Changing the story

edit

I am changing the story of the game. It doesn't take place immediately following the events of the previous X-Men Legends game. I'm going to clean it up a bit to make more sense and actually be relevant to the game's.

I'm also adding notes about some of the differences with the Marvel Age of Apocalypse storyline and this game's. (Such as the existence of Professor X for one.) And I'm linking to the AoA Wiki page. If someone with more knowledge of the subject would like to jump in and add some notes that would be great as well, of course keeping in mind that an AoA page already exists that we don't need to re-create.

Characters section added

edit

I'm also moving the character information from the "Story" section and giving it it's own section.

There should also be a section there for support characters (Such as Forge, Beast, Angel, et. al.) But right now I don't know who all of them are. If anybody knows before I look them up, then feel free to add them.

Differences

edit

Should there be a section mentioning the differences between the versions (besides extra characters)? --DrBat 23:17, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

handheld version & console version

edit

There should be 2 versions for Handheld verison PSP and console version. They shouldn't be linked together. If they are the information should be sepearted.

>x<ino 13:25, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have cleaned up this article pretty well
I have added the following section:
Special Teams: this section will be made up of a table, it will be about the special teams, like Femme Fatal, Age of Apocalype & New Xmen (do you get me!?). The table will list out teams and characters to use get them.
Online & Multiplayer: explaining about the console, pc and handheld verision. If they are online or not
Ratings: Just ratings from top sites like IGN, GAMESPOT & IUP.

>x<ino 09:27, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will play the game, which means I will work on the Special Team section this week!

>x<ino 02:02, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Game guides - like a list of Special Teams and how to get them - belong on GameFAQs, not Wikipedia. The other stuff describes how the game plays and what impact it had, so it should stay, but lists of in-game details aren't emcyclopedic. -Sean Curtin 07:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

list of in-game details an't unencyclopedic!?

So...if I list out the weapons, that is unencyclopedic...

Then that means other article contain details of the in-game are also no unencylcopedic!
ANyway, thank god, I don't have to play the game again. I can keep on playing Spartan:P

>x<ino 09:01, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
whether or not there should be a list of characters is somewhat debatable, but lists like that are certainly game guide material. DurinsBane87 04:35, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Characters

edit

Good work on the work we have done to this stub article!

For the character section, I have managed to clean up the left over "villains". Instead of me deleting that part, I added it to the character table.

But I am thinking, why don't we give in more details to the villain sections. Like explain:

  • The Apocolyse horsemen villains
  • Stepford Cuckoos

Do you get what I am saying!?

>x<ino 02:24, 30 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

To whom ever added the Special Team table, GREAT WORK. I know that must have taken ages. But other wiki members are right, it is like a game guide, it's better of at GameFaQs.

But I think we might need the names!

edit

Thanks 86.29.30.69, for adding this info: Additionally, having certain people in your team before a boss fight will also give an easter egg of the team member required & the boss having a dialogue before the regular text comes up. Such occurances are Iceman & Grizzly, Wolverine & Deathstrike, Jean Grey & Archangel, and Deadpool & Deadpool (Once he as been unlocked). I did notice it in the game, but forgot to add that kind of info to this article, was blinded.

But I an't to show about the Deadpool and Deadpool. Once you unlock a charcater you can't really play the boss fights again:/

>x<ino 18:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's not completely true. When you beat the game, it asks if you want to save over the settings with your newly unlocked data. If you choose yes, and then start a new game, it asks if you wish to use the default settings, or the settings from a saved game. Thus, if you go through the game a second time, you can do the boss battles again. I haven't actually seen Deadpool talk with Deadpool, but it is possible that it could happen. Aericanwizard 20:32, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's definitely possible. I've seen the sequence. If I could, I'd provide the dialogue, but unfortunately, I don't remember it anymore. StrikerOmega 14:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cinematic production

edit

What company worked on the high quality cinematics for this game? It looks vaguely similar to Blur Studio's work on "City of Villians." --Navstar 14:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

PC Requirements

edit

I was wondering if there should be a computer requirements section. This page seems to be really console driven, so I am not sure if it is appropriate? Also, perhaps some editing/modification and skinning information. --Drathy 20:37, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hex Editing

edit

The PC version of the game allows for a whole new selection of customizable characters. Through hex-editing, characters such as Dazzler, Polaris, and Quicksilver are also playable. Please stop removing the hex-editing link from the External Links section as it is the most useful and comprehensive information page on the X-men Legends 2 game. Thank you. Character Question

edit

Why are there characters that are only available for a certain platform? You have to get the N-Gage version just to get Beast. It's unfair. They'll do anything just to force you to get each version.

Developers tend to put in different exclusive characters to help marketing. They can't really advertise a character as exclusive if he's on half of the systems, and convincing some console manufacturers to put up with a version without exclusives when the others have exclusives is very difficult. The solution is to give out a fair spread of different exclusives. They aren't expecting you to buy a new console for this game; if they were, they'd only ship on the one system that gave them the best share of the profits.

XML2 PSP Voices & Sounds during gameplay + Size of the PSP Version

edit

That is really weird. There's no voices & sounds since my first gameplay in PSP Version. How do we fix those. I forgot, how much size is the Full Version of PSP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ScottKazama (talkcontribs) 03:02, 21 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

There are voices and sounds, you have to use the original UMD disc for the game, you cannot use a CSO file. --Teancum (talk) 16:27, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Prose
  • Players choose a team of up to four characters from a larger group of characters. As players proceed through the game additional characters are unlocked. - That just sounds really clunky. I'd rephrase.
  • On the console versions up to four players can play on one machine cooperatively, with the ability to add or remove players at any time. The game also features online play for up to four players, a first for the series. - I would specify what features the PC version has more explicitly, since you single out the consoles.
  • I'd suggest reorganizing the gameplay section to focus less on iterations and changes since the first game and make the article stand a little more on its own. People aren't necessarily going to have read about the first game. Things like explaining X-Men ("superhero team or whatnot") when they first come up would make a nice difference.
  • players can upgrade their four main powers and other abilities unique to that character. - You probably need to make sure you're being consistent about referring to the player, or the players characters. In this case I'd think the latter is better since you aren't dealing with a single player character.
  • Biographies of the X-Men and their enemies can be accessed on computers located in the mansion. What mansion? What's the Danger Room?
  • Upon freeing him, the teams relocate to Genosha to work through the wreckage - is what happened in Genosha part of the first game's events? If so why does it ask what apocalypse wanted in the area? When was he there? Why is the explanation for what these locations are only given in the development section (Savage Land, etc.) but not here?
  • Angel is transformed into Archangel to act as a Horseman of Apocalypse, to defend Apocalypse's tower. - Someone who hasn't read the comics isn't going to know that Angel becomes an agent of Apocalypse necessarily, reading the above; I'm also unsure if the transformation is willing or not (like in the comics).
  • Karthik Bala, CEO of Vicarious Visions felt strongly that the PSP version should have the same gameplay as the consoles. "One of our main goals [...] was to really bring the depth and detail of the console game over to portable form on the PSP." - but, according to the gameplay element, this isn't what happened (unless the PSP gameplay is different from another handheld's.)
Comprehensiveness
  • The lead could probably be expanded to give a little about development.
  • I assume the units sold on Xbox is the only sales figure we've got?
  • Since there's a fair amount of reception in the article, I'd suggest rewriting the lead to focus on the various aspects of the game, rather than reciting each critics' thoughts one after another.
References
  • Sources look fairly good; you might have to defend Joystiq at FAC but I think it meets GA criteria. Have not done any spot-checks yet.
Media
  • File:X-Men Legends II.jpg could use a more descriptive and strengthened fair use rationale on how its use is essential. If you've got an image illustrating a specific point of critical commentary, that might be the best option.

LLLStill working on this, I presume? Not trying to heckle, just trying to keep myself on task with reviews :) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 16:16, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'd say I'm pretty done at this point. I'm not sure exactly how to reword the lead to better summarize the Reception section per your comments above. Can you be a bit more specific on what you want? I typically write the lead like this article, so I need help thinking out of the box. --Teancum (talk) 14:47, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • I've done a copyedit of the article; with your changes I think the prose is fine now. As for the reception section, an example of what I'm talking about is the reception section for Halo Wars. I generally use the first paragraph to give general comments, aggregate reviews, and basic critical commentary; the following paragraphs break down each aspect of commentary, like gameplay, audio/visuals, plot, etc. If you have any more questions you can let me know. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 17:51, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ok passing as GA. Thanks for your work in improving the article. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 19:07, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
