One person supporting dose not a consensus make
Thus restoring. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:46, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- One? You clearly missed the consensus as evaluated by the neutral admin, User:Plastikspork, who closed the TfD. You have, again, broken articles, as I have already pointed out to you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:48, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 19
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Camelot Entertainment Group, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Irvine. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Materials Horizons article proposed deletion
Hi Andy. Another user RandyKitty, who tends to patrol the journals section and is part of WP:NJournals wishes to delete the page related to the journal because they deem it to be Non-notable new journal. Not indexed in any selective databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.
Any advice on what to do to prevent this occuring? Thanks DrJWoolf (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- @DrJWoolf: I have no doubt a neutral editor will not allow it to happen. I have already added on independent source. You may have others to add. Be patient. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:52, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Andy, it seems despite my best effort that this will be deleted. It's due to be added to SCI in the near future so I'll probably create it again at that point. I've saved it for future use once this happens. DrJWoolf (talk) 13:11, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @DrJWoolf: Yes, sadly, that may happen. But if it does, and once there is a SCI listing, don't recreate it; you can request "undeletion", and your work will be restored. Bear in mind that WP:NJournals is not a bnding policy, just a few editors' collective personal thoughts. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: Thanks for the info on that, didn't realise that was possible. I'll probably try some other editing soon and hopefully that will be more successful. DrJWoolf (talk) 13:59, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can download the new version of the Wikipedia app for Android. The new version shows lead images, better galleries and content from Wikidata. It also has many other new features.[1] [2]
- Programs and bots still can't read information about images on many wikis. You can see the list of wikis with the most files to fix. Wikipedia in Italian, Indonesian and Japanese language have the most files to fix. On the biggest wikis you should use bots. Bots can add information templates to groups of files. You can ask other tech users to help you.
Problems
- All JavaScript on Commons was broken for a few minutes on Tuesday. It was because of old code in the HotCat tool. The same problem happened on some Wikipedias on Wednesday. It is now fixed. [3]
Software changes this week
- There are no software changes this week and next week due to annual meetings. [4]

Removing banner from Harry Mark Petrakis article
On the article I wrote for Wikipedia on author Harry Mark Petrakis, you put a banner across the top. This is what it says:
This biographical article needs additional citations for verification. Please help by adding reliable sources. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous or harmful. (August 2014)
That banner was put up in August 2014, before the November 2014 publication of Petrakis's autobiography, "Song of My Life." When it came out, I returned to my article and added numerous citations to the autobiography to verify much biographical information. So will you look at my article again, and take the banner off now? Thank you. Lambrini Papangelis Lambrini Papangelis (talk) 21:02, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Re: Adele
Hi Andy. I must confess I thought her nationality had been changed by one of those people who like to participate in the British v individual constituent country edit warring that goes on from time to time (often because they simply prefer the use of one term rather than the other). It happens quite a lot with Scotland articles, and if I see the nationality changed without a reason I always tend to revert to whatever the original was. But I'm very happy to go with your decision on this one. This is Paul (talk) 11:48, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Lotta nerve
You edited my talkpage after I asked you not to do so. Don't do that. And as a courtesy reply, you are complaining too much given your edits e.g. [14], [15]. And next time if you says something is "broken", describe exactly what';' is broken or you might be reverted. -DePiep (talk) 09:31, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- I don't recall any such notification; diff, please? Besides, I haven't edited your talk page for almost two weeks, and that was to warn you not to remove or edit my TfD comments; something about which you were subsequently cautioned at WP:ANI:
"DePiep, you need to grow up and stop baiting Andy, this is a situation waiting for a WP:BOOMERANG on you for your poor behavior"
;"DePiep, you'd best knock it off voluntarily and move on as it's not worth it, unless you actually want involuntary editing restrictions imposed on your account"
. I urge you to heed such advice. My edits, which you quote, do not compare, and are simple technical fixes, permitted by policy, and which do not remove content. As for your "broken" comment, if you refer to your talk page indenting habit, I've already told you why and how its broken, and shown you how to fix it. Please stop editing Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Quote without discussing your changes at WT:POST. The MfD was closed as a clear keep, so your chicanery and shenanigans are really not appreciated. Thanks. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 19:07, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- No it wasn't, it was closed as "keep/merge" and the closing admin commented
"The suggested solution of merging the two templates (thereby converting this one to a wrapper) enjoys greater support and is consistent with decisions reached in similar situations, so those with the necessary know-how should feel free to proceed"
. Since there are no unique parameters requiring a wrapper, a redirect is equivalent. Please do do not omit edit summaries when you revert; and knock of the personal attacks. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:16, 6 February 2015 (UTC)- I'm assuming that you realize that moving comments to a wider and related forum is not the same thing as removing them, but YMMV. WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 1
Hi! Thank you for subscribing to the WikiProject X Newsletter. For our first issue...
Has WikiProject X changed the world yet? No.
We opened up shop last month and announced our existence to the world. Our first phase is the "research" phase, consisting mostly of reading and listening. We set up our landing page and started collecting stories. So far, 28 stories have been shared about WikiProjects, describing a variety of experiences across numerous WikiProjects. A recurring story involves a WikiProject that starts off strong but has trouble continuing to stay active. Most people describe using WikiProjects as a way to get feedback from other editors. Some quotes:
- "Working on requested articles, utilising the reliable sources section, and having an active WikiProject to ask questions in really helped me learn how to edit Wikipedia and looking back I don't know how long I would have stayed editing without that project." – Sam Walton on WikiProject Video Games
- "I believe that the main problem of the Wikiprojects is that they are complicated to use. There should be a a much simpler way to check what do do, what needs to be improved etc." – Tetra quark
- "In the late 2000s, WikiProject Film tried to emulate WP:MILHIST in having coordinators and elections. Unfortunately, this was not sustainable and ultimately fell apart." – Erik
Of course, these are just anecdotes. While they demonstrate what is possible, they do not necessarily explain what is typical. We will be using this information in conjunction with a quantitative analysis of WikiProjects, as documented on Meta. Particularly, we are interested in the measurement of WikiProject activity as it relates to overall editing in that WikiProject's subject area.
We also have 50 people and projects signed up for pilot testing, which is an excellent start! (An important caveat: one person volunteering a WikiProject does not mean the WikiProject as a whole is interested; just that there is at least one person, which is a start.)
While carrying out our research, we are documenting the problems with WikiProjects and our ideas for making WikiProjects better. Some ideas include better integration of existing tools into WikiProjects, recommendations of WikiProjects for people to join, and improved coordination with Articles for Creation. These are just ideas that may or may not make it to the design phase; we will see. We are also working with WikiProject Council to improve the directory of WikiProjects, with the goal of a reliable, self-updating WikiProject directory. Stay tuned! If you have any ideas, you are welcome to leave a note on our talk page.
That's all for now. Thank you for subscribing!
Editing Wikipedia
Hallo Andy, I have just edited an article about Larry Stephens, the West Bromwich born Goon Show scriptwriter. It seems to have been accepted. t was a couple of additional sentences about his marriage, and a reference of course. Thanks again for last week. Peter Robert Shirley (talk) 11:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
iso_code
You added an iso_code param to Template:Infobox UK place. Just wondering if you could a add a line to the docs page to describe what it is to be used for? -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:23, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'd already included a link to ISO 3166, which suffices in the documentation of {{Infobox settlement}}, from where I copied the code, but I have now added some explanatory text. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:38, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. --- WOSlinker (talk) 13:26, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

A.W. Hill
Hi POTW, I recognize that you have far more experience in this world than I, and I was interested in your input. I've seen some recent housekeeping from you and another editor at A.W. Hill, which per my understanding should be merged to Andy Hill (film music supervisor) per the recent AfD. Is that still in the works? I've noticed some cosmetic changes over the last few days and this edit that suggests the article has been merged, but I don't see content having been moved to Andy Hill (American music producer). This isn't a criticism of you, I'm just confused. I'm sure your quickest of summaries will suffice, and an even simpler, "the process takes a few days, chillax" will be perfectly fine for me to get me to shut up. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 08:14, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: The merge appears to have been carried out by User:Anthony Appleyard, in this set of edits. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:27, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- That was a history-merge, not a text-merge. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:58, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Someone hit me with the n00b stick. Thanks guys. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:29, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for February 12
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of public art in Sandwell, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sot's Hole. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wikidata weekly summary #145
- Events/Blogs/Press
- Other Noteworthy Stuff
- Spiffy new project building on top of Wikidata: inventaire.io. Check out this example entry!
- You will now see when a language fallback for a label is used on an item or property. The language name will be shown next to it.
- Automatic descriptions for Wikidata items by Magnus
- The templates for adding badges (good article, featured article, etc) to articles on Wikipedia in the sidebar are getting removed from articles rapidly in favor of getting that information from Wikidata \o/ German Wikipedia even deleted those templates already. English Wikipedia seems to be getting close.
- Did you know?
- Newest properties: Journalisted ID, Biography at the Bundestag of Germany, Metacritic ID
- Newest WikiProjects: Identical Twins
- Development
- <3
- We are hiring! Passionate about Wikidata and know your way around Java Script and co? Apply!
- We'll spend the next week working with Nik and Stas from WMF to move queries forward in Berlin
- Worked on implementing a Lua interface for arbitrary Snak rendering. This can be used to render eg. qualifiers or references in Wikipedia infoboxes.
- Did groundwork for Lua convenience functions that render data in the user’s interface language, rather than the content language (for multilingual wikis, like Commons or Wikidata only)
- Did further work on making the Lua interface code nicer and share code with the parser functions
- Removed input method selector in the sitelink input as it was hiding the actual input and not very useful there
- Fixed some issues in diff views showing new data instead of old data
- Created a few scripts to make it easier for 3rd parties to install Wikibase
- Fixed icinga notification that tests if dispatch lag gets high
- Investigated several issues regarding storage of time values and started fixing them
- Fixed editing of qualifiers
- Fixed most browser tests after introduction of new header design
- Monthly Tasks
- Hack on one of these.
- Help fix these items which have been flagged using Wikidata - The Game.
- Help develop the next summary here!
- Contribute to a Showcase item
- Help translate or proofread pages in your own language!

Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since February 11. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from February 17. It will be on all Wikipedias from February 18 (calendar).
- On Wednesday your Meta user page will be shown if you don't have a user page on a wiki. [28] [29] [30]
- You can now change the order of categories in VisualEditor using drag-and-drop. [31]
- In VisualEditor, you now need to make a change before you can "Apply Changes" to citations and templates. [32]
- The way the cursor moves in VisualEditor is changing. Your browser now handles the cursor directly. Most of you will see no change. In right-to-left text, the cursor now moves in a 'visible' rather than 'logical' way. This is like other sites but you may be surprised at first. [33]
Meetings
- The VisualEditor Team had their first public bug triage meeting on February 11. They will post the results on the meeting page. [34]
- You can join the second weekly meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meetings you can tell developers which bugs are the most important. The meeting will be on February 18 at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join. [35]
- You can join a meeting with the developers of the Content Translation tool. It will be on February 18 at 13:00 (UTC). [36]
Future changes
- You can comment on a proposal about abandoned Labs tools.

Head up re an individual willing to help with audio
Andy, I just handled an OTRS ticket from a reader who thinks we need more audio in Wikipedia. I pointed the person to Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia, but suggested that we need help. The person indicated a willingness to help and asked how.
I saw your name as a contributor to the project, and recall you have an interest in audio on Wikipedia, so I am going to post this message, and ask the individual to reach out to you, either on your talk page or by email (I understand it is better to use talk pages, but some new contributors may feel more comfortable starting out on email.)
I'd like to see more audio resources in Wikipedia, but it is not in my wheelhouse, so I hope this person can help.--S Philbrick(Talk) 02:57, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Noted, thanks. I'll be happy to help. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:05, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'm happy to hear that. I Just shared the email address with you.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:40, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
