Modi's family
editI think an article on Modi's family (mother and brothers) is needed. Modi has maintained minimal or no contact with them, which is significant.
Incidentally the age at which they were married is disputed. Malaiya (talk) 02:57, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Notability is not INHERITED. Unless they have done something significant, they should not have an article on Wikipedia. Primefac (talk) 07:19, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- They are notable because they have been widely discussed, and their relationship (with remarkable detachment) with Narendra Modi is quite significant. Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi hasn't done much significant either, however it is her relationship with Narendra Modi that has been widely discussed and thus made her notable. Same is applicable for Jawaharlal Nehru's Wife, Barrak Obama's mother, father and other relatives, and many other individuals. The little Prince George of Cambridge hasn't done much yet, but is royal and cute and thus notable. Malaiya (talk) 01:30, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi → Jashodaben – why add husband name? -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 03:15, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
- Support per WP:UCN. The proposed name is vastly more common in sources and it already redirects here. (BTW, one American source gives her name as "Jashodaben Chimanlal Modi".[1]) — AjaxSmack 15:36, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure it is excessively detailed
editI don't think the article is excessively detailed. It seems very comprehensive to me. Who put that template on the article? — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 19:29, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Winged Blades of Godric: Looks like you added that template. Why? — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 20:41, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- My goodness. And, I need to find the editor who managed to confuse writing an encyclopaedic article with penning down a hagiography. This needs a monstrous cleanup, to say the least...Read the Representative section for an example. ∯WBGconverse 06:50, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- I mean the entire article is ridiculous and a trivia-bloat.∯WBGconverse 07:06, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Vanamonde93 and Sitush:--You may wish to take a look, since I will be largely offline for the best week or so...../∯WBGconverse 07:09, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Jashodaben → Jashodaben Modi – WP:UCN, and even our article itself uses the last name Modi for her yet the page inexplicably only uses her first name. Thrashunreality (talk) 19:36, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support: She has made very clear requests to have her surname be recognized, and although it seems fully accepted that her claim to it is legitimate, some appear to want to avoid recognizing her name for political reasons. —BarrelProof (talk) 02:29, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- On the other hand, a lot of sources just refer to her as "Jashodaben" without clearly attaching a surname, although it is usually in the context of discussing her marriage to someone named Modi, and actually, Modi was also her surname, or at least part of her surname, even before her marriage. —BarrelProof (talk) 03:57, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Picture uplodaded 26 March 2020
editA picture, File:Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi.jpg, was uploaded by NarendraModi1991 at 05:35, 26 March 2020 (UTC), identifying the picture as the user's "own work". The picture was removed from the article a few days later by another editor. Is that actually a picture of Jashodaben? Is it a copyright violation? Who is the other person in the picture? —BarrelProof (talk) 06:13, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Jashodaben Modi's age at marriage
editUntil an IP editor changed it, the article said:
- Their traditional child marriage was arranged in Vadnagar by their families. The couple was married around 1963, following a religious ceremony (vivaha) when she was about 11 and Modi was about 14.[1][2][3]
- The NDTV source says: "Jashodaben got married to Mr Modi in 1968 aged barely 17 years."[1]
- The Indian Express source says: "But Jashodaben, 62, a retired school teacher who was married to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi when she was 17" and "We married when I was 17".[2]
- The Caravan source says (on page 2): "His parents had arranged him a marriage in keeping with the traditions of the Ghanchi caste in Vadnagar, which involved a three-step process that began with an engagement at age three or four, a religious ceremony (shaadi) by the age of 13, and cohabitation (gauna) around the age of 18 or 20, when the parents felt the time had come. Modi was engaged to a girl three years younger than him, Jashodaben Chimanlal, from the neighbouring town of Brahamanwada. They had completed shaadi when Modi was only 13, Sombhai told me."[3]

The change the IP editor made was from 11 to 12. But this is not supported by the sources cited. Two of the sources cited would support her age at marriage as 17, and one supports her age at the time of the religious ceremony (shaadi) as 10 (since Modi was 13 at the time and his wife was 3 years younger, she must have been 10).-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:48, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- Possibly they were betrothed around age 11-13 and married around age 17-18: just guessing. Anyway, right now the article sounds overly repetitive in these two sentences which could perhaps be combined into one: "According to Narendra Modi's brother, the couple had undergone vivaaha, the religious ceremony of Marriage when Narendra Modi was 18 and Jashodaben was about 17. (new paragraph) A marriage ceremony was held to begin their married life together when she was 17 and he was 18." Possible new version: "A marriage ceremony, described by Narendra's brother as vivaaha, was held to begin their married life together when she was 17 and he was 18." Toddy1, why do you say she was 3 years younger? Apparently one was 17 and one 18, so that's not possible. ☺Coppertwig (talk) 23:16, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- I can't seem to find anything in the source "The Emperor Uncrowned" about her or the marriage; if it's there can someone explain exactly where? ☺Coppertwig (talk) 21:52, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
