Concerning [1] and [2]. Alansohn, this piece of text should be removed, because it is unsourced. The linked reference text does not contain what I have taken out. Now I want to clarify, why user:wilder thinks this text could be in the article. Please try not to add this piece of text again before you find an appropriate source for it. Reinstating vandalism by accident

Hi! I see you're doing a fantastic job of reverting vandalism, and just wanted to bring to your attention [3] this reversion which appears to have coincided with another user (Captmondo) doing the same thing, with the result that the you undid the good undo and reinstated the vandalism that Captmondo undone. I guess if you'd been moments earlier you'd have got an edit conflict, but as it was Captmondo got in between you spotting the vandalism and undoing it yourself. Can I suggest that you check the history after each undo? Keep up your excellent work, which is really appreciated. Thanks -- Timberframe (talk) 19:26, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I do try my best to check edit histories, scrolling back through prior edits to ensure that I am reverting correctly, and did so for this specific revert in question. I'm not sure what happened here, but it may be the equivalent of a Huggle edit conflict overlaying a simultaneous revert. I do try to be as cautious as possible, but I will be even more cautious in avoiding such possible errors. Alansohn (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:LorettaWeinberg.jpg

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:LorettaWeinberg.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:50, 2 February 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 20:50, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Chromosome 6 Vandalism

I elevated your vandalism warning on the Chromosome 6 (novel) issue, on this talk page, since they simply reverted your changes. I also posted a new level one warning on another IP. I'll try to keep a log of warnings on the talk page of the article. Although it seems obviously the same group of disgruntled students, the IPs are floating. (Incidentally, how do you make the vandalism templates include the name of the article like that?) --Thomas Btalk 03:08, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you check out these edits?

Hi. Could you check out Special:Contributions/144.26.129.2? They have a lot of top edits, and judging by recent edits a lot could be vandalism. I cannot check these myself as I have to leave now. Thanks, Inferno, Lord of Penguins 17:14, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. They all seem to have been addressed. Alansohn (talk) 17:19, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to add more articles saved awards to your page, and to award other people this award too, for saving articles from deletion on Wikipedia. Ikip (talk) 02:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

While I appreciate the award quite sincerely, there are few things that are more satisfying than saving an article with potential by improving and expanding articles. It's a shame that AfD ends up triggering some of these efforts that should have happened before, but I am always so glad to be able to add the reliable and verifiable sources that so often exist but no one bothered to look for. I truly appreciate the recognition, but seeing the improved articles survive AfD is truly the best reward. Thanks again for your kind remarks. Alansohn (talk) 03:19, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree. There are so many rules which are ignored before an editor puts an article up for deletion: User:Ikip/Del#Strong_arguments I was so impressed by your arguments in that AfD, your arguments I will use later myself. Thank you for the inspiration, and see you in the AfD circuit! Ikip (talk) 03:23, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Be careful to check to make sure edits are actually vandalism when you reverse them. --24.119.32.80 (talk) 16:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I had looked at previous edits and saw content being removed and material from other articles being pasted in. While it seems likely in retrospect that these edits were well-intentioned and made in good faith, the lack of any explanation in edit summaries from an editor with only about a dozen previous edits where content appeared to be removed without explanation and where previous edits by this editor to the same article appeared problematic, all came together to appear as vandalism. Please be careful to use clear and concise edit summaries, especially where content is being deleted. Alansohn (talk) 16:12, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Request For Assistance

There is an on-going effort by a User talk:Mashkin to suppress very well sourced historical, geological, and cultural information from the Arabian Peninsula article. It's gotten so bad that its an uphill battle just to include references to material in Encarta, Britannica, the New International Encyclopedia, peer-reviewed Journal articles authored by the Israeli Geological Survey team, links to maps from the US Geological Service/ARAMCO Surveys and so forth - whenever they mention Syria or Palestine.

The Earth Sciences community refer to the whole Arabian subcontinent as the Arabian Peninsula or Arabia, not just the Gulf region. See for example the USGS Map Showing Oil and Gas Fields and Geological Provinces of the Arabian Peninsula.

This morning he posted a request for comments, but only after removing and rewriting most of the material. Needless to say the talk page is already too long to read. harlan (talk) 15:06, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Engraved (band)

A tag has been placed on Engraved (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. TNX-Man 18:44, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Please ignore the above. I noticed that you split this article off from another page and have removed the speedy tag. Best, TNX-Man 18:47, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Hmm? It looks like clear speedy material. Friday (talk) 18:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
It did look that way, but I saw that Alansohn is a member of the Article Rescue Squad, and thus removed the tag to give him and the editor a chance to improve and/or userfy the material. I guess it's kinda moot now, but let me know if I can do anything to help. Best, TNX-Man 18:53, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Help with Frank Prewitt

Alansohn, I was curious if you had any guidance for me in regards to Frank Prewitt's page. Another editor continues to play with the wording and inserting vernacular and political hear-say, thus making it one sided in addition to writing unique messages on my talk page. Sorry about that. I had inadvertently made an error in the title of the page. The actual title of the book is: Hardcore California: A History of Punk and New Wave NOT Hardcore California: The History of Punk and New Wave. When I tried to correct the title it didn't work, so I deleted the article and started another with the correct title. Obviously this isn't the way to do it. So please explain.

Hello Kitty.

I redid the edit to Hello Kitty that you undid, because I feel it is *very* relevant. The author of Miffy feels that Hello Kitty is a copy (i.e. Rip-Off) of Miffy and he does have a point. See the quote on this subject on the Miffy page. I phrased this politely (I said "Miffy looks very similar and predates Hello Kitty") so as not to offend the makers of Hello Kitty who might have Japanese copyright law on their side?

The changes you made to the Algonquin article was not a change from an editor that was a vandal. I am wolastoqiyik, and a member of this language branch. The scope of this article in places was narrow, and failed to represent Maliseet as Algonquin people in places, and this was found after reviewing what defined a Metis-- of which was the term Algonquin, so if another definition is to be derived from this one, then this one should reflect an accurate portrayal of what is and what is not Algonquin. Anishnabek people are one of the many people are either the original or Algonquin derivative speakers according to language history. It was for this reason that I changed the article. I also added information that was more representative of the current defintion of the Algonquin people such as added Indigenous peoples and a reference to an article for the same. This was not vandalism, it was a contribution, and what you are doing is wasting time that was spent on something that was constructive by deleting it, at least from my perspective. If you have anything constructive to share please do so. thank you WM324AHI (talk) 04:52, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Why are you insisting on putting an inapropriate infobox - a broken one at that - on this article? It isn't manga, and it is explicitly NOT covered by WP:ANIME. I've explained my edits, if you'll look at the edit history. The only one who hasn't is YOU, not that that stopped you from issuing a warning that MY "unexplained edits" could get me blocked. 159.182.1.4 (talk) 15:45, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

The money shall be given to you in the temple. First the worshippers will eat it, then vomit (barf) it out again and it shall be given to you. Notes though are buried in an ostrich egg and the worshippers must eat the egg, then the note can be passed on to you.

Serious allegations with little or no sourcing.

Hello, I'm not sure what should be done. An editor has been adding basically unsourced data that I have not been able to corroborate here. This person claims all sorts of proof on their talk page but doesn't produce it. I don't know what to do, but it does seem to me that the source that he mentions in the talk page doesn't do the trick since I could find nothing there. What should be done? Regarding consensus

Thank you for your comments. I am new to the Wikipedia editing world and so apologize for any clumsiness or break from protocol. While I am trying to understand your points regarding consensus of my changes, if one were to investigate the source cited in the matte, they would see that none of the removed place names are mentioned. And each of those pages has no detail other than claiming that the places exist. Further more, the pages for each of those said removed places are citing a Google Map as their key source, and upon viewing the source map the place names do not even appear. It seems to me that these pages themselves are the ones lacking proper consensus, and that they exist in of itself is not rationale to allow for poorly sourced, misunderstood, and generally bad information to proliferate in otherwise valuable & earnest articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spendthrift (talkcontribs) 02:49, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

  • Tony1, as a radical anarcho-syndicalist, I truly resent being called a fascist. I tried being a Luddite, but I couldn't figure out where exactly to stick my wooden shoes to gum up Wikiedpia.
I recognize that we can have differences of opinion on the flag issue and other critical matters, but we're all here to build an encyclopedia. Or so the members of my anarcho-syndicalist faction tell me. Alansohn (talk) 17:00, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

Camden "Unsourced Opinion"

Sorry that you think things you don't know are opinion but what I wrote was fact, and I'm putting it back in. Anybody who knows A) The Philadelphia area B) Basketball or C) Sports in general knows that Camden is right up there both historically and currently with places like Baltimore and Detroit as a hotbed of basketball. That is indisputable fact, and anybody who writes about basketball with even the slightest bit of a clue knows this.

You have a nice day now. You're welcome for the free lesson. 24rhhtr7 (talk) 19:20, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

24rhhtr7, you've demonstrated the flaw here. Wikipedia is predicated on the presence of reliable and verifiable sources to confirm that the information belongs here. It's not my job to refute the information; it's your job to provide the reliable and verifiable sources that show it belongs in the article. In the absence of these required sources, it will be removed. Alansohn (talk) 01:39, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Coordinator elections: The second tranche of Guild coordinators for 2016, who will serve a six-month term until 23:59 UTC on 31 December, have been elected. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; self-nominations are welcome and encouraged.

July Drive: Our month-long July Copy Editing Backlog Elimination Drive is now underway. Our aim is to remove articles tagged for copy-edit in April, May and June 2015, and to complete all requests on the GOCE Requests page from June 2016. The drive ends at 23:59 on 31 July 2016 (UTC).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

The Nets

Hello. Seeing as you live in New Jersey, I do not know how much you follow sports, but I just have to ask. Are you bitter about the Nets leaving New Jersey for Brooklyn in 2012?—Bde1982 17:32, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Bde1982, I'm actually more resentful of the Nets leaving both Teaneck, New Jersey and Uniondale, New York. What are you referring to? Alansohn (talk) 17:35, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
I am referring to the Nets leaving New Jersey entirely. The Nets played their final two seasons at Prudential Center in Newark before they relocated to Brooklyn in 2012. If I was a Nets fan, I would be angry about the team leaving New Jersey.—Bde1982 18:22, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
Also, during their time as the New Jersey Nets, they had a better color scheme: red, white and blue. I can do more with those colors than I can with just black and white.—Bde1982 11:34, 6 September 2016 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors September 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the September 2016 GOCE newsletter.

>>> Sign up for the September Drive, already in progress! <<<

July Drive: The July drive was a roaring success. We set out to remove April, May, and June 2015 from our backlog (our 149 oldest articles), and by 23 July, we were done with those months. We added July 2015 (66 articles) and copy-edited 37 of those. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from June 2016. Well done! Overall, we recorded copy edits to 240 articles by 20 editors, reducing our total backlog to 13 months and 1,656 articles, the second-lowest month-end total ever.

August Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 21 through 27 August; the theme was sports-related articles in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Of the eight editors who signed up, five editors removed 11 articles from the backlog. A quiet blitz – everyone must be on vacation. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, all!

We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time.

The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring.

Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges.

Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

better coverage of Union County Parks and nature

Hi Alan- any thoughts on best way to corral info on Union County Parks and historic sites? Unlike, say, Essex and Morris, it is very hard to find all such info on here. There is an organization called Friends of Rahway River Parkway that is working to gather information for public- is wikipedia useful for that? Oldyorkey (talk) 13:42, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Cranford, New Jersey

You are rather critical of the removal at Cranford, New Jersey as block evasion. In fact Oldyorke was blocked for repeated copyright violations (see: User talk:Oldyorke) but User:Oldyorkey continued with that. And then there was Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Oldyorke confirming the sock and the block evasion. The Banner talk 17:24, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

The Banner, Oldyorke / Oldyorkey is an editor who is trying to improve articles who doesn't understand copyright policy. Anal retentive admins abusing their authority to impose blocks certainly doesn't solve a problem; it just gets rid of a potentially productive editor. The failure of multiple admins to understand this is a big part of Wikipedia's failure to bring in new editors. Alansohn (talk) 17:28, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Nasty remarks towards admins and towards me do not show a positive attitude in the best interest of the encyclopaedia, but a battleground mentality. Protecting guys with copyvio is a dangerous hobby. The Banner talk 20:34, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
The Banner, again, and as you seem to refuse to understand, Oldyorke / Oldyorkey is an editor who is trying to improve articles who doesn't understand copyright policy. It is anal retentive rule pushers who don't understand or pay attention to circumstances who are destroying Wikipedia. You have made more than 60,000 edits and have been unable and unwilling to comply with Wikipedia policy, but you've decided that an editor with 250-300 total edits, with no understanding of Wikipedia policy, is a puppetmaster whose sourced edits needed to be destroyed. If you don't like the characterization of your disruption, I really don't care. Alansohn (talk) 20:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
You do not seem to understand that fiddling around and protecting copyvio can have serious consequences for your editing rights. And a WP:BATTLEFIELD-mentality is certainly not helpful. To make is clear: this is a friendly warning. The Banner talk 20:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
The Banner, cut out the smarmy patronizing attitude. While I've been trying to correct these edits and educate the editor in proper Wikipedia policy, reaching out to the editor's talk page to provide helpful information, you've created a battleground where you're the judge, jury and executioner. If you are unable to help, find another hobby. Alansohn (talk) 20:49, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Sleep well, mr. Alansohn, hope you have soon another hobby after being blocked. You are working yourself to the exit. Sorry to see that happen. The Banner talk 21:00, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Mr. The Banner, when we rid of ourselves of editors seeking to destroy this encyclopedia, we might one day build one. It's time for you to get lost; maybe some editor will cower from your bullshit threats. Alansohn (talk) 21:04, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

DYK for Aubrey Lewis (athlete)

On 10 December 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Aubrey Lewis (athlete), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after becoming the first African-American to captain an athletic team at Notre Dame, Aubrey Lewis joined the first class to include blacks at the FBI Academy? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Aubrey Lewis (athlete). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Aubrey Lewis (athlete)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your false positive report

Why did you report http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults/ ?—cyberpowerMerry Christmas:Unknown 01:07, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

The link I typed was this one, which I tested and then pasted directly into the form, just as I did onto this page. I have dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of false reports from IAB, cleaning up the little messes one after the other. Some of them are legitimate, but a disturbingly high number are working links. I often look at the dozens of articles that need cleanup related to IAB and say that I should just revert them all as useless busy work. Now I'm the one getting complaints that the link I had just tested didn't work. Please create a link that allows the false positive reports to be made directly from the affected article, so that I and other editors don;t have to do your work for you. Alansohn (talk) 03:40, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
You submitted two links. One is actually dead, which I mentioned above, and the other got reset in the DB. As for on the spot reporting, it's coming, but still needs time. It requires the user to be logged on to the interface so it's a bit tricky to implement. I'm open to ideas on how the on the spot link should work.—cyberpowerMerry Christmas:Unknown 04:03, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
I submitted two different links, both of which are working. If you tell me that http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2013/2013%20General%20Summary.pdf is dead, there is something seriously screwed up with your system. Alansohn (talk) 04:05, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Cyberpower678, for example, I just typed in http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2014/2014%20General%20Summary.pdf, which your link truncates to http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults/. The link in the article works, as does the link I type; your truncated link doesn't work. Same with http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2012/2012%20General%20Election%20Summary.pdf, which also works. Alansohn (talk) 04:10, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Okay so there's a bug with IABot, that seems to be truncating the URL for some reason. I have filters and validations in place to help clean the URL up and filter out invalid characters. It might be catching something it shouldn't. This let's the user conveniently, sloppily copy and paste an entire URL with bits and pieces of the surrounding stuff into the form and it extracts the URL.—cyberpowerMerry Christmas:Unknown 04:22, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Cyberpower678, I looked at the link I typed in and the one you reported back. It looks like the link http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2014/2014%20General%20Summary.pdf includes a slash-slash where the link gets truncated. Cold that be the problem? Alansohn (talk) 04:26, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
It probably it is, and it should be a straightforward fix since it uses Regex to validate. I saw the other URL you just reported, and it looks like the bot is blacklisted from that site. Whenever a URL with the response "NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER" gets reported, it likely means it's because Labs has been blacklisted for that site. I'm working on developing workarounds for that. The bot's newest version 1.3 is going to be a big release.—cyberpowerMerry Christmas:Unknown 04:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017

On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):

  • First place – $200
  • Second & Third place – $50 each
  • Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.

Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.

After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.

The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).

St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Englewood, New Jersey)

Nice add to this article. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:55, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Beyond My Ken, and a nice article creation on your part. Just fortunate that I'm familiar with the historic sources available on this side of the Hudson. Alansohn (talk) 00:10, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I just happened to be in that area some months ago and took pictures of the church. When I saw it was on the NRHP but didn't have an article, I thought, "Why not?". Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:11, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

May I impose on our long-standing - albeit acrimonious -- relationship to ask you a question? (If not, please feer free to ignore it.) What is the explanation for the many multiple Bergen County NRHP listings being related to the Ackerman, Ackerson/Eckerson, Banta, Berdan, Blackledge, Blanch, Blauvelt, Bogert, Brinkerhoff, Cadmus, Cooper, Debaun, Demarest, Durie, Haring, Huyler, Hopper, Lydecker, Terhune, Van Houten, Van Winkle, Vandelinda, Vanderbeck, Westervelt, Wortendyke and Zabriske families. It almost seems like at some point they were the only residents of the county, presumably on large farms. Is that the case, to your knowledge? Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:07, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

  • While Bergen County is the state's most-populous county today, with 900,000 residents, there were only 12,000 residents back at the first U.S. census in 1790. The early Dutch and English settlers in northeastern New Jersey prospered and their families grew with them. You see many of these same names not only on houses, but even on street signs and in names of politicians. Alansohn (talk) 18:23, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Merry, merry!

Monsignor Farrell High School

This material has been repeatedly removed from this article and the article has in the past been protected because of the repeated addition of this material. It simply does not meet the requirements for listing in a notable alumni section. A notable group or TV show is not an alumnus. The explanation for rejecting this material has been explained on the article's talk page. Your justification of WP:PRESERVE has absolutely no validity. Meters (talk) 22:03, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Meters, WP:PRESERVE is policy. Your claim that groups can;t be listed is just that; a claim. I've dealt with that claim on the talk page and the onus is on you to demonstrate that encyclopedic content about a group of alumni should be removed simply because you feel it shouldn't be in the article. Alansohn (talk) 04:27, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Replied on the article's talk page. A group does not meet the inclusion criterion of being an alumnus. There is no way to fix that, so WP:PRESERVE is not applicable. Meters (talk) 05:20, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
