Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:39, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

Talk:Mauricio Macri/GA2

Векочел, you opened your review over five weeks ago with the words Векочел, and haven't been back since. It seems likely that you forgot about it, hence this reminder.

Do you intend to begin reviewing this soon? If not, please let me know; I can arrange for the unused review page to be deleted and the nomination put back into the pool of unreviewed GANs with no loss in seniority. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:00, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Векочел, you still need to complete the review somehow. You could make a request at the Argentina WikiProject to see whether anyone would be willing to address the issues you'd inevitably raise during the course of a review, since this is an article on the president of that country, and if no one volunteers, close it then. Or you could preemptively close it now since your one request has not yet been answered and the nominator retired over six weeks ago. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:09, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Please preview, consolidate, and summarize

Hello, Векочел- It looks like you are here to do good work and improve the encyclopedia, which I'm sure everyone appreciates. But this project is a collaboration, and when editors leave no edit summaries, it makes watching pages more tedious for the rest of the community. Below are a few editing suggestions to make it easier for you and others to collaborate on the encyclopedia. Please preview, consolidate, and summarize your edits:

  • Try to consolidate your edits, at least at the section level, to avoid cluttering the page's edit history; this makes it easier for your fellow editors to understand your intentions, and makes it easier for those monitoring activity on the article.
    • The show preview button (beside the "publish changes" button) is helpful for this; use it to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits.
  • Please remember to explain each edit with an edit summary (box above the "publish changes" button).

Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 16:13, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

December 2019

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Editing Donald Trump

Please observe the page restrictions on Donald Trump. Ignoring the big yellow box can result in you being blocked from editing or being topic banned. The restrictions say:

The following discretionary sanctions apply to all people who edit this article:

  • You must not make more than one revert per 24 hours to this article.
  • If an edit you make is reverted you must discuss on the talk page and wait 24 hours before reinstating your edit.

You violated both restrictions when you combined two different paragraphs into one.[1][2] Please don't do this again or you will be reported. - MrX 🖋 13:29, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Four paragraphs in the lead is a style guideline. It is not meant to be strictly adhered to. In fact, WP:LEAD calls it a rule of thumb. Combining unrelated topics in a single paragraph is not very good writing, but if it were, combining the first two paragraphs of the lead would make more sense. - MrX 🖋 13:04, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Edward III of England. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Otto von Bismarck

We know that the picture is of Bismarck, since the article is called Otto von Bismarck, the lede sentence of the article says "Otto Eduard Leopold, Prince of Bismarck, Duke of Lauenburg (born von Bismarck-Schönhausen; German: Otto Eduard Leopold Fürst von Bismarck, Herzog zu Lauenburg; 1 April 1815 – 30 July 1898), known as Otto von Bismarck (German: [ˈɔto fɔn ˈbɪsmaʁk] )...", and the infobox itself says Otto von Bismarck. There is no need to further identify him in the caption to the image. Please stop.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Otto von Bismarck; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:44, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

December 2020

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Kingdom of France does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. ...once again... Moves

How do you make decisions like "not needed" when moving the articles about the members of the Al Saud family? You put notice in some talk pages to call for moves arguing that most of these articles are without their surnames, Al Saud. But when I reviewed the past edits on these articles I have seen that you moved them in June 2020 deleting their surnames, Al Saud.

Please do not move these articles deleting the Al Saud part. If you read news or scientific articles or books on these people, their surnames are used there. In short, your moves will be reverted. In addition, instead of wasting your time to do what you want, you may consider to expand articles using reliable sources. --Egeymi (talk) 15:06, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Egeymi, from what I can find actually, much of the time the surname is omitted. For instance, a quick search on Prince Muhammad bin Nayef turned up the following:
Mohammed bin Nayef threatened by social media campaign, say Saudi prince's lawyers
In the bitter struggle for Saudi rule, Prince Mohammed bin Salman has struck first
The dazzling rise and tragic fall of Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Nayef
This reflects the general practice of leaving out royal surnames. We generally hear in the news descriptions of Queen Elizabeth II and not Elizabeth Windsor, Mohammed bin Salman (or MBS) and not Mohammed Al Saud, Sultan Qaboos of Oman and not Qaboos Al Said, etc. Also WP:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility)#Other royals states Do not use surnames in article titles for such persons. If royals have surnames, then this information should be mentioned in the first line of the article (but care should be taken, as many do not have surnames, and personal surnames may differ from the name of their Royal House). Векочел (talk) 20:30, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Are you trying to have edit wars?

You argued that capitals should be used giving MOS:JOBTITLE, then read it carefully. Hope you will consider to expand the articles instead of doing such things.

Positions, offices, and occupational titles

Offices, titles, and positions such as president, king, emperor, grand duke, lord mayor, pope, bishop, abbot, prime minister, chief financial officer, and executive director are common nouns and therefore should be in lower case when used generically: Mitterrand was the French president or There were many presidents at the meeting. They are capitalized only in the following cases:

When followed by a person's name to form a title, i.e., when they can be considered to have become part of the name: President Nixon, not president Nixon When a title is used to refer to a specific person as a substitute for their name during their time in office, e.g., the Queen, not the queen (referring to Elizabeth II)

Therefore,

Muḥammad bin Nāyif bin ‘Abd al-‘Azīz Āl Su‘ūd; born 30 August 1959) was Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and first deputy prime minister from 2015 to 2017[1] and minister of interior from 2012 to 2017.

should be used given that no title follows the name like in the example, Mitterrand was the French president.

Hope you can get it. --Egeymi (talk) 12:09, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

  • There is one additional case where the title is capitalized that you left off:
When a formal title for a specific entity (or conventional translation thereof) is addressed as a title or position in and of itself, is not plural, is not preceded by a modifier (including a definite or indefinite article), and is not a reworded description:
Crown prince is certainly a title, it is not plural, it is not preceded by a modifier (he is not called “a crown prince of Saudi Arabia”, and not a reworded description (we use the exact title) Векочел (talk) 18:26, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
I think you do not want to read carefully or to understand. Your edits will be corrected. Egeymi (talk) 07:56, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Edit summaries, please

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Eric talk 04:10, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Your page moves of Sultan bin Abdulaziz and Nayef bin Abdulaziz

I have reverted your page moves of Sultan bin Abdulaziz and Nayef bin Abdulaziz per a request made to WP:RMTR (Old revision of WP:RMTR), as well as the most recent WP:RM at Talk:Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia#Requested_move_18_November_2020. Looking at the page history, I can see that you've reverted it once before already. Please do not move it back without a discussion through the WP:RM process. If you continue to edit war through page moving, you're likely to be blocked. OhKayeSierra (talk) 16:24, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Names

Hi, the links you put refer to others, but the parameter reads names, hope I can tell my point --Egeymi (talk) 20:23, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Question

Hii, everyday you are inserting wls or others to the infoboxes. Honestly I wonder if you are planning to add content to the articles using reliable sources.

And are you considering to look at the past actions made on the articles before inserting such wls or parameters. --Egeymi (talk) 10:30, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

  • If I see anything good in the sources I have access to, I will add it. Now to answer your second question, the religion parameter has been kept with royalty. In the description under the infobox royalty template, there is a message that says while the religion parameter has been eliminated in other templates, it is kept in the royalty template because religion is often important to their rule. And it is in use in some articles. Векочел (talk) 14:40, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit summaries ...

Please use them. You've been here long enough and been asked often enough. Ealdgyth (talk) 12:06, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Edit summaries, again...

Hi Векочел, please start using edit summaries as a part of your work here. I just spent time providing a link to the talk-page of the editor who added the "Pharaoh" title to the infobox at Augustus, to justify your change. That should not have been necessary. Cheers, Haploidavey (talk) 07:52, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Caregory:Sons of kings of Saudi Arabia

Hello Векочел,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Joseywales1961, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Caregory:Sons of kings of Saudi Arabia, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Category:Sons of kings of Saudi Arabia. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with Joseywales1961. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Hellenistic royal epithets

Hope all is going well; I saw that you took all the royal epithets out of Ptolemy II. I admit that it's a very minor matter, but I thought I would say that I think it is better to keep them in. It's pretty standard in modern works to refer to the Hellenistic monarchs by them and useful because many works either refer to monarchs by epithets without ordinal numbers or (in the case of the Ptolemies) use different ordinals. Ancient works, of course, never use the ordinals. Furius (talk) 18:08, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

  • Furius, a lot of later Hellenistic monarchs, Egyptian and Seleucid are referenced without using the ordinals, of course including the famous Cleopatra. And also there is not always consistency in the names. For instance, Ptolemy VIII Physcon is also known as Ptolemy Euergetes, and that is also the name of his ancestor Ptolemy III! I am of the opinion that the numbering is the most reliable way to go about this. Векочел (talk) 03:04, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Yes, but that's why it is good to use both. Either one on its own is less helpful. In the articles for English royals, lists of monarchs' issue usually includes titles, e.g Charles I of England#Issue. Furius (talk) 20:02, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
    • The example you give uses princes and princesses, which is not exactly the same as kings and queens. And the title may be used on the article name but very little in the article itself. I would not expect to see "Prince Andrew, Duke of York", just Andrew. And to give another example Catherine the Great is not called by her title throughout the article, but rather simply Catherine. The Honourable

Can you explain what you are doing with your edits to Australian politicians three days ago? You seem to have started removing the honorific "The Honourable" for a number of former prime ministers (which was incorrect), and others like Bob Cotton with the comment "Use of Honourable is similar to that of American politicians" (also incorrect). You did raise it on Talk:Alfred Deakin and the situation was explained, then you started adding "The Honourable" to a number of politicians who were never ministers. The correct usage is explained at The Honourable#Australia, but the short version is that ministers (including the prime minister) serving on the Executive Council are granted the honorific "The Honourable". For federal ministers and ministers in the state of Victoria, the honorific is retained for life, and unlike US politicians it is widely used thereafter in even semi-formal cases. Other Australian states have different arrangements and can grant use of the title for life but generally it is lost when they are no longer a minister. I'm going to revert these edits, which will unfortunately remove the other fixes you did such as removing blank infobox fields and overlinking, but please be more careful about this—the WP:AUSPOL community knows a lot about this sort of stuff and knows what they're doing with title styles and the like. Thanks. --Canley (talk) 10:40, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Векочел. After reviewing your request, I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until {expiry}. Keep in mind these things when using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Title

May I ask. Why did you remove all my edits? Orson12345 (talk) 21:09, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

  • We don't usually use the title Majesty in infoboxes. To insert the title across hundreds of articles would require a WP:RFC. Personally I see no need for the title, why state the obvious and say a king has the title almost universally used by kings or an emperor has the title used by emperors? In the rare case a royal uses a unique title, that title could be added but that should be decided on a case-by-case basis. Векочел (talk) 00:31, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary, as you did at Rampura, Jalaun. - Arjayay (talk) 18:38, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at Orai, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Arjayay (talk) 18:39, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

  • Arjayay, the edits on the Indian cities were removing unused parameters from the template. If they are not being used to give info about their articles, then they are really just clutter. The article on Osman II describes him as a caliph, whereas it is redundant to say so because Ottoman sultans are caliphs anyways. I have been editing on this wiki for 4 years, this is the first time someone accuses me of vandalism. Векочел (talk) 22:55, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
NO, unused parameters are not "clutter", as they do not appear in the article itself. They are just currently unused parameters that provide reminders of, and a template for, additional information which can/should be added.
Deleting them means that an editor may not add useful information, or that they have to go to the template page to retrieve the deleted parameters, or, very frequently, that they guess the missing parameters, and fill the template up with unsupported infobox parameters. As a general rule, please do not make edits that do not alter the appearance of the rendered page; although there are exceptions, such as hidden text. - Arjayay (talk) 10:23, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Please act responsible

One year ago you invented something with no basis and applied it without fully following the rules and moved articles for Al Saud family members. And today beacuse of your unnecessary moves all articles are again moved without the Al Saud. So please think before you do something. --Egeymi (talk) 11:53, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Al Saud

Hi Векочел

I'm curious why you have proposed the opposite move to the one you made last year, at Talk:Nayef bin Abdulaziz? The correct form of this name according to Wikipedia policies is to omit "Al Saud" from the end, as the WP:COMMONNAME in reliable sources more often omits it than includes it, and the shorter form is also more WP:CONCISE. The RM last year concluded that "Al Saud" should be removed, and all similar articles should also have it removed for consistency with that decision. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 10:36, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

See this ngram for evidence of common name. The version without "Al Saud" on the end has around 8 times as many occurrences in book sources as the version which includes it.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:38, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
  • I believe my initial judgement was wrong, there are a lot of Saudi royals and almost all have their surname in their article title. Векочел (talk) 00:09, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
That doesn't matter though. What matters is Wikipedia policy and what is commonly reported in reliable sources. After the successful move last year, we should have moved other articles to follow suit. Consistency is good, and we can achieve it if we move all the other articles, but as I say it should be consistency that reflects the real world usage, as determined by sources, not just inserting extra words for the sake of it.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
See also your own comment here: [3] - this specifically addresses why the shorter names are correct according to policy, now you're saying your "initial judgement was wrong"? No, that was entirely the correct judgement, and I'm unclear why you'd now argue against policy. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 10:59, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
My judgement was wrong because a convention has developed to use "Al Saud" for the Saudi royals, to not use the surname for Omani royals, to use it again in Kuwait, etc. Векочел (talk) 14:30, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Ptolemies' epithets

I see that you've been working on the articles on the Ptolemies lately. In almost every way, I think what you are doing is excellent, so of course I'm writing to raise the one small thing that I'm less keen on, which is the removal of epithets. At times, I think removing the epithets makes it more difficult to read the text, since one is confronted with a mess of VIs, VIIIs, IXs, etc. which all look visually quite similar. So, I'd ask you to reconsider removing them as a default. As I say, it's just a small point and I'm genuinely just raising it as a point of view, not insisting that you agree. Thanks! Furius (talk) 21:29, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

  • It's confusing regardless of what system you use. If it's better to use epithets for the Ptolemies, then we will run into Ptolemy I Soter and Ptolemy IX Soter. It's confusing to give so many French kings the name Louis or in Britain to have two contemporary monarchs called Queen Elizabeth. I don't think that this issue is something unique to the Ptolemies. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:33, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Japanese Emperors

I'm not sure why you are removing the link to the table of spouses in the articles. These early Japanese Emperors had only one spouse and the rest were concubines, by definition here is the difference:

Concubinage is an interpersonal and sexual relationship between a man and a woman in which the couple does not want, or cannot enter into a full marriage.
A spouse is a significant other in a marriage.

The other think I took issue was with your removal of "Shinto" as a practicing religion. This is documented in the "Kiki" that the Early Emperors adhered to the Shinto religion. Legendary or not, if we were to go with the context I feel we should add the religion. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 22:20, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

We can keep the religion if they are so strongly associated with Shinto, but the emperors strictly had only the empresses as their spouses and the infobox can get cluttered by listing all the concubines. Векочел (talk) 22:30, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
(ec) My apologies, most of the edits you did were helpful and it was confusion on my part (I undid a bunch of my reverts having to do with spouses). I still think "Shinto" should be included in religion though per the traditional narrative. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 22:32, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Post-nominals

While I don't necessarily disagree with removing post-nominals from the ledes of bios and leaving them in the infoboxes, I don't see any rationale for such deletions at WP:POSTNOM and I believe deleting the post-nominals would be something that affects a lot of biographies across Wikipedia; you should thefore seek a strong consensus at a central location before proceeding further, if, indeed, you had plans to. MIESIANIACAL 17:58, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, it's MOS:POSTNOM, and I'm referring to the fourth paragraph. When an individual holds a large number of post-nominal letters or seldom uses them (common among heads of state and members of royal families), they should be omitted from the lead, and the titles only described in the main body of the article. Autopatrolled granted

Hi Векочел, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account for three months, after which you can apply to have it permanently extended. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Chetsford (talk) 05:04, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

"then President"

Hello! I've been told that you object to this context in image captions on the grounds that the figures are well know? That would make sense if it just said "President" so what was being communicated was the position, but "then President" is communicating context about a specific time period. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:19, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Personally I think it's redundant to say "then president" because I expect the reader to assume the caption would read "former president" for a picture of a president taken after they left office. But I have no problem at all with wording the caption as then president. Векочел (talk) 16:42, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Wouldn't we normally have no title just a linked name in that case? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 01:54, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
I don't think the specification is necessary in this case. I would rather have the caption read "Barack Obama" then specify his title. I think he is prominent enough to be widely known, and in case someone has never heard of him there is no trouble with providing a link to the article on Barack Obama. My preference would be the same for other US and UK leaders like Biden and Johnson. However, if you guys want to specify their title, I won't fuss. Векочел (talk) 13:58, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Page moves of monarchs

I mentioned you in this discussion. I tried to ping you, but wasn't able to find all the letters in your name. GoodDay (talk) 17:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Next time, copy and paste for simplicity. There is much argument to be had over the page names, that is what the move discussions are for, but I will try to summarize my stance here. There is no need for of country when there is no ambiguity over the page name. (In fact, I personally believe the article on the current British king should have the country name added because there are multiple Charles III's of considerable stature.) Anyway, I have noticed editors opposed to these moves saying the page moves are "sad" rather than appealing to Wikipedia policy. The editors supporting these moves, however, do generally appear to base their support votes based on Wikipedia policy. Векочел (talk) 21:47, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Stop!

Simple direct links are preferred. Do not remove pipes to them. - UtherSRG (talk) 13:37, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

@UtherSRG I was puzzled why you reverted Векочел's changes. What about WP:NOPIPE and MOS:NOPIPE? Rosbif73 (talk) 14:11, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
These need to be handled individually, and not in bulk. There are times to use pipes, and there are times not to. This user doesn't appear to be making that distinction. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:16, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
UtherSRG, I have found it is generally preferable to use a redirect than piping to the main article. Is there any test you use to decide when a pipe is needed and when it's not? I am going with what MOS:NOPIPE says, as Rosbif pointed out. Векочел (talk) 19:12, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
WP:NOPIPE is a how-to guide, not a definitive policy. You were unpiping without any seeming rationale for picking and choosing. If piping were something that shouldn't ever be, someone would write a bot, remove all pipes, and disable pipes being something that can be used. Sometimes redirects should be used; sometimes pipes should be used. Wikipedia:Piped link#Use shows there are valid uses for pipes. Can you say you were checking each pipe usage to see that they were appropriate to be unpiped and were not one of the valid uses? That seems unlikely given how fast you were doing the unpipings. - UtherSRG (talk) 23:02, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
WP:NOPIPE is a guide, but it doesn't say anything that resembles "Simple direct links are preferred. Do not remove pipes to them." It actually makes it clear that redirects are generally preferable to unnecessary piped links.
The script that Векочел is using converts links of the form B into links of the form B if B is a valid redirect to A, or if A and B both redirect to some other page C. The result is a link that has the same target and displays the same text as the original. I do agree that caution is advisable, and there are cases where exceptions may reasonably be made.
@UtherSRG: you reverted about a hundred of Векочел's edits in about ten minutes. Did you check each example to see that they were actually at fault? Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 15:55, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

Category:Monarchs diagnosed with cancer

Hello, Векочел,

If a category has been tagged for speedy deletion as an empty category (CSD C1), there is really no good reason to take it to CFD for a week-long discussion. It will be deleted more quickly as a CSD C1, while CFD nominations can sometimes last weeks and what are editors going to debate about an empty category? It's unnecessary and I hope you will stop this practice. Only start CFD discussion about categories where a discussion would be fruitful. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:09, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

February 2024

To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 05:02, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Векочел,
Please leave an edit summary with every edit you make. This is especially important with the dozens of page moves you are doing recently where it's not clear why you are moving the articles to different page titles. If you leave a brief explanation, particularly one based in policy, it's less likely that your edit will be reverted because your fellow editors will understand why you made the edit you did. It really takes just a few extra sentences so please take an extra minute and leave an explanatory edit summary. It's good practice on the platform. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:04, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to join New pages patrol

Hello Векочел!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

  • In most cases the religion of these royals is simply not notable. We don't list the religion for Queen Elizabeth II's three younger children or for Charles III's sons, for instance. Векочел (talk) 19:52, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
In cases like Catherine Jagellon, her religion is a vital detail, yet you removed it twice there also. I've now fixed that twice. Please slow down, at least read articles you wish to change, and be more careful! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:44, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

@Векочел Would you mind helping User:CtasACT by going through all the references on the above mentioned article and also ensuring whether they meet Wikipedia's policy or not. The GA review is taking place at-Talk:Haile Selassie/GA2. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help. Regards MSincccc (talk) 13:54, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Please stop doing this! Nobility and royalty are not the same thing. I would think you knew that before going about all those faulty changes?! SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:20, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Royalty is a subset of nobility. Indeed Category:Royalty on Wikipedia is a subset of Category:Nobility. Векочел (talk) 19:22, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
That is not correct. Read the articles, be enlightened and stop doing this! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

You are doing a lot of damage with changes like this. Unless you go back and fix those articles, we are heading for serious trouble. It is far more relevant that these people are the children of monarchs than any other less relevant titles. SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:36, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

A prince regnant is a type of monarch. Векочел (talk) 19:40, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes, I do know that. That's not what I wrote to you about. Read it again and fix your errors! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:53, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
The page Elizabeth II is already under Category:Daughters of kings. (I did not categorize it.) What is the point of removing a category when it helps to disambiguate? As for the pages which I placed in Swedish nobility, I will have a second look. Векочел (talk) 20:04, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
You are changing categories from helpful ones to much less relevant ones when you make changes like the one I linked to at the top of this talk section. Understand? It is far more relevant that these people are the children of monarchs than any other less relevant titles. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 18:14, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Categorization states “Each categorized page should be placed in all of the most specific categories to which it logically belongs. This means that if a page belongs to a subcategory of C (or a subcategory of a subcategory of C, and so on) then it is not normally placed directly into C.” So it would appear that User:Векочел is correct in moving to the more specific subcategory, since Category:Sons of princes regnant is a subcategory of Category:Sons of monarchs. It’s the same reason why Princess Astrid of Belgium is categorized under Category:Daughters of kings, not Category:Daughters of monarchs. 170.76.231.175 (talk) 19:59, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Mothers of monarchs

For the most part, I think the categories are, at least in theory, supposed to be limited to women who lived to see their children become monarchs. At the very least, that's the philosophy I was using when considering adding them to the category. 98.228.137.44 (talk) 21:47, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

In history, whoever was the mother of a monarch is counted as such whether or not she lived to see the monarch's reign. It's the monarch's relationship to her that's most relevant. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:08, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Your nominations are spurious. Being found disruptive months after creating categories is not a valid reason for deleting them. Please close your nominations immediately. I have commented on the first one, but frankly, a wholesale listing like that is also bordering on the disruptive. ——Serial Number 54129 17:20, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for that Векочел, I respect that. As a compromise, let's leave that one open (I will adjust my comment) and see if it gains traction; I could always be wong... Thanks again. ——Serial Number 54129 17:26, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Disruptive editing

Please do not remove any more images of the Japanese Emperors without establishing a consensus to do so. In many cases there are no contemporary depictions in existance which is akin to Christopher Columbus where a visual is helpful to the reader when it's referenced by historians. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 16:28, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

  • Columbus's portrait, at least, was painted relatively shortly after his death. The pictures of Japanese emperors which I removed were drawn hundreds of years after the subjects lived. Векочел (talk) 19:44, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Tony Blair shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.   Hello! I'm EmilySarah99. Your recent edit(s) to the page Mary II appear to have added incorrect information, so they have been reverted for now. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Mary was heir apparent during her joint reign. If her husband were to die, she would continue reigning as sole monarch. This is stated on the category page. EmilySarah99 (talk) 11:09, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Category:19th-century kings of Italy, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Please dont massively add categories like this Mason (talk) 04:22, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Please review how categories work before you massively add religions. This is a case of overcategorization. You should add these categories to the individual pages, not the the category. Mason (talk) 04:36, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
