Yves HerouxYves Héroux – The title suppose to rename Yves Héroux to include the acute accent e to match the other article Alain Héroux (his older brother). Steam5 (talk) 04:48, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dolovis and Ohms law, please do not oppose the move. On the other article, his brother Alain Héroux is named included the acute accent (é) on the title. The brothers are French Canadians. Steam5 (talk) 21:48, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • WP:UE most certainly does not preclude the use of diacritics, and as I've pointed out to Dolovis before, it is not an inviolable guideline that trumps any other naming convention. There are a good many classes of articles where, for a variety of reasons, we use something other than "the most common name in English-language sources": we title most plant and animal species with their Latin scientific names rather than their common ones to preclude debate over British vs. American English spelling; we title radio and television stations with their legal call signs rather than their on-air brand names to preclude confusion over stations with the same branding and/or stations which change their branding; we frequently use alternate titles, sometimes even uncommon or quirky ones like fixed-wing aircraft instead of "airplane" or "aeroplane", as compromises when different dialects of English have different names or different spellings for the same thing. Accordingly, WP:UE is not the ultimate override clause; it's actually subordinate to other considerations, such as project-specific naming conventions that have consensus and legitimate reasoning behind them. Dolovis and Ohms, if you disagree with WP:HOCKEY's existing consensus, you certainly have the right to propose a new naming convention for discussion at the project level — but as long as that convention still exists, it takes precedence over your unsupported interpretations of WP:UE, not vice versa.
