  • Comment: I can't find any sources here that mention "7th Marine Brigade" perhaps the article's title needs to be changed to "Jiaolong Commandos' per common name? Theroadislong (talk) 16:48, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: I find it strange that an article about a military unit nowhere in the text mentions what country it belongs to. ColinFine (talk) 11:48, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

The 7th Marine Brigade, commonly known as the "Jiaolong Commandos" is a special operations unit in the People's Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps. It is based in Sanya.[1][2][3][4]

History

edit

The unit was founded as the Naval Special Operations Battalion.[5][4] in 2002[6]

On 26th of December 2008, 70 soldiers from the unit were deployed to Somalia[7], where it conducted anti-piracy operations. On the 5th of May 2017, 3 pirates were captured by soldiers from the 7th Marine Brigade and handed over to Somali police.[8][9][10]

In 2015, it helped in evacuation efforts from Aden during the Yemeni Civil War.[11][12][13]

Missions

edit

The 7th Marine Brigade is used for roles such as VBSS[6], anti-piracy, air assault[14][6], direct action, combat diving[15][2][3], sabotage[6] and amphibious reconnaissance[16][6].

Recruitment

edit

According to a commander, the unit has a 88.8% washout rate.[12]

edit

Operation Red Sea (2018) is loosely based off the unit's involvement in the evacuation of Chinese and foreign nationals in the Yemeni Civil War and also depicts the unit.[1][11]
