The article Let's All Go to the Lobby you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Let's All Go to the Lobby and Talk:Let's All Go to the Lobby/GA2 for issues which need to be addressed. The article Let's All Go to the Lobby you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:Let's All Go to the Lobby for comments about the article, and Talk:Let's All Go to the Lobby/GA2 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

edit

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer   Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

edit

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to   Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! Help? for plot summary

edit

Hi, would you mind terribly trimming the bloated plot summary I've written for Flypaper (1998 film). The article is being reviewed for DYK at Template:Did you know nominations/Flypaper (1998 film), where the reviewer insists that it could be shorter even tho I explained basically that it's impossible and that WP:FILMPLOT wasn't a rigid rule. I would really appreciate it if you could help with shortening it, even if it means losing the 5x expansion criterion it may have once had as a result of the copy edit. Thanks Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 13:25, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Nineteen Ninety-Four guy: I've read through the article and will start copyediting the plot now. I may have a couple questions which I'll post below. – Reidgreg (talk) 16:35, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Nineteen Ninety-Four guy: Finished. A couple things I changed which might not be right:
  • With the discussion about the parking lot and "driving around the complex", it sounded more like a motel than a hotel so I changed that.
  • The term henchman implies criminal activity so I switched to a more neutral "employee".
  • I wasn't sure why Jack would hit Bobby with a golf club then exchange gunfire unless he only obtained the gun by knocking it out of Bobby's hand with the golf club. So I assumed that happened and wrote it that way.
  • Sorry. What happened was that Bobby Ray kept pounding the door, so Jack told Natalie to open it just to hit him with the club to keep him out. Bobby then shoots through the door and then Jack shoots back, hence the gunfire exchange. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 04:11, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Otherwise I pretty much condensed it, put similar thoughts together, and trimmed some details that didn't seem important. – Reidgreg (talk) 18:28, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much. I never thought it was possible. Nineteen Ninety-Four guy (talk) 04:11, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sometimes it just takes a fresh pair of eyes. When I've been staring at my own writing too long, I'll sometimes get blocked and have to ask someone else to look at it. – Reidgreg (talk) 12:10, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Vchimpanzee: No, I didn't find any answer – any processes or guidelines for establishing maintenance categories. It seemed a bit WP:CABALish to me at the time. Perhaps things have changed since then. I didn't have the time or energy to pursue it further or to poll the community about establishing a guideline. – Reidgreg (talk) 03:48, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ukrainian Sheriffs edit

edit

Hi! Regarding [1]. You stated "The release date is the commercial release date in theatres, July 2016. Special screenings like film festivals and gala premieres don't count as the release." Per WP:FILMRELEASE: "Release dates should therefore be restricted to the film's earliest release, whether it was at a film festival, a world premiere, or a public release, and the release date(s) in the country or countries that produced the film, excluding sneak previews or screenings." Considering the film was shown at the 2015 IDFA, it would be classified as a 2015 film per our guidelines. We do count film festivals as releases. See Apolonia, Apolonia (showed at 2022 IDFA, commercially in 2023), Our Daily Bread (showed at 2005, commercially in 2006/07), etc. Let me know your thoughts.

@Bovineboy2008: Yeah, I think you're right. I did read WP:FILMRELEASE before reverting, but that regards the infobox only and template documentation has remarkably little oversight. However, I've now taken a look through sources and most note it as a 2015 film, so I'll follow the sources on this. I have changed it to 2015 in the lead sentence and short description. Sorry for the disruption. – Reidgreg (talk) 17:02, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi -- just wanted to let you know that I've posted the FailedGA template on Talk:Susanne Craig; I know you're working on notes for the GA review page, and this doesn't get in the way of that. Go ahead and update the review page as you see fit -- I just wanted the bot to process the fail so the second nomination can go up without me having to babysit the bot in case it gets upset about two simultaneous nominations. @Mike Christie: Okay, great! Thanks for letting me know and having a cool head throughout. I think I'll actually take my time with this then, I feel like I've been responding off and on for a few hours now. I do want to get a good close in. You know, technically, if the nominator hasn't addressed the comments I'm about to post, then the new reviewer can quick fail the second nomination. Not that that's going to happen. – Reidgreg (talk) 23:18, 13 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
