Historic Church in Canton Bern, Switzerland

edit

I am looking for articles in English on an historic church in Canton Bern, Thun, Switzerland. It is called Wurzbrunnen Church, and is just north of the village of Rothenbach, Switzerland. It is shown on the map of Switzerland (Hallwag International, 2000) and when we visited this area in October 2000, we were told that an historic movie was being made about it, and that there are many articles written about it.

Thank you. Martha Stover, marty910@yahoo.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.166.212.250 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 5 February 2005(UTC).

Enargeia (philosophy)

edit

should we read "energeia" instead? if so, it's another way of requesting an entry on Potential and actual in Aristotle (energeia=actuality); otherwise I can't see what it should mean (enargeia = Greek for "clarity, intelligible style, self-evidency")... --zuben

Mount Washington x 26? (geography)

edit

I noticed an addition of a second Mount Washington entry and thought I'd better advise of a third I know of, Mount Washington on Vancouver Island, British Columbia in Canada - a major ski area no less, and also one of the highest-precipitation spots on the Northwest Coast. There are, of course, lots of Mount Washingtons in the US...I just consult www.topozone.com - there are 26. What are the parameters to determine when geographic entries are worth entering or not? i.e. in cases like this where there are so many of the same kind of item with the same name. One big disambiguation page with them all listed, ultimately? Or some kind of limit based on significance of height or ????

Arachnobutyrophobia previously had this note: "fear of peanut butter, really." Although this is not attributed it appears on a few different web pages, and appears to contradict some other web pages. I have searched numerous scholarly databases, Psycinfo, Pubmed, Meditext, etc., and psychological encyclopedias/dictionaries. and found no reference to it anywhere. Suggest it be deleted. Xenobea 11:09, 29 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I have done a google search on "Edifice Complex" and it appears to be used perhaps originally as a play on words, but now has its own meaning as a ruler making buildings to glorify him or herself. It is covered in a book called "The Edifice Complex" by Deyan Sudic, which refers to Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Tony Blair, etc. Consequently am going to remove the comment and think about making a page. Slovakland

edit

There is a request under geographical places for Austria-Hungary - Slovakland.

This never existed as such as a province. The area of modern-day Slovakia was treated as part of Hungary proper, unlike Croatia-Slavonia for example which had a recognised status within the Hungarian half of the empire.

Therefore suggest delete, and redirect to 'Austria-Hungary - The Lands of Empire - Governmental Structure' or simply to 'Slovakia - History'. Jameswilson 02:46, 28 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Please note that Slovakland was the referance used in the late 19th and early 20th century by US Immigration at Ellis Island as well as US Census takers to refer to those originating from a specific part of Europe who may or may not have been of Slovak ethnic decent. Specifically, census forms of the day asked for ethnicity, language spoken/written, and place of origin. While most of those claiming Slovakland as their place of origin were ethnic Slovaks, not all ethnic Slovaks and Slovak speakers originated from Slovakland.

While Slovakland may have been an incorrect usage a the time (the region of Slovkia was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire prior to 1918, part of Czechoslovakia from 1918 to 1993), it did accurately describe a specific region of Central Europe during an era of military campaigns fluid borders. Treaty/Agreement Section

edit

I added a Treaty/Agreement section because I found no logical place to put requests for an article on treaties or agreements anywhere else. In this section I added a request for the Gaza-Jericho Agreement, an agreement between the Palestinians and Israel. I am by no means knowalagable in this area, or politics in general, I just thought it might be a good idea to have a new section and maybe something on the agreement.

If I made an error, I sincerely appologize, this is my first time doing a major edit on Wikipedia, however I have read most of the rules and formats and such. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.1.79.107 (talkcontribs) 23:51, 21 January 2006(UTC).

'which language has the most words?'

edit

I'm new to this part of WP and I'm wondering if it's okay to remove a requested article from the list if it is something that doesn't make sense. The one I'm referring to here is 'Most Words: which language has the most words?' in the 'Languages' section. The question in the title is meaningless because: the notion 'word' is very hard to define (usually done by language, and even then there are often several different types of 'word'); and, because every language has, essentially, an infinite number of words. Note here I'm assuming 'language' to mean a complete, natural human language which is (or was) someone's first language. Dougg 09:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I've removed 'Most Words: which language has the most words?' for the above reasons. Dougg 01:31, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think it should be re-instated. This is a question that is very commonly asked. the answer should then be something like what Dougg wrote, but expanded a bit. Kdammers 00:53, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I came to this page after searching for "which language has the most words." I believe the reasoning for removing the article doesn't make sense - "every language has, essentially, an infinite number of words" that sounds deep, but I doubt it's true. The article on the number of words in the English language chose to state the number of words in the Oxford dictionary - about 500,000, a number that is far short of infinite. I suspect that every language has a finite number of words, and though it probably can't be calculated with precision, it would not be difficult to choose a method for estimating that number. Josh Altesman

edit

There is a (year old) request for an article on Josh Altesman. I've been trying to find infomation on him, but the on Josh Altesman I can find is one of 10 authors of "A Survey of New Yorkers After the Sept. 11, 2001, Terrorist Attacks" (http://www.ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/abstract/160/4/780). In itself that isn't notable (and I'm not even sure this is the same person - the one here is listed in the "Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender" section and this paper does not appear to match that subject matter.)

Unless someone has further infomation I'm going to delete the request for this article. (See User:Nloth/Non Notable Article Requests for more on this) Nloth 06:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Who are the U.S. Politicans that are Dual Citizens ?

I hope there's interest in this topic. The reason is obvious to me, as they can not properly repesent the United States. If I am worng please state why.--Pelican Resques Baby 14:02, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Many times a person holds dual citizenship because the original country of citizenship does not allow citizenship to be waived. This may not make a lot of sense, but it is something to bear in mind. The article is a good idea nonetheless. Aristotle2600 21:50, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

cleanup

edit

I removed 'Being-in-the-world' - now redirects to Heideggerian terminology, 'joi-de-vivre' - has its own stub now, 'Hylemorphism' - Hylomorphism exists, and 'Ken Wilbur' - as Ken Wilber already exists. I dont think that hylemorphism is a common alternative spelling, however, Wilber I thought warranted a re-direct page so now Ken Wilbur redirects to it.

In addition, there was some extraneous advertisment above the list in the philosophy section that had been questioned by another user august 25 - since it had not been defended and was clearly a personal ad, I deleted it as well. Feel free to revert if I stepped on anyone's toes; if so, I apologize in advance. Sam 02:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also removed Linda Hutcheon (and added philo-stub to that page), noted that Martin Rowlands has a page, but it is about soccer player so it may warrant a disambiguation if an article is to be written. New Sincerity has a page now, (added philo-stub to page), so it has been removed. Moved 'Epistemological difference between science and management' from the bottom to "E" section, removed request for 'wittenstein' (see Wittgenstein) and Wikiality since they both exist. Further moved a request for 'R. Sorabji' into the Philosophy Section and formatted request for 'David Abram' and 'Round Square Copola' to confrom to the list. Looks like that could be it for now...
