  • ... that cozy games became a common term following the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Source: 'it became a more common term following the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' - from the cozy game article itself.

    • Comment: Sorry if this DKY nomination is bad and cannot word the source and hook properly. It is my first nomination. And since I am not at five nominations yet, I am not required to review another article. Also, this is just inside the seven day period btw.

Indeed. Thanks for pinging Juniper Hill. I'm out on holiday in London for a week so I don't believe I could get to it. Andrzejbanas (talk) 02:33, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Genre vs. gameplay element

edit

While a recent source added does discuss "coziness" as a game play element, that does not deny that more modern and contemporary sources have expanded onto it as a genre itself. It has since had several publications discussing it as its own genre and how the games are identified. Finding an article form 2018 does not dictate that the style has come into its own as a genre since then (see the later articles form 2020) and the more contemporary sources back this up. Please don't change it again without discussion. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:07, 22 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Assuming cozy game is a genre, could you elaborate what specific gameplay elements separate it from other genres? I don't have the bandwidth to go through multiple references, so it would help if you could filter it down to the gist of it. Almost all examples of "cozy games" fall into either the farming sim / walking sim or related genres afaik, with PC Gamer specifically mentioning that whether cozy gaming refers to a genre or a gameplay element is a gray area. However, going by the definition of video game genre here on Wiki, I'm strongly inclined to believe cozy game is not a genre. So either the cozy game article needs to be changed, or the video game genre one. As for reverting, I don't intend to unless there's a resolution to this. Thanks. --CoolingGibbon (talk) 16:30, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Specifically the 2020 Gameindustry.biz and the Game Developer from 2022 and 2024 go into this, but whether your personal beliefs are here are there doesn't really matter because I stuck to the most recent sources on this. As for the wiki, the article you suggested states "informal classification of a video game based on how it is played rather than visual or narrative elements." In this case, the articles do go into specific gameplay elements which is already mentioned in the article. If you don't have time to read the article on hand as you suggested (there are only about 5 sources) I don't really understand why you made a grand sweep to change intro against the sources within the article. Alright so I assume your argument is based on these specific sources, correct? I'll go through them and see if there any differing opinions.

It's true I don't have time to go through all the articles posted on this page, and frankly I don't think that's necessary. All I need to understand is your rationale for reverting my changes. Hence my request for clarification.
Furthermore, I'd hardly consider the changes I made to be sweeping, especially when I mentioned the recent PC gamer article which categorically states that the term "cozy game" is a gray area. (Ref: Link) Regardless, I'll go through the specific articles you mentioned and see if I can come up with some of my own. Thanks. --CoolingGibbon (talk) 21:15, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cozy games category

edit

I was trying to ensure that this article will be placed on top of the cozy games category so sorry if anyone in the watchlist is wondering why I made a few edits on this. It took me a few tries to get it right as I'm not the best with categories. I would also note that I created that category. JuniperChill (talk) 14:02, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
