2008 Malaysian general election was a Social sciences and society good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake. | ||||||||||

60 days
editMany sources prove the election must be held within 60 days. [1][2] --Aleenf1 11:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- A better source would be the constitution itself. I believe it is mentioned under Article 55. __earth (Talk) 12:24, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Kelantan
editI presume all the BN controlled states except Sarawak are going to have their elections too? [3] But does anyone know if PAS plan to dissolve the Kelantan state assembly? Nil Einne (talk) 15:35, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. I saw it over TV. __earth (Talk) 16:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

State elections
editShould we make separate articles for the state elections? Maybe we could do something like: Peninsular Malaysia state elections, 2008, and Sabah state election, 2008. Its separated coz, Peninsular states always have their elections simultaneously, while in Sabah and Sarawak, their elections are sometimes held at different times. See also: {{Malaysian state elections}} kawaputratorque 01:31, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Not practical, considering we'll inevitably have to manage three/four articles (one on the GE, one on the peninsular and one or two on East Malaysia). The GE is basically the election in the peninsular, and the East Malaysian elections, intended to take place in separate timelines, is outside the timetable of the actual GE. Having two/three (one on the GE, one on the peninsular, and one or two on East Malaysia) from the current setup is more than enough. We'll be expecting more intensive edits in the coming weeks, and some centralisation helps to maintain consistency, reduce repetition and provide more visible space to contribute stuff. - Two hundred percent (talk) 10:41, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps. But i've started the Sabah state election, 2008 page anyway. I was thinking that we could leave this page for the parliamentary elections, and create a separate page for the state assembly elections, like suggested above. I may be willing to do that. Or else, we'll just put everything here. See how it goes. kawaputratorque 12:01, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, the current parliamentary-East M'sia split is fine as it is. - Two hundred percent (talk) 10:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Opposition in media
editI changed the statement here [5] as the reference does not say the opposition are barely mentioned in a positive light. It quotes one random person who says most references are negative but that is the view of one random person. However the reference does say that the opposition is barely mentioned in the government controlled media which is what I have changed it to say Nil Einne (talk) 09:02, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Could the uploader (will noticy directly later) or some willing person verify the copyright status of the document? I know it's meant to be freely distributed, but Wikipedia won't go easy on an upload that doesn't even have a copyright status tag at all. - Two hundred percent (talk) 10:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- the copyright is ambiguous, so I've just link it to the site. hopefully ALL of the links will stay up for the next 5 years. erwinkarim (talk) 06:36, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- You may want to use [6] which is a permanent link to Manifesto if necessary. It may be helpful to submit anything else which you feel needs to be archived. It is generally acceptable to use an archiving source to cite a missing source, see Wikipedia:Citing sources for details Nil Einne (talk) 07:59, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

- RTM ads --Aleenf1 10:07, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- The site itself doesn't say it's official. If it were official, I imagine it would have a .gov.my address. Johnleemk | Talk 19:29, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not agree with Johnleemk, url not usually suppose to be .gov.my, anyway, no objection if the site deleted. --Aleenf1 04:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- In the past several days, there have been editions that included various sites like pru12.com, http://www.mypolitician.com.my, etc at various pages that do not direct relate to the election like at Politics of Malaysia or Ong Ka Ting. I've come to consider these links as spam. There are a lot of sites that share the same function as pru12.com and therefore, we have to be careful calling specific links as "official sites". __earth (Talk) 06:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've added in http://pru12.spr.gov.my/spr/ - it is linked from SPR's site, so I assume that it's official. Don't know the connection with pru12.com though.– Matthew A. Lockhart (talk) 09:18, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Tone
editThe tone of this article is very unencyclopaedic. This is not a place for election commentary. Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 14:22, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- It would helpful to be a bit more specific about the writing (although I believe the comment was directed at much of the additions made after the start of polling day). - Two hundred percent (talk) 06:30, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Popular Vote and Other Statistics
editWith counting now just about fully complete, there would seem to be very little chances of any changes in the popular vote statistics.
Sinchew has tabulated them here: http://www.sinchew-i.com/special/election2008/result.phtml
It's in Chinese, and I will try to the best of my abilities to match the Chinese names to the party names.Whodhellknew (talk) 23:41, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Dewan Rakyat
editDewan Rakyat is not the parliament, it is only one of the 2 houses of parliament. Dewan Rakyat should translate into House of Representatives (see the Politics_of_Malaysia wiki)
60.54.214.54 (talk) 02:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)b
"The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) formed the next state government in Kedah, after the opposition comprehensively ousted the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition. Nik Aziz Nik Mat, the party's spiritual leader and chief minister of Kelantan state confirmed the victory. Kedah's state PAS commissioner, Azizan Abdul Razak, has been sworn in as the ninth Kedah Menteri Besar."
What does this mean? Why is it up to the chief minister of Kelantan to "confirm" who will be the government of Kedah? Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 15:51, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think it was just how the papers reported or announced the news. As in he confirmed to the press. I have rewritten the paragraph anyway. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 02:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Royal interference in government formation
editShould there be a bigger section on royal interferences in government formation in the states of Perlis, and Terengganu?Wai Hong (talk) 11:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Why not? Start the ball rolling and we'll see. - Two hundred percent (talk) 02:34, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Uncontested wins
editI have deleted the tabular details on uncontested parliamentary and state seats. These were written after nomination day, but before the election itself. The list of candidates who won uncontested took a significant portion of the article, hence after the election, such details have little relevance to the general tone of this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.76.193.129 (talk) 16:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
GA Review
editOK, to find out if you really want to work for this GA (and you will, once I'm finished), do this preliminary task beforehand: Change all future and present verbs to past tense. There are a lot of verbs that are future tense, even though the events are already past. So do that before I start the review. Noble Story (talk) 08:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

It will help make the experience of writing Good Articles as non-threatening and satisfying as possible if all the participating editors would take a moment to answer a few questions for us, in this section please. The survey will end on April 30.
- Would you like any additional feedback on the writing style in this article?
- If you write a lot outside of Wikipedia, what kind of writing do you do?
- Is your writing style influenced by any particular WikiProject or other group on Wikipedia?
At any point during this review, let us know if we recommend any edits, including markup, punctuation and language, that you feel don't fit with your writing style. Thanks for your time. - Dan Dank55 (talk)(mistakes) 03:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Pakatan Rakyat
editutk pengetahuan semua, pakatan rakyat tak berdaftar dgn spr..pas, pkr dan dap bertanding guna lambang parti sendiri..
Brief translation (post above was not me) - Pakaran Rakyat (PR, People's Pact) is not an officially registered coalition/party. Their candidates use their respective party logos. PS I'm not sure how it relates to the article Khing (talk) 02:02, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
I think the point he is making is that the coalition called Pakatan Rakyat did not exist before, during and at the conclusion of this election. During the election, DAP, PKr and PAS agreed to cooperate under an informal coalition without a name (or perhaps known as Barisan Rakyat). The name Pakatan Rakyat only came into existence a few weeks after the elections. Maybe we should reflect this fact in this article. As of today, PR is still not registered with the registrar of societies as a formal coalition of political parties. Personally i think this part is not so important/notable to highlight in this article. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 12:02, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
