Request

edit

I hope to request an article but don't know where to list it. Will anyone kindly list it for me? The topic is:

Thanks forward.--miya (talk) 01:41, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Resolved requests

edit

Are the requests, once resolved, deleted from the lists?--mrg3105 (comms) ♠22:54, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I checked around the other request talk pages, and the answer appears to be "yes". Personally, if I fulfill one I leave it for a bit so folks can see what's added, but I delete any link that's been blue for a week or so. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:34, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shifting Biography requests to other page

edit

Given that there's an entire list just for requested biographies, does anyone object to moving all requested articles about specific people to Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biographies? That'll make this rather long page more manageable. This page, in general, could use a lot of re-org, so I might come back and chip away at it if work is slow. MatthewVanitas (talk) 10:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reduced from 170kB to 127kB by moving out Biographies, moving Defunct Military Academies to subpage, and deleting fulfilled requests

edit

The list was getting pretty huge, so I managed to trip it by nearly a third though the above changes, as well as categorizing and recategorizing quite a few chunks. I'm guessing maybe five hours total over the course of the last two days. It was actually a lot of fun, and I incidentally learned a lot of new things as I wandered through the topics, so recommend it highly. If anyone else has any suggestions as to how to make this page flow better, that'd be great. I do think we can sort/neaten the Political Topics section better. Maybe make a couple more subsections like "Political Parties", "Militant and Terrorist groups", etc? Making some sexy categories like "Terrorist groups" might help get people's attention in filling requests. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request to Fragment Article

edit

Any chance we can break up the article into separate pages? I'd like to watch the "Psychology" section, but have to parse through every change to "Social science" to see it. Seems reasonable to break up the page. Anyone else agree? --1000Faces (talk) 18:19, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The page is getting big, but if we're going to pick sections to put into sub-pages, think of it this way:

  • Psych - 10 screens' worth (rough measure)
  • Society/culture - 12 screens
  • Politics - 14 screens
  • Religion - 20 screens

I would submit that moving religion to its own sub-page would be the most effective way to trim down the page, with moving Politics being the next choice. EDIT: the main page is only 124K, I don't personally find that unmanageable. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:26, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wuptaki Ruins, Arizona

edit

I see someone has requested an article on "Wuptaki Ruins in Arizona" in section 5.2. I believe they are mispelling Wupatki, as in Wupatki National Monument which is already on the wiki. I'm too much of a newbie to feel comfortable deleting it from the list, but I'm nearly positive that it's the same topic. Merbert (talk) 21:18, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Palinism

edit

On 26 September I added a request here for Palinism, "nominally, the philosophy of candidate Sarah Palin - 7,000+ Google hits on 25 Sept 2008." (Has 9,000+ ghits today, 3 October).
On 28 September 2008 User:Horologium deleted this with the comment "Removed salted topic."
If you click on Palinism you see the note/rationale "deleted "Palinism" (G10: Attack page or negative unsourced BLP: Neologism).
Perhaps some existing article Palinism had problems, but IMHO that's not justification for salting it -- just fix it.
At Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Politics I suggested that Palinism should just redirect to the existing, non-salted article Political positions of Sarah Palin. This seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Comments? -- 201.53.7.16 (talk) 06:40, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

(Cross-posted from my talk page; this discussion has been forum-shopped to several different locations.)
The problem was not so much with your suggestion, but rather what was there when I speedy deleted it; it was not a discussion of Palin's beliefs, but rather an attack on Palin's speaking style, with a link to Bushism, and similar text. I discovered your link in the requested articles section hours later, and removed it because the term had been salted. I salted it because anything other than a protected redirect is likely to turn into another version of the article I deleted, and because there is no currency for the term outside of blogs and other opinion sites. A Google news search a moment ago returned 28 hits, most of which were op/ed columns or blogs. Someone who is interested in Sarah Palin's political views will more likely search Sarah Palin (which has a handy link to the political views page) than Palinism. "Palinism" is likely to remain confined to bloggers, which are not reliable sources and cannot be used to establish notability or substantiate statements made in Wikipedia articles. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, and that includes using it to support or oppose a candidate for office. Horologium (talk) 12:21, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rape education, Rape prevention, Rape crisis counselor

edit

I'm surprised that none of the above three articles currently exist. I see hundreds of thousands of Google hits. There's even a request for an article on the Clothesline project in this section. Would someone please find an appropriate place to list these articles as requested? - I didn't see a logical place to do so (I put Rape education and Rape prevention under Education, but perhaps they should be grouped together). Simesa (talk) 02:04, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Articles on Rape crisis counselor and Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape (the book by Susan Brownmiller) would also be helpful. Simesa (talk) 09:18, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

This page is a beast

edit

This page is a beast. It's 151 kilobytes - the table of contents is over 3000 characters for FSM's sake! I have managed to chew off the first couple of sections of the Governance / etc. section, but it's been a slow process. We need to do something. I see three options:

  1. We split this article up into multiple smaller articles.
  2. We archive all of the old requests.
  3. We leave it as it is.

Note that none of these deals with clearing the backlog. For that, I have a couple of ideas I have been thinking about:

  1. Start a WP:WikiProject Requested Articles that would manage all of the requested articles pages, have barnstars, competitions, etc.
  2. Instead of a WikiProject, start a backlog drive, something along the lines of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives.
  3. Create a template for requests that would be something like {{la}} but with more - this wouldn't clear out articles but I think it would help make future requests easier to fill.

Now, I'm pretty sure there's practically nobody who watches this page. This is the WikiWilderness out here. Anybody that is watching this page - do you have any thoughts? Bsimmons666 (talk) 22:00, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I actually think I want to start off a WikiProject for the Requested Articles, but I lack experience....let me do a little studying up on these kinds of things and I'll get back to you on this. FUTURI (talk) 17:42, 4 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I suggest that more than 50% of the idioms requested are more "wikionary" than "wikipedia" so some of these could be trimmed from this page EdwardLane (talk) 02:07, 24 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dyuktai Cave

edit

Dyuktai Cave is located in the Aldan River valley in northeast Siberia. The cave is a karst cavity formed in limestone, with a surface area of about 60 m2. It is the type site for the Dyuktai culture, an early northeast Asian culture that is characterized by a blade and core technology. The Dyuktai Cave site contains evidence of Pleistocene occupation between about 16,000 – 12,000 years BP. The three Pleistocene levels contained 316 implements and fragments of various blade cores, burins, and projectile points. A bone awl-like tool and a hammer made of reindeer antler were also recovered. Faunal remains included mammoth, reindeer, wolf, and other small animals, but evidence of human activity seems to be restricted to the mammoth remains that were found. Many archaeologists believe that the Dyuktai people successfully colonized areas of Beringia and, eventually, North America. http://www.sfu.museum/journey/an-en/postsecondaire-postsecondary/grotte_dyuktai-dyuktai_cave Near settlements Belkachi and Ust-Mil uncovered parking primitive hunters similar Ust-Timptonskaya. World famous being Diuktai cave, discovered in 1967. Yakut Yu.A.Mochanovym archaeologist on the right bank of the river Dyuktay (112km from the mouth). Dyuktay flows into the Aldan right at 1031-kilometer. Area the cave is about 60 sq.m. http://turizm.lib.ru/t/turism/aldan.shtml The Diuktai Cave research delineated northeast Asia’s characteristic core-and-blade and biface industry in context with late Pleistocene megafauna. Diuktai Cave produced numerous flaked tools, including bifacial willow-leaf and subtriangular spearheads and oval knives (Mochanov 1980:122). The Diuktai Culture, a culture of hunters of mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, bison, horse, musk oxen and reindeer, is characterized by bifacial, willow-leaf, lancet-shaped, and subtriangular flint spearheads, as well as oval and semilunar knives, accompanied by end scrapers, burins, choppers, mammoth tusk spearheads, bone needles, wedge-shaped cores, and flint blade points (Mochanov 1980:123). The Diuktai Culture existed in northeast Asia from 35,000 to 10,500 B.P. (Ikawa-Smith 1982:25). Mochanov includes Hokkaido and Sakhalin Islands in the east Asian Diuktai Tradition. The Diuktai variant is represented at Angara, Amur, Indigirka, Kolyma, Kamchatka, Kukhtui, as well as other sites in Asia from the southern Urals to Mongolia and China, in Japan, and in North America (Mochanov 1978a:65). http://archaeology.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=archaeology&cdn=education&tm=19&f=21&su=p284.13.342.ip_&tt=8&bt=5&bts=6&zu=http%3A//www.jqjacobs.net/anthro/paleoamerican_origins.html Dyuktai Cave Pg27 Translated and Edited by Richard L. Bland Discovered in September 1967 during work by the PAE, Dyuktai Cave is located on the right bank of the Dyuktai River, 112 m from its mouth (Fig. 3). The Dyuktai River is a right-bank tributary of the Aldan, 1,020 km from its mouth. The cave represents a karst cavity cut by the Dyuktai River, formed in dolomitic Cambrian limestones. An initial small karst cavity in the area near the mouth was expanded as a result of wave action in the Dyuktai River. http://www.nps.gov/akso/beringia/beringia/library/The-Earliest-Stages-of-Settlement-by-People-of-Northeast-Asia.pdf Geographic coordinates for Dalgaky (stream) in RUSSIA Latitudine 59.293672 North Longitudine 132.411359 Est Latitudine Degrees, minutes, and seconds ( DMS ) 59° 17' 37" North Longitudine Degrees, minutes, and seconds ( DMS ) 132° 24' 41" Est http://www.geographic-coordinates.com/coordinates/latitudelongitude/RS/dalgaky/251063 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.218.140.186 (talk) 08:23, 18 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Economics subpage

There is currently a red link leading to an economics subpage that I suspect has been moved. I assume that the relevant page is Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Business_and_economics#Economics, but I can't figure out how to link there. Help would be appreciated. Removed "CoochCoach" entry

edit

I've removed the entry for "CoochCoach" under Feminism and Women's Studies. Seems like a very likely advertisement for a website that's very unlikely to be notable. Seems I also forgot to log in, whoops. If this is a mistake, please correct it. 75.121.235.170 (talk) 14:41, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi! The Wurzelwicht (in category Mythology) can be removed. The term is simply another - although very old vernacular - expression for de:Gnom, where it redirects anyway. The corresponding English page is gnome. All the best Wikirictor 17:53, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Robin Williams (sociologist)

edit

I'm reasonably certain that the Robin Williams listed in this article is Robin Murphy Williams (given the 12 cultural values). I will therefore be deleting the entry from the list and creating a redirect, but i wanted to add this as a topic in case I'm incorrect. Saturniapavonia (talk) 16:20, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
