Earl Witte
- ... that in one of Earl Witte's few NFL games, he threw Bronko Nagurski to the ground and hit a player so hard that the player "stopped, curled up and dropped to the ground as if he had hit a stone wall"? Source: [1] (for the Nagurski and stone wall part) five games
- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Montagu Island
- Comment: I could make an alt hook to remove Nagurski; but I thought it kind of relevant as Nagurski's one of football's all-time greats (and known for being strong and large).

- article is long enough, promoted to GA 10 days prior to nomination here, and meets all relevant policies. Regarding the hook, it is interesting but it would be good for some context on who Bronko was (maybe Hall of Famer or something like that). QPQ is done. BeanieFan11, ping me when you have a new ALT for me to review. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:46, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: I don't think I'd be able to add "Hall of Famer" to Nagurski as the hook is already just under the length limit - can you think of any other way it could add context but not be too long? BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:28, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- ALT1: that in one of Earl Witte's few NFL games, he hit Hall of Famer Bronko Nagurski so hard that Nagurski "stopped, curled up and dropped to the ground as if he had hit a stone wall"? BeanieFan11, here is a possibility. What do you think? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:52, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: It was two different players involved in the hook: Nagurski was thrown to the ground, whereas Gene Ronzani "stopped, curled up and dropped to the ground as if he had hit a stone wall". BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:57, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hmmm... I can't think of any way to get both mentioned in appropriately, so maybe we should go a different route. Maybe ALT2: ... that NFL player and quarterback Earl Witte once hit a player so hard that the player "stopped, curled up and dropped to the ground as if he had hit a stone wall"? BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:59, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- That works for me, but shouldn't it be back, not QB? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:34, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: I was thinking ALT2 because I found it more interesting that someone who was once a quarterback (QB in 1931) would hit another player that hard versus a plain back. (Explanation: doesn't seem like he was QB at the time, looks like he was running back / defensive back then, but I worded it so it still seems to check out - i.e. it says he was an "NFL player and quarterback", as opposed to ... that NFL quarterback... (saying he was an NFL quarterback) - it mentions that he played in the NFL and was a quarterback, but not both at once) If QB doesn't work, then I'd suggest ALT3 ... that in one of NFL player Earl Witte's only games, he hit a player so hard that the player "stopped, curled up and dropped to the ground as if he had hit a stone wall?" Thoughts? BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:46, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

for ALT3, the cleanest and most straightforward. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:48, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thinking about it, that's probably best. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:00, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
