ref a plot section? About the epilogue, it was a silent scene. None of the adult versions of Naruto and Sasuke talk in the finale. It just show them walking around since the scene is narrated.Tintor2 (talk) 22:03, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • It would probably be better to just remove all of the citations from the plot section as they are not really necessary. I only pointed this out because it was only sentence not cited in the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 subsection. I am sorry that I cannot be more help at the moment. Aoba47 (talk) 22:20, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Thanks still for responding so quickly to any major issue.Tintor2 (talk) 22:22, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Message from Tease Pillar

edit

Heyo, Aoba47! I just wanna congratulate you on your successful contributions to Wikipedia and your wonderful editing skills. I just came to let you know that I am very certain that I have created a well-polished article about an online magazine related to urban contemporary music... it's called Rated R&B. I was really bummed out after the article I created for the HotNewHipHop site (my first ever webzine article) got deleted by an admin due to it's similar style of the previously deleted version of the article so I chose to take inspiration from other articles based on webzines and I finally realized what I was doing wrong.. I was missing the notable information. But anyway I hope you check out the article and tell me what you think. One last thing, I am still continuing my now 5-month long work on the article for Keyshia Cole's The Way It Is album in my sandbox. I hope that I will soon get caught up with my other off-wiki thing so I can finally finish the article successfully. So far, I have added over 89 footnotes which is surprising because I assumed I was gonna only manage to add 64-79 footnotes since the album came out at a time where online magazines and coverage were niche. At this point, the article is expected to have at least 110 footnotes by the time I finish editing. Check out the new info I put up and tell me what you think too, I really need your feedback as I am really excited about the outcome of my editing process. Good day! Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 21:36, October 30, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the congratulations. Great job with the Rated R&B article. You inspire me to work on an article about an online magazine myself for a potential FAC. I do not think there are any featured articles on a digital magazine so that could be cool to try something new. I think we all mess up a lot when we first use Wikipedia so do not be too hard on yourself. A lot of it is trail and error in my opinion and learning from your mistakes.
  • Your draft looks good so far. It should not be too surprising that coverage on this album is quite substantial. Cole's career was quite big at the time, and do not forget that although digital magazines were not around, there are plenty of newspaper articles to look into.
  • Since you are still working on the article, I will wait to provide any major feedback until later. My only piece of advice right is to take care to only use quality publications as your citations. For instance, Pretty And Paid is a self-published blog on WordPress.com, and therefore is not usable on Wikipedia. I have seen discussions that The Grape Juice (which should not be linked to the Wikipedia article on literal grape juice) is not considered a strong, reliable source by Wikipedia standards. So I would recommend while you are building the draft to be selective with the sources you use. I hope this helps, and have a great weekend! Aoba47 (talk) 22:39, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sleigh Ride

edit

Hello Aoba47 and happy holidays. I wanted to ask for your opinion on Sleigh Ride; as you may know, Gwen Stefani recently released a cover of "Sleigh Ride" and I have listed it as a single per a source used on the page (it's one of the ones listed under refs; sorry, I'd include it but I don't remember which one it was off the top of my head). However, I am now learning towards changing it to a promotional single because I cannot find additional coverage claiming that it's a commercial single (radio adds, additional promo stuff, etc.). Still, I am skeptical to change it because of how the press release for single Here This Christmas describes "Sleigh Ride" – it makes it sound like the two are a package deal of some sort (press release)... I don't know. But I wanted to ask for your opinion – would you consider this a promo single or a commercial single, how I currently have it? Your advice would be welcomed. Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 22:32, 17 November 2020 (UTC).Reply

  • @Carbrera: Thank you for the message. I read the BroadwayWorld article differently. I think they are putting them together because they are the only new songs added for the album's 2020 re-release. I do not read the article as supporting some of single package. In fact, BroadwayWorld only mentions "Here This Christmas" as a single and does not refer to "Sleigh Ride" as such. This Vulture source (here) does a similar thing by mentioning "Here This Christmas" as a single, and then only talking about "Sleigh Ride" without calling it a single.
  • I believe the source you are thinking of that mentions "Sleigh Ride" as a single is this one? I am wondering if "Sleigh Ride" would even count as a single at all. This Orange County Register article (here) is another one that mentions "Sleigh Ride" just as a cover while it goes out of its way to say "Here This Christmas" is a single. I would actually argue that this was neither a single or a promotional single, but just a song that she released prior to the album and a tease for the "Here This Christmas" single which was put out ten days later. I am not personally convinced that it would count as a promotional single as I do not see anything support that. This is just my opinion though. Aoba47 (talk) 00:42, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wrath of the Darkhaul King

edit

I'm a little curious as to whether your sudden interest in copyediting the article was sparked by me or not. XD More importantly, I gotta ask, did you like, play that game as a kid and have nostalgia for it? Cause from what I read, it wasn't all that great to begin with, and I don't see why anyone would be so interested in working on it over, lets say, Chaos Bleeds. :P PanagiotisZois (talk) 22:55, 21 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @PanagiotisZois: Your work definitely inspires me. I've not done a lot of work on video game articles so I wanted to start with something smaller before jumping into a bigger, more well-known release so that's what led me to work on Wrath of the Darkhul King. I've never played it so there's no nostalgia here, and I was not particularly impressed with it when I watched a long-play of it on YouTube tbh lol. Chaos Bleeds is definitely better, but I prefer the Xbox game, and when I do become more comfortable with video game articles, I'd love to work on that. I loved the Xbox one, and it may be my favorite television-to-video game adaption. I might also work on all of the Buffy games, but I'm still on the fence about that one lol. Aoba47 (talk) 23:12, 21 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Dude... I meant it as a joke about making a minor edit on the article weeks ago. Shit, thank you. <3 Your work literally inspired me to start working on Wikipedia all those years ago. The effort you put into character articles especially and taking them from stubs to FA is still astounding. You've probably made more good articles each individual year since 2015 than I have made in all of the years since then combined. I'd love to see where else you're gonna work your magic. :D And yeah, I think I understand the challenge with a video game article, especially in "Reception" sections since you also have to take gameplay into consideration and differences between console versions. PanagiotisZois (talk) 01:18, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @PanagiotisZois: I was more so referring to your work on here in general. I was not aware that you had edited the article tbh lol. I'm looking forward to your draft. I've been buying a lot of SuBLime manga over the last few years so it is cool to see it represented on here. Thank you for your kind words! Articles on fictional characters are my favorite to work on and read, and I would love to get back to working on them whenever I have more time to do the research and writing. I have probably spent way way too much time on Wikipedia lol. It is kind of crazy to think that I've been editing on here for over four years (and next January, it would be five). Makes me feel like a fossil lol. Aoba47 (talk) 03:12, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I think I know what you mean. I never would have thought working on Wikipedia articles could be so enjoyable. XD It's so weird how the passage of time change based on whether you're in school or college. 2011 to 2016 seemed like an eternity, yet 2016 to now doesn't seem that long. If anything, it almost feels like yesterday I started working on my first article; which, admitedly, wasn't very good, lol. PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:08, 22 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • It is crazy how time seems to go by more quickly as we grow older. When I was in school or college, it felt like more stuff happened in a year, and now, it seems like a year just zips on by if I'm not paying attention. I did not expect to enjoy working on Wikipedia as much either lol. I started it primarily to work on my research, writing, and revision skills, but I found myself having a lot of fun on here. Looking back on my first Wikipedia articles is quite the trip, but it does make me feel better when I realize how much I have learned and grown since my first edits. Message from Tease Pillar

edit

Hello, Aoba47! I am almost finished working on the article for Keyshia Cole's The Way It Is album on my sandbox and I must say I am far impressed from the amount of information and sources I have managed to throw into it. There is only one more section I am still stuck on with and that is "Music and lyrics". The music and lyrics section though is kind of confusing since I have not really took time to get a basic explanation of it. I actually wanna add an .ogg sample file of Keyshia singing the pre-chorus and the chorus of "Love" since that is the most notable and lyrically memorable song from the album but I am not sure how to do that. What do you think? I also think this could be my breakthrough article and I might finally get my first GA or FA tag since all of the sources came from non-explicit and unbiased websites. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 07:14, November 24, 2020 (UTC)

  • @Tease Pillar: From my experience, audio samples should only be used in an album article if they can be used to represent something about the overall sound (as non-free media usage is only encouraged to illustrate information that cannot be convey in the prose alone). So I would look through the coverage on the album to see if any of those articles talk about "Love" representing an overall style/genre used throughout the album or something about Cole's voice throughout the album. I would imagine that should not be too difficult as "Love" was such a big song that I'd think a majority of critics would be talking about it. A good place to start would be album reviews as most reviewers point out overall trends there. On an unrelated note, I would remove the images from the "Critical reception" section per MOS:SANDWICHING as it is discouraged to have text sandwiched between two images. Best of luck with the project as always!
  • Thank you so much for the advice... I still feel a bit confused on how to do the "music and lyrics" section for the album's article but I will try my best to take inspiration from other artticles. I was also wondering if I should nominate the articles I created like "How Do You Know?" and "Make This Song Cry" (K. Michelle), "I Am Your Woman" (Syleena Johnson) and Dopamine (Mila J) to receive a GA tag since they contain great information and have been supported with reliable sources. I know one or two of them might not really fit GA criteria probably because of them not being that big or containing a few sources from less relevant sites and blogs. Feedback? Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 01:39, November 26, 2020 (UTC)
  • @Tease Pillar: I would encourage you to look at recent featured articles on albums and approaching editors who have recently nominated articles on albums for FACs (and even GANs) to get their advice on how to structure this type of section. I am not really good at saying exactly how to do it so I would not be the best person for this. It would be great if an editor in the future wrote a Wikipedia essay on how to structure an album article for a FAC, but again, I am not the right person for that. Although I have experience in this area, I just do not feel comfortable enough to act as a mentor or guide.
  • Whether or not a song or an album was successful or not does not have any bearing on the GAN process. I have recently worked on an article about a country music album that did not even chart and received little airplay and was still able to get it through a FAC so I would get out of that mindset. Success is not part of the GA criteria, and I am not entirely sure how you reached that conclusion. Whether or not something has received significant coverage to the point it passes the WP:GNG requirements for a separate article does not automatically mean that an album or a song was a success.
  • I would encourage you to only use reliable sources for Wikipedia. I have respect for other sites and blogs, but there is no reason to include them on here. I would advise you to remove any of those before doing a GAN for anything. I would also make sure that all the citations are properly formatted as I have noticed a few errors, like a missing publication date or using two different date formats in the same article.
  • I think each of the articles listed could use further work prior to a GAN. They are all strong starts, but I think they need further development. For instance, when I first looked at the Dopamine article, I noticed that the lead was too short and it had unnecessary citations. Leads for albums typically do not use citations at all as all of the information should be included and sourced in the article itself. I am sorry as I am sure this is not the answer you want to hear. I would encourage to continue doing work on these articles as I am sure they can make very good GAs sometime in the future. This is just my perspective though, and I would encourage you to get second opinions elsewhere. Aoba47 (talk) 02:30, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello, @Aoba47: I came here to not only thank you for your feedback but inform you that I have now finished working on the article The Way It Is by Keyshia Cole. After long overdue, I have now managed to add 107 additional references and larger information to the article. I feel very blessed and excited about the outcome of this as this is my SECOND time rewriting and expanding an album article and I at first thought I was just gonna get in over my head and then pause working on the article indefinitely (especially from how long it took me) for obvious reasons but I now know that I have so much potential working on Wikipedia. I actually plan to continue and work on the entire era of the album by improving the articles for the five singles released alongside it and probably those two songs "You've Changed" and "Love, Thought You Had My Back" since I highly favor them. If this all ends successfully I might even continue on to devote most of my time on Wikipedia to improving Keyshia Cole-related article. I just wanna thank you for the advice and feedback you have given me while working on the article. I also wish you the best of luck with your forthcoming projects and I hope you come back strong with your editing on Wikipedia because you are truly one of the G.O.A.T editors on here. Thank you and please respond. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 08:14, December 2, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the kind words, and awesome work with the The Way It Is article! Congrats on sticking with it because it can be intimidating to work on album that has received this amount of coverage and is so well-known (at least within R&B communities). I am looking forward to your work on more Keyshia Cole articles. It is a shame that her career seems to have fallen off after her third album, but I am glad she is still making music. I hope you are doing well, and having a great week so far! Aoba47 (talk) 17:38, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @Aoba47: Thank you so much for the praise! I am honestly so excited with doing articles related to Keyshia as she is my huge idol and I have been obsessed with her (and Beyoncé) as an artist and a icon nearly my whole life (since I was a toddler). I really do not understand why other Wikipedia users barely even took time in hugely editing articles related to her (especially her reality show and her first three albums) as she has made way more moves than many other R&B artists. I honestly am happy that I can discuss stuff with you as I have been fascinated with your style and work on Wikipedia and I wish you the best and I hope you never quit editing on here. If I am being honest, I am so thankful that you can give me feedback and advice on everything and I really think of you as a mentor and a somewhat-like partner in crime on here and I hope to reach a huge amount of success as you on Wikipedia. Anyways, I was actually thinking of giving a GA nomination for The Way It Is article in at least a few more days after I took a close read at everything on the article and I have now realized that the article is very beautiful and it is kind of at a higher level than most articles about R&B albums with a GA award on Wikipedia if you know what I mean. I will take time to see how other top tier contributors will react and give feedback to the article. I know there are a few errors I should fix and I actually just had to remove some disambiguation links that I mistakenly added to link certain words and stuff. The sources I added overall are really factual and reliable to me and really back up the information on the article. I know there are a few sources linking to sites that are not really that relevant on Wikipedia but some of them execute the information pretty well. Overall, the article seems very well executed and it is nowhere sloppy or messy at all like some of the other articles I made attempts at improving. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 21:41, December 3, 2020 (UTC)
  • Best of luck with the GAN. I am sure if anything, you will receive a lot of helpful feedback on how to improve the article even more. I am always happy to talk to you, and I would much rather be seen as a partner-in-crime as I do not think I have earned the mentor title lol. I think you have put a lot of good work into the article, and it will only be a positive thing to get more editors to look it over. Again, I wish the best of luck with this GAN and your work on Keyshia Cole articles as a whole. Aoba47 (talk) 21:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Aoba47! I just came to ask you to do me a huge favor. I would like for you to review The Way It Is for me as it is now undergoing it's GA nomination though I have now found out that barely any editors on there have even reviewed any of the several album articles listed up there. I really think you should do it for me by just reading and describing how the information on each section looks and recommend me to fix any errors on it. I know you might be busy but you are the only editor left I know can really get the job done on this especially since you have nearly a hundred GA/FA-awarded articles in all on here and I am pretty sure you know by now how all of this works. I know it seems like I am begging but just please try with me on this and I will follow every step and I have even recently fixed most of the errors (grammatical, disambiguation links and irrelevant sources) that I have already found on the article. Just please review it for me and if there are a few problems just explain it to me and get me to fix it. Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 20:55, December 4, 2020 (UTC)

  • It would be better to have a different editor handle the GAN review to get a fresh perspective. It is normal to wait for a GAN review, and your nomination has not even been active for a day yet so be patient. Sorry, but I will not be doing the review for this.
  • I do notice a few issues you can fix while you wait though. "Love" is linked too many times as it should only be done on the first instance. I would actually double-check all of the song links as I notice a few mistakes here, like "I Should Have Cheated" being linked too many times, but not on its first mention in the article. I believe the audio sample is too long (as it has to be less than 10% of the song's length) and it requires a proper fair-use rationale. The "Music and lyrics" section has an instance of sandwiching with the images and audio sample that should be fixed. The image in the "Commercial performance" section should be removed as it does not have a connection with the content. I would encourage you to put in a request at the WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors for a copy-edit.
  • We have talked about this before, but a good article should only use reliable sources. Citations 39, 47, 48, and 50 are not reliable because these videos were not uploaded through an official YouTube channel. WhoSampled.com, That Grape Juice (which is still incorrectly linked to the juice), SteppersUSA.com, Discogs, a random eBay listing, Amazon and CD Universe customer reviews are also not reliable. I also notice several errors with the citation formatting, like avoid putting titles in all caps. Sources are very important to a GAN, and I would recommend really looking at what Wikipedia defines as a reliable source.
  • For the short answer, no I will not review this GAN and I have left you some notes on how to improve the article further while you wait for a reviewer. I think a lot of good work has been put into the article, but I am honestly uncertain if it is ready for a GAN. Aoba47 (talk) 21:46, 4 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Tease Pillar: I hope that I did not come across as too rude or harsh with my comments. I genuinely apologize if that is the case. I have just been stressed about a few off-Wikipedia things. Also, I am sure you've already heard about the Ashanti/Keyshia Cole Verzuz. Should be fun, although I am not sure if I would have paired them together myself. Aoba47 (talk) 02:23, 5 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • No, it's fine. I honestly am thankful that you explained some of that to me and I will try to look over the article. I also removed the SteppersUSA and CD Universe and Amazon customer reviews from the main sections. I will try to look over the WhoSampled links despite that being seen as very reliable and most of it's sample reports were actually accurate and even show detailed proof of the samples. I also do not know about removing the Discogs link that I added for the sampler album as that is the only one I could find. I will also check to see where I put the eBay link at as I had only used that for the release history to prove that it was released in a certain country. I plan to keep the links to That Grape Juice as they have informative and reliable information on there despite most WP editors assuming it is just an explicit blog despite it proving to be somewhat relevant.. let's not mention the amount of followers it has on social media even though that is just for show. Oh and I also removed the GAN that I added to the article as I feel it is not ready for it and there are also way more articles that look just like it and do not have a GA on it so I think it better off fine without that green circle with a plus sign and dark green lines drawing around it that goes on top alongside the article title. At the end of the day, not every article that has over 100 footnotes and large information shall get that type of accolade and at this point I really think it's better if the pros (like you) just do that type of stuff to your articles. Oh and let's not also forget that there are no Brandy Norwood-related articles with a GA or FA award despite most of them looking so great and on a higher level than most R&B/Hip-Hop album articles. Anyways, please wish me the best of luck as I go on to expand/improve more articles based on Keyshia Cole. I hope that no one stops me at trying to give this icon her flowers for her amazing work in the industry and I am also rooting for her to eat Ashanti up in that Verzuz as well. Thank you, xoxo! Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 05:48, December 5, 2020 (UTC)
  • The Verzuz should be fun, and I am sure both will do vey well and be appreciated by fans. I always wish you the best of luck with your projects, and I always appreciate your enthusiasm. I am surprised none of Brandy's articles are GAs. Maybe one of these days, I will work on one of her articles. Aoba47 (talk) 11:11, 5 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you today for A Nice Day for a Posh Wedding, "about a season two episode of the American dramedy Ugly Betty. A loose adaptation of the Colombian telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea, the show is about a young Latina woman who works at the fashion magazine MODE even though she does not fit their expectations of beauty and style. This particular episode is about the wedding of Bradford Meade and Wilhelmina Slater and Ignacio Suarez's United States citizenship ceremony. Victoria Beckham guest-stars as Wilhelmina's maid of honor who steals attention from the wedding, and her Spice Girls nickname (Posh Spice) is referenced in the title. The initial broadcast was viewed by 10.9 million viewers, and the episode was well received by critics. The scenes about Ignacio's citizenship ceremony attracted attention from academic scholars."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:04, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the newspapers provided. They'll definitely prove useful. I also took up your advice and signed up to the Wikipedia Library and applied to have an account at Newspapers.com. Hopefully they accept my submission. BTW, I saw that the papers you provided were all clipped a few hours ago. Was that your doing? PanagiotisZois (talk) 14:52, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • I am glad that I could help. I think I was able to get my Newspapers.com account only after a day or two so hopefully your submission should be accepted relatively quickly. I did clip a majority of the links, except for one which was already clipped by a separate user. Aoba47 (talk) 16:32, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ugh, I got back an answer from the one(s) reviewing my petition. Apparently, they don't have any open spots left. lol PanagiotisZois (talk) 17:06, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • That is strange. I was not aware that was a thing. I could send you screenshots of the Newspapers.com sources through your email if you would like? I wanted to ask first before spamming your email inbox lol. Aoba47 (talk) 18:31, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Hm, maybe that could work. I've already found quite a few sources from 1987, which I'm sure are solely about production; I've hidden them in the film's "Production" section. If you don't mind, yes, screenshots could be very helpful. PanagiotisZois (talk) 19:14, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Just let me know which sources you need, and I will email them to you over the next few days (with all of the information needed to format a full citation, like the page numbers, etc.). Aoba47 (talk) 21:11, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@PanagiotisZois: I will be sending you screenshots from the Newspapers.com sources through your Wikipedia email. Unfortunately, a lot of them are repeats, but I will still send them to you regardless. It is common for newspapers to recirculate the same articles from other sources. For two of the links, I could not find a mention of the film. I have run across this sometimes with Newspapers.com that with more commonly-used words, it sometimes pulls up false-positive (for a lack of a better word). I have labeled each screenshot after the publication it appears in to hopefully help you match them up with the link. I hope this is helpful in some way. On 5 December 2020, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Alison Lurie, which you updated. How are you doing? Because of Akudama Drive I've been watching some old movies since each episode has one of them as titles like Black Rain. It's really amazing how you make so many FAs despite difficulties editors tend to give. I have been editing some characters created by Clamp and recently made Kimihiro Watanuki GA. Now I'm aiming to make Kamui Shirō to also reach the same status but it's being copyedited. If possible, could you also give it a look in regards to any issues Kamui's article might have? I tried tonning down the reception section after the reviewer from Watanuki's article commented I should trim reception. I might also make Subaru Sumeragi too next year but I fear the authors did not reveal too much creation information about him. Anyways, good luck with the FAC and other works.Tintor2 (talk) 23:49, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for the kind words. I try my best, and I am fortunate to have many editors help me along the way. As cheesy as it sounds, none of it would be possible without them. Congrats with your recent GA! I do not notice anything right away when I look at the Subaru article. I would add some ALT text to the images, and I am unsure if the alternate spelling needs to in the lead. I've only taken a year of Japanese, but from what I remember, the ō symbol automatically means ou so it is more of a difference in translation, which I do not think is notable enough to mention in the lead. Otherwise, best of luck with the article, and I enjoy seeing your work. I wouldn't give up completely on the Subaru Sumeragi article, but I understand what you mean. Aoba47 (talk) 23:56, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
So I watched two movies with the same premise. One was Clint Eastwood escaping from a prison on real life events while other it was a bit more campy as it involved Stallone and Arnold in a prison. Also I nominated Kamui Shiro's article. In case you are interested in something we might exchange reviews. Anyway, cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 13:42, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Awesome! I always enjoy going back to watch older movies. I honestly prefer watching them over the newer ones. From the Akudama Drive episode list, I have only seen Se7en, The Shining, and Black Rain (and I am referring to the Japanese movie, not the other two films. I am going to be taking a short break from Wikipedia now that my recent FAC has been promoted to focus on off-Wiki work. I've been getting myself rather overwhelmed on here lately, so I would like to take a breather. Also, I do not have anything up for review at the moment to exchange. Anyway, stay safe and have a great week! Aoba47 (talk) 17:18, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Kinda weird about Black Rain considering the Western film mixes elements from Japanese culture like the dotenbori streets and the yakuza.Tintor2 (talk) 19:55, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I was wondering if Subaru Sumeragi's reception section got too big. You think a subsection like his highly commented LGBT relationship would be more useful to rearrange it?Tintor2 (talk) 15:16, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

You see, I tried this.Tintor2 (talk) 16:11, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @Tintor2: It looks like a good idea to me. I just have two comments about the content though. For this part, Tanaka was initially too critical, remove "too" as the phrase "too critical" is saying in Wikipedia's voice that his first review was wrong, and for this part, a typical use relationship, I am uncertain what you mean by "use relationship". Do you mean uke instead? Aoba47 (talk) 17:32, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
A writer did call Subaru and Seishiro both seme and uke too.Tintor2 (talk) 18:01, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • You have added the sub-section to the article, but you have not addressed either of the points I have raised above. It should be "critical" instead of "too critical", and you still have not explained what a "use relationship" is. Aoba47 (talk) 18:05, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Tanaka said that the first time he read Tokyo Babylon, the romance was basically a simple element to attract more female readers. However, upon his second read he found more tragic and deep.Tintor2 (talk) 18:14, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Thanks.Tintor2 (talk) 18:30, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Re: the subtitle of Kind Words

edit

Hi, you stated that the subtitle of the video game Kind Words was not unnecessary and reverted my edit. However, many WP:RS refer to the game simply as Kind Words. See here and here. Per WP:SUBTITLE, the subtitle of the game does not seem "central" to the work and should therefore be removed due to WP:CONCISE.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 04:44, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @Zxcvbnm: Thank you for the response. I have reverted it back to your edit. I still think it is weird and slightly misleading to not refer to the game by its true name as I would think that if an article was created, there could be a note about how the title was often shortened in publications about it. That's just my opinion though, and Wikipedia policy would outweigh that. There are some sources that use the full name like The Escapist and GamesRadar+, but admittedly, most sources seem to prefer the shorter version. Aoba47 (talk) 04:56, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
