This entry about Betty Lee Ongley was originally composed by West Wing Writers at my request due to their volunteer efforts to increase the visibility of women on Wikipedia. After their initial draft was rejected, I have worked to add many references and whatever additional relevant material I could find. All sources are totally independent of the subject. I am not skilled at editing for Wikipedia and have found the process challenging. Some of the rejections about notability and independent sources were very surprising and did not match my understanding nor that of others who supplied me with references. Many editors have been very helpful in pointing out my mistakes which I have endeavored to fix. This entry project has been ongoing for four years, albeit very sporadically. I am hoping that with the latest award received by this amazing 97 year-old woman, there will be agreement that she is, in fact, a notable person in Michigan's history.
