Indic Script

edit

Please do NOT add any Indic script to our India-related articles, as you did at Jakkasandra, as this contravenes WP:INDICSCRIPT - Thank you - Arjayay (talk) 09:31, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

User:Sir Beluga/Style guide

edit

You asked to be notified "If any part does not agree with Wikipedia's Manual of Style"
There is no "preference" for "ize" over "ise", or any of your other spellings - it totally depends which variety of English the article is written in - please see WP:ENGVAR - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 09:37, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see. Thanks for letting me know. :) Should I delete my style guide entirely, or just edit the phrase to say that's the style I'll be using when creating a new article or something? - Sir Beluga (talk) 15:42, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Up to you if you keep it, almost no-one will ever find it - unless they look at your edit history, like I did.
Assuming there is not a "strong national tie" which would determine the variety of English, as per MOS:TIES, you just need to decide which variety of English you are using, and stick to it. It is probably best if you use whichever variety you normally use, as this should avoid mistakes. It will help later editors if you add the appropriate template, e.g. {{Use British English|date=January 2018}} or whatever variety it is, at the top,
Finally, I found your message, because I was watching your page, but generally, if you want to attract another editors attention, then you need to use a Notification - please see WP:PING. This doesn't need complex formatting, just use their username e.g. to ping me you would add [[User:Arjayay|Arjayay]] which will appear as just Arjayay - but you must add the username and sign your post in the same edit. - Good luck - Arjayay (talk) 16:00, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, and I added a section mentioning that the style of English an article is already using shall be used, but I have no intention of changing the English an article already has. I often see articles with mixed spelling and date format variations; maybe in those scenarios I could contribute with my own style of English, or otherwise switch the entire article to the variety of English the original author used, for consistency. Which is better? - Sir Beluga (talk) 18:48, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
As stated at MOS:RETAIN "use the variety found in the first post-stub revision that introduced an identifiable variety" - Arjayay (talk) 18:51, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Thierry Deuve

edit

Hi, I'm Nick Moyes. Sir Beluga, thanks for creating Thierry Deuve!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please would you add content to this page to demonstrate how this person meets our WP:NBIO criteria? Awards, significance of their entomological publications, any species named after them in their honour, or any species for which they're the author, are all things that will stop thus page being AFDed. Thanks.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Nick Moyes (talk) 23:17, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

So, not all people who have described species need their own pages? Also, I'll try to locate sources of information for the page. The original version of the page (nl:Thierry Deuve) has info but no sources, so I won't add that. - Sir Beluga 23:31, 21 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

File:2DayFM logo.svg

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:07, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Audio data

How you got the audio data for the Bavarian language? Is not that illegal to Turn You Tube clips into audios and to publish them in wikipedia. Can you show me how you did it, because I need help with adding audios to the Low Saxon articel. Westfäölsk Meyewiärker (talk) 22:15, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

video2commons is the tool I used, which can import both audio and video content. After the audio or video is imported, someone else will verify it to make sure the original was released under a free license. —Sir Beluga (talk) 06:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
