Banning for writing Original Research?
editHello, ESkog. A fast question: Do administrators ban people for only one instance of publishing Original Research in Wikipedia? In other word, if I ever become one, should I do so? Thanks, Fleet Command (talk) 19:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Now, in that regard, what do you think of this edit? Is it addition of Original Research or just vandalism? Fleet Command (talk) 08:56, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, that I'm completely certain of; I was merely asking whether this type of disruptive editing is Original Research. But I believe I got my answer. (You stated that it is subtle WP:SPAM.) Thank you. See you around. Fleet Command (talk) 20:25, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Problem with "What links here"
editHello, ESkog. Looks like no one knows why, so I though I'd ask you. Special:WhatLinksHere/Offline reader is supposed to give me a list of articles that link to Offline reader but most of them don't link there, as far I can tell. Any idea what's wrong? Fleet Command (talk) 12:58, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, as far as I can tell, right now, it is working properly!
But when I wrote to you, it was showing items like Galeon and Internet Explorer 9 which all failed the following test: I pressed Edit button in the article, pressed CTRL+F on my keyboard and searched [[Offline re, [[Offline mai or [[Offline br. These searches never yielded anything.
But it is resolved now, though I'm curious: When you received my call, did you run any certain script or administrative tool to see what's wrong? Maybe that has fixed it...
Thanks anyway. Fleet Command (talk) 21:48, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Source validation: U.S. High Schools
editHello, ESkog. I have this unreferenced assertion that say U.S. high schools are leaning towards segregation of genders, i.e. being a male-only or female-only school. I will not have such a thing without source in Wikipedia, but given the reputation of the contributor, I thought checking with you wouldn't hurt. Do you think this assertion is genuine? Fleet Command (talk) 20:01, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- "I have no doubt that your source is credible", you said! Man, I said "I have this unreferenced assertion...". I'm deleting the assertion. Peace. Fleet Command (talk) 21:36, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
A penny for your thoughts
editHello! I dropped by because I would like to ask a favor of you to give me a bit of help on something. I am currently in the process of doing a Good Article Nomination Review for White Horse (song), and this is my first time reviewing an article with a non-fair use image with the rationale for those. I looked up the criteria for these rationales but am still a little fuzzy. Noticing you examples page for appropriate non-fair use rationales I was wondering if you could look at this images rationale:
File:Taylor Swift in White Horse music video.jpg
and help me identify whether or not this is an appropriate rationale for a image on a Good Article? It seems to answer what is needed but surely is not as detailed as it could be. Is this a problem? Any help you can provide is appreciated. •Felix• T 20:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Trolli Page
editDear ESkog,
I'm having trouble with this whole copyright infringment policy surrounding Trolli's page.
Is there anywhere we could talk (e.g. e-mail) more comfortably than here for I have a few questions.
The various images of mine that you have deleted all belong to the company I am working for: Some were taken by people in the company, some were made by my colleagues and some we're taken over 40 years ago.
Could you please explain the process I need to undergo in order to keep the page up with all of it's content.
Furthermore, the person who uploaded this page nearly a year ago no longer works here and did not exaclty understand how Wikipedia works, very much like me.
Any help would be very welcome.
Also, the work day is over so until 09.00 (GMT +1) tomorrow, I cannot make any changes, so please leave the content up.
Best regards, Greg

List of nutrition guides
editHello, I appreciate your good-faith edits to List of nutrition guides in the interest of following the rules on non-free images. But I believe Wikipedia provides guidance for using non-free images in lists, rather than an outright ban on them, and I've started a discussion on the article's talk page on how to follow those guidelines. "Edit War"
editThere is no edit war. Someone wasnt reading an article i mentioned in an edit clear enough that was already in the section as a source. I posted on his talk page and quoted the line on the page that i got the information from. If they still deny the truthfullness, then thats their problem not mine. U might want to look at what i posted on the talk page of the article before you threaten me with a ban.--Rockchalk717 (talk) 00:03, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

editWikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2011_September_15#File:Submersible_1.jpg
Please read my follow-up comment there. It contains proof that that picture was taken by the US Navy. Basically the photo is a still from a film taken by the US Navy, and you can download the film from the link in my comment there (it is an 84.5 mb avi file showing the whole film), and you can see the picture in its footage. If you want to investigate and re-evaluate your statement there, I will be glad to provide any further assistance. Eddo36 (talk) 01:12, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Could you please check this article. I reverted the user's contributions because they apparently violated copyright, but I'm not sure if this is a copy>paste or not (on top of that, Huggle hicupped on me while I was working, obviously). Calabe1992 (talk) 14:56, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Non-free image issues
editGreetings. As per the tags added to this image and this image which I recently uploaded, I tried checking Commons and Flickr for freely licenced versions without any luck. They're pretty obscure people in the grand scheme of things, so I don't think it's particularly easy to come across any freebies. Granted, there's the option of contacting various authors on Flickr in an attempt to get them to allow me to use one or more of their images on Wikipedia, but I don't really have the patience to go around contacting a bunch of people. I could either end up waiting a long time, or not get any responses nor permission. Plus, I wouldn't be familiar with how to subsequently credit them and ensure the correct licencing tag.
If you could suggest to me what I could do to make my screenshots passable rather than them being summarily deleted, I would appreciate it. The two articles in question have been without proper infobox images for years and, since I'm actively involved in maintaining their bio pages, I figured I'd just try to be proactive. Also, I've noticed a few screenshots elsewhere which are obviously taken from TV broadcasts, but have somehow managed to circumvent the non-free licence by means of false information. Here is an image, for example, which looks very much like a crude photograph of a TV broadcast, but the author seems to have got away with it by stating that it is his own work. If he can get away with it, in all fairness, what are my chances? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 16:20, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- In which case, I guess I don't have a leg to stand on.. No worries. It's a shame they'll get deleted, but that's at the articles' expense, not mine. If my only option is to go around pleading for permission from Flickr users, I'll leave it be. Maybe in some years' time Wikipedia will evolve into something less draconian when it comes to the encyclopaedic use of images. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 17:17, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Pics
editHi - yes, thank you, that is very much what I had in mind - it's the extra bit of outreach and the offer of help that I think is absolutely crucial. Sure, we can't make the editor read it and comply, but it's great that you've offered the help. And if it did then all go a bit pear-shaped in the kind of way that I was worrying about, then having done this I think makes it much more likely that we can still come up smelling of roses! Thanks again and best wishes DBaK (talk) 22:30, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
