Original research, promotional language

edit

I have removed a considerable amount of original research but am concerned at the amount still in the article. Expanding the article is fine, but added content must be verifiable and should cite reliable sources. It is also important that the wording not appear promotional in any way; words such as "beautiful", "famous", and "luxury" generally should be avoided. I've removed several instances of those. If any other experienced editors are watching this article, I'd really appreciate some help, both with further clean-up and with patrolling newly added content. Quality of Images

edit

I noticed a lot of poor quality, grainy, highly edited, and unnecessary images were added to this article. I cleared it up. I would suggest adding this high quality image to the article Dar es Salaam before dusk.jpg. For new users: Before adding images, make sure it is of high quality and adds value to the article. Article assessment and talk page maintenance

edit

I've assessed this article's quality rating as class C and have added a cleanup banner. There is a lot of good content here, but still quite a bit of work needed. In addition to copy editing, there are a number of sections with missing references. The overall structure needs some work as there are currently too many sections. I have ambitions of doing a lot of work on this with the eventual goal of reaching good article status. I'll be making incremental changes toward the good article criteria. I'll also be referencing the city structure guidelines from WikiProject Cities. If you're interested in helping out in a substantial way, let me know so we can coordinate our efforts. To faciliate better discussions I've refactored this talk page and archived older stale discussions. Shepherd Niles (talk) 13:27, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

'Foreigners'

edit

The article refers to 'foreigners' to Dar es salaam.

Puzzled:

1) The founder of Dar es salaam was a Zanzabari of Arab/Caucasian stock.
2) It was settled and built thereafter by the Germans.
3) ... and then the British.
4) ... and then the National Government of the amalgamated Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
5) ... today, many buildings in Dar es Salaam are financed and owned by outside entities.

Seems the city has fairly diverse origins! Who are the foreigners referred to? For most of recorded East African History this statement would typically be ascribed to a Waswahili referring to the Zanj (not a pretty connotation)!

Can you please remove the xenophobic language from the article. 2001:8003:70F5:2400:4DEF:7FBC:1D3:4A91 (talk) 09:37, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
