I don't think we can treat Twitter as a reliable source. Do you have any alternative sources? An official press release maybe or perhaps some media coverage? --DanielRigal (talk) 16:10, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
The tweets do not support that she'll be supporting the Smoke and Mirrors Tour for those dates. We can draw from the Imagine Dragons tweet that she's on the tour, but it's unclear for how long. Tweets are self-published sources—as are press releases. —C.Fred (talk)

Associated acts

What constitutes an associated act? I thought it was used for individuals who had been involved with several bands or for bands that have key members in common. Does opening for a band really qualify? If so Dumpy's Rusty Nuts would have a list of associated acts 10 miles long. I can't help thinking that what we have here is a minimally notable subject where some editors are desperately trying to inherit some notability from minor connections to more notable acts. --DanielRigal (talk) 22:12, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

The following should come at the start of her "Career" section because it more accurately describes how here career began. She even verified this in an interview at the following link: http://nymag.com/thecut/2015/04/halseys-dream-pop-and-instagram-obsessions.html

Please add: Halsey began her career by posting cover songs on You Tube under her own name where she established a sizable online following. She had over 50,000 Twitter followers when she posted her song Ghost on Soundcloud under the moniker Halsey, which helped lead to her signing to Astralwerks. Halsey has since removed the videos from that You Tube account, but a few of them can still be found online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dpwRW4dWFM https://www.youtube.com/user/ashcolette

Yes. That is very interesting. It makes me wonder how much we are being manipulated here. It seems that Halsey is only really famous within a bubble ecosystem controlled by her promoters at Apple. She seems to be being anointed as a pop star from above, perhaps forgetting the etymology of the word "pop", derived from "popular", i.e. of the people. Of course, that's what the music industry has always done with varying degrees of duplicity and success, and I am not suggesting that we delete the article on The Monkees, but do I question whether we should not be regarding all Apple derived sources, including their charts, as primary sources for this article. Coupled with the past history of COI editing I can't help feeling vaguely uneasy about this article. The whole thing feels slighty unreal. Not fake enough to delete but not quite real enough to take at face value. Incorporating elements of that link you provide in the article could certainly help to document the situation better. --DanielRigal (talk) 19:17, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Halsey (singer)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Halsey (singer)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:30, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Tri-bi issue

It appears that the artist has taken issue with the quote as it appeared in the New York Times. On the 23rd she tweeted 'I don't call myself "tri-bi" that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Can we stop running that misquote please". Still, no source that contradicts it and as recent as a 2015 DIY interview it was again mentioned. Is this a BLP issue? Should it be removed? Halsey hates being called "tri-bi" it is a derogatory term and it is incredibly offensive, not only to her but the LGBTQ community

JillianKara (talk) 23:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Could you point to a source that indicates that it is an offensive term please? The New York Times appeared happy to print it. Karst (talk) 00:06, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
Further, the New York Times attributes the usage of the term to her. If she's stopped using the term in the last four months, we need to find a reliable source that says as much. —C.Fred (talk) 01:21, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Singer-songwriter?

Singer-songwriter is associated with the acoustic-folk genre of music. This article describes her as alternative pop. Do we have a source that says she also does acoustic-folk, or do we need to describe her as a singer and songwriter but not a singer-songwriter? —C.Fred (talk) 20:37, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

She is a singer and songwriter, not a singer-songwriter. The editor who added that probably just doesn't know the definition. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 21:44, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Frangipane/Halsey confusion

I distinctly remember this article using "Frangipane" to refer to Halsey before she started calling herself Halsey. Why was that changed? Now the article only says Halsey to refer to her, and I think it made more sense to call her Frangipane because that's who she was before she started calling herself Halsey, she only started calling herself Halsey after she started pursuing a public image. So, should we change it back to having Frangipane as the pre-fame way to refer to her? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joey kl22 (talkcontribs) 07:58, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

She can be considered as indie pop, but what sources do we have to back up the listed genres that were on here before? Because other than Apple Music and Halsey herself I can't find anything. Sawhitney36 (talk) 16:32, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Read Halsey (singer)#Music style and themes. For the Apple Music thing, it never said Halsey was alternative. It said two of her albums and one of her songs was alternative, which isn't the same thing. I can't find it on a Wikipedia page, but I was told once that using sources like Amazon Music and Spotify (or Apple Music) for genres is not good. Billiekhalidfan (talk) 13:34, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
I got this wrong, I didn't see the music style and themes section and I assume other people didn't because the part above about Halsey's distinctive singing voice wasn't sourced with the same source, it looked like a biased opinion, the source should have been added to both, considering the distinctive part appears first. Guinness World Record

In the lead the "a Guinness World Record," needs to be moved to the end of the lead as an after-thought or deleted from the lead completely, it is not a nomination or an award as such as recognised for Halsey's industry, Guinness World Records adding some categories and using it to seek extra attention aside, this is irrelevant, thought, comments, queries. 121.99.108.78 (talk) 22:09, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

  • Oppose- This is nonsensical and the singer may be the only unambiguous use of "Halsey" as a single word, but Halsey (surname) and its various associated articles are arguably more significant, and certainly more encyclopedic, meanings of the term. Sunrise In Brooklyn 13:47, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Support I honestly didn't expect to -- my standard for "last names redirect to a person" is pretty high. But this isn't exactly that, it's more a musical artist who goes solely by mononym. And in this case, among the titles on this disambiguation page, reader interest is obvious, with the singer getting a stunning 300 times the daily views of the next closest subject. And among those with the surname, the discrepancy is equally clear -- the singer gets on average close to 8000 views per day, while the next closest subject, the actor Brett Halsey, gets around 100 per day. There are certainly notable people with this surname, but no one near significant enough to go against the incredibly overwhelming intention of readers. And for those seeking to reach one of these subjects with the surname, we should include a hatnote to both the surname and general dab page, which would mean no more clicks, while aiding the clear majority of our readers searching the subject.--Yaksar (let's chat) 14:37, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Their pronouns are They/Them not She/Her, change the pronouns to They/Them 2A00:23C7:7C27:E601:C070:4215:A53A:38B2 (talk) 18:12, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Pronoun usage

The subject recently was angered by an article that exclusively used she/her pronouns. Meanwhile, while announcing new pronouns a few months ago: "I am happy with either pronouns" but "The inclusion of 'they' in addition to 'she' feels most authentic to me." [emphasis mine] Subject seems to prefer she/they to be used interchangeably. I don't know what the Wikipedia style guides say about this. Thought I would open this up for discussion. Chase (talk | contributions) 15:12, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

I don't think we have any guideline or policy to either accept or reject using mixed pronouns when that is somebody's expressed preference, although I could be wrong. In any case, it would be an extra burden for the editors to have mixed pronouns, so I would prefer we stick to a single pronoun. Vpab15 (talk) 08:27, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
  • I feel like the reason why Halsey was angered was because the article made it a point about talking about the pronouns she uses, and then going on to only use one of two sets, which isn't the case here. We include a footnote right after the first pronoun of the article acknowledging the two sets of pronouns, and then we provide a reason as to why we will only be using one set for the entire article. Then, we only talk about their preferred pronouns once, in the Personal life section. I do think that the footnote makes a valid point about consistency, and that switching between two sets of pronouns throughout the entire article could get confusing to both the readers and the editors. It would also be harder for the editors to edit, as they would have to think about which pronouns to use where, if one set is being used more than the other, etc. I think that it would be a good idea to stick with one set, but I do not have a preference as to which of the two sets we use. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 12:51, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Halsey has specified their preference. We can't speculate on why we feel she might have done that in one instance and decide it doesn't apply elsewhere.'For consistency' is still disrespectful of their identity, I do not consider a footnote attempting to justify the reasoning adequate or appropriate, Making excuses for not respecting someone's pronouns because it's easier is still not respecting their pronouns. 49.199.204.152 (talk) 03:16, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
    • I agree with you when you say that Halsey has specified her preference, and I agree that we cannot speculate, because we largely do not have the option of contacting them to get their opinion on this. However (and I do not mean to be disrespectful in any way, shape or form), we have to keep in mind that this is a professional encyclopedia, and consistency is key. That is why we have a Manual of Style. In order for us to make sure that we include "they" in addition to "she" equally (as the subject has specified is her preference), we would need to estimate a ballpark amount of pronouns we use (when referring to Halsey as a person), and then replace around half of the "she/her"s with "they/them"s. And then do that to all of the other articles that mention Halsey (albums, songs, etc). And then periodically check up on each article to make sure one pronoun set is not being used more than the other. I'm not saying it's impossible, and I would be up for the challenge, but I (as a person who also uses a dual pronoun set) do think there is an easier alternative that is not necessarily being disrespectful to someone's identity. As well, I'm not trying to deflect in any way, but I noticed that you used strictly they/them pronouns in your message, which someone could perceive as hypocritical, especially when you're talking about respecting someone's identity and their usage of she/they pronouns equally and interchangeably. Thanks! D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 03:35, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
      • one she, two theirs. I was repeating myself and cut a swathe before posting, but it's still there. The last sentence is not referring to Halsey specifically. It's noted above that there isn't currently a style guide for this situation, so if one were going to be implemented I'd like to see it prioritise someone's preference, where known or reasonable to infer. There is a lot of confusion around multiple pronouns use and no way to apply a universal standard (as you're doubtless aware, stated for other contributors' benefit). Also a dual pronoun user. 49.199.204.152 (talk) 04:04, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
        • Sorry, I didn't notice that. Consider my comment struck through. I agree completely with your comment. For example, you can use either set of pronouns (he/him or they/them) when referring to me, and I won't mind. But, for Halsey, she likes the inclusion of they/them in addition to she/her, and they prefer to have them used interchangeably. But, the dictionary definition is whatever pronoun set you put first is the one you prefer, but you don't mind the other set being used. So, it would be very confusing to create a guideline for this, as you expressed. Thanks! D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 14:38, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Halsey's broken metatarsal bones

Am I only allowed to add factual information about their broken toe if it's from the media? I added a lot of information and added temporary references to be replaced by articles. All of it was taken out because Wikipedia doesn't do social media sources (even temporary ones to be replaced), I guess even if it holds evidence of it being true. I sort of understand why but I feel like if you can see from the reference that this happened it shouldn't be an issue. News may not report everything which means Wikipedia could be missing information because of the rules? There are a lot of rules and I may have missed/misinterpreted some so I think I'll just edit Halsey's Fandom Wiki, cause I'd cause a lot of disruption here.

Astonishingly, it is not exactly about you personally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with a community of editors. This is a biographical entry about a living person. See WP:BLP and WP:NOT. Rainbow-five (talk) 19:03, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
I have only just seen this response because I forgot about making it. I appreciate that you responded with two pages for me to look at. I'm also very confused about "Astonishingly, it is not exactly about you personally", because I never said or implied that this was about me. Wikipedia can be a very confusing place and I do expect some people to have compassion and understanding and to address an issue without snark unless someone is actively attacking that person. I read WP:BLP for Self-published sources and was confused because there's nothing there that makes me understand why what I added was removed. I then read WP:Verifiability for Self-published sources and found nothing there (unless I am really missing something). I read WP:NOT and still don't understand how what I added was removed. Then I checked the reason for a removal and the person who removed it stated "WP:RSPTWITTER, WP:GUNREL". I checked both links and understand it was something related to using their social media as a source, there are rules around it, times when you can and can't use social media and that is the part that is confusing for me. I didn't (and still don't) understand why using Halsey's social media that is verified and doesn't provide speculation, gossip or unreliable unverified information is considered grounds for removal. Using Halsey's social media was actually temporary and to be replaced with verified news articles as I did note in an edit. Also to note I was not trying to be snarky in my original comment of editing Halsey's Fandom Wiki, I was expressing that rules wise, it's harder to edit here. TLDR: I read the suggested rules (WP:BLP, WP:NOT, WP:RSPTWITTER, WP:GUNREL) and I don't entirely understand why using Halsey's social media (sometimes you can use it, sometimes you can't?) in the way I did fits the ground for removal, I may just not be understanding it. I did expect compassion in the response, and was not trying to be snarky in the last line of my original comment, just expressing that it's hard to edit here with confusing rules. 'Halsey' named after the L train in Brooklyn

Under Notes, it says "There are, in fact, two Halsey Street stations in Brooklyn: one station is on the L train, and the other is on the J train. In a Rolling Stone interview, Halsey did not clarify which station she based her name on", the Rolling Stone interview was in 2016. In an interview with Vice in 2014 (https://www.vice.com/en/article/rkqqqn/halsey-interview-2014-57a206a6d94919df6669135e), in the first paragraph it states "Frangipane named her alter-ego after a subway stop, after frequent journeys on Brooklyn’s L-train", I'm wondering if this is good enough to confirm that it's the L train?

An insider article analysing Halsey's book of poems also states "This may reference Halsey's ex-boyfriend... he built an actual fountain named "hopeless fountain kingdom" off of the L train's Halsey street stop in Brooklyn."
