Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. Robert Hayman

Hi, I just reverted your edit to the entry on Robert Hayman, where you picked up on a mis-spelling of 'allmost' and corrected it to 'almost'? It's because the word's part of a quote in Hayman's own 17th century spelling. The whole quote is unmodernized (you may notice he also spells 'months' as 'monethes', and 'summer' as 'sommer'). So in this context 'allmost' is accurate, simply because that's what Hayman wrote.RLamb (talk) 16:36, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

And while we're at it, I also happened to notice that especially the top-importance and high-importance categories (mostly created in 2007-2008 with the rest of WikiProject Slovakia articles) consist mostly of irrelevant entries, while lacking genuinely importnant articles concerning Slovakia. Does WikiProject Slovakia have any criteria I can look at? I am thinking about maybe jotting down a criterion or two at the project page and then simply re-assessing these pages to bring some semblance of logic into this, because it bothers me a little. Hi, you may want to check the talk page before doing that -- Slovakian is the common usage for that particular breed, even if it's not correct. I had left a move request here which is why it was originally moved back. Thanks for understanding :) – anna 20:44, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

No problem at all, I understand why you did it. Kind of embarrassing for the FCI, really, who lets the parent country of each breed dictate its standard, which is then adopted by many national kennel clubs throughout the world. Czechoslovakian Wolfdog is yet another. I'm curious about how many incorrect demonyms there are in breed names (are there any other Slovak breeds?) – anna 04:05, 28 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm so sorry! The diacritic changes were completely unintended, and must have been a side effect of the external text editor I used. I've had similar issues before, but normally they are more obvious, bozes, questions marks, etc., rather than just stripping the accents. Would you like me to change them back or can you handle that? The discussion has now been going on long enough that we are beginning to go around in circles. Before talk escalates to shouting, I think it is important to attempt a policy wording that would have the broadest appeal among the 'neutrals' that will also hopefully swing some of the opposers. Vejvančický (talk · contribs) and I have been trying to work out on my talk page what wording we would like to see in a new proposed statement.
