Submitting Cole Hamels for GA
I think it's ready... are you ok with submitting? I did a copyedit.
- I do not think it is ready at this point. There are still some citation needed tags, and also the season-by-season sections include some random information ... they need to be summaries. I will have some time next week if not this weekend to look at it. Go Phightins! 20:12, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, do you ever go on the IRC channel? Maybe we can collaborate there. Newyorkadam (talk) 21:17, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Newyorkadam
- As a rule, I do not use IRC except in extenuating circumstances ... I prefer discussions to take place on talk pages, especially when others are likely to contribute, namely Brambleberry of RiverClan. Go Phightins! 16:27, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Weird
I was preparing the Eddy/UserBoxes for future use and all of a sudden realized that an editor that correlates receiving the award with potential retirement is in fact in the list of accepted Awardeees...and I am the one that nominated him back in early November. HUH!!! Say what??? He was to have received an Eddy in two weeks but I have moved him to the end of the Q. I was going to remove him completely based on what I said at the WER/Eddy talk page but I thought I'd get your input just in case. Happy Holidays. ```Buster Seven Talk 16:14, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- I am not quite sure what you are saying here? About which editor are you talking? Whatever you did, I trust your judgment ... Go Phightins! 16:27, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ahh, wait. I see. Hmm. I don't know what to do there. Go Phightins! 16:28, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- My suggestion is to ask the person in question if he/she would like to receive the recognition, explaining it is for the good work described in the nomination (I would include a summary of the work, and link to the nomination so its date can be seen). It seems a bit petty to just drop the nomination, based on his commentary. Either way, the editor gets the positive feedback of someone appreciating the work, which is the key aspect. isaacl (talk) 16:37, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- I see what your saying, Isaac, and normally I would agree. But, in this case, since I am the nominator, it changes the dynamics a bit. To tell the truth, what he said at the WER/Eddy talk page did put me "off" a bit. It was only later when I realized my quandry. Plus he hasn't been removed and is still in the Q, and I will consider and formulate some future talk with him. It is kinda funny. ```Buster Seven Talk 16:47, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate there is a bit of awkwardness based on your response on the talk page. Maybe Go Phightins! can make the request on the editor's page. The nomination was seconded (though to be honest, I don't see a lot of vetting going on in these seconds, unfortunately). Recall the spirit of the recognition is that editors do not have to be perfect to be recognized; they just need to have done some excellent work, and that hasn't gone away. isaacl (talk) 16:53, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

- RE:Seconds. I'm not going to take the time to check but I would guess that more than 60% of the seconds have been by either myself or by User:Khazar2. I'm sure we both spent sufficient time in the vetting process. After I create the nomination slot on the talk page, I wait at least two weeks--hoping that other editors will get involved, do their own investigation, and second the nomination. It also allows time for editors to comment, etc. Usually, when the nomination is made, I do some preliminary vetting, just to get an "feel" for the nominated editor. If, after two weeks no editor has stepped forward to second, I dig a little deeper, and I second the nomination. Please feel free to facilitate the seconding process if you think nominees are not being properly vetted. ```Buster Seven Talk 19:52, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- It's just a little hard to tell for some instances, where not many details are given regarding the support for the nomination. But as with any initiative, participation will govern what form it takes and how it works, and the best that can be done has to be made of it. More detailed statements would involve a greater amount of invested time, and with time being a limited resource, spending it here may not be the best tradeoff overall for Wikipedia. isaacl (talk) 20:11, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. I promoted it without a picture because there are a greater proportion of approved hooks with pictures than the proportion of spaces for hooks in the prep areas (only 1 in every 6-8 hooks). I've been trying to keep a balance, as per DYK supplementary guideline J6, but it simply isn't possible for every picture hook to have its picture featured, especially with the low rate of DYK review right now. -Kieran (talk) 23:55, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- OK, I just thought the image was pretty decent, and am rather ambivalent on the matter, but thank you for your work at DYK. Go Phightins! 23:57, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

for the holidays and 2014 from a warmer place than where you probably are ;) Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:32, 22 December 2013 (UTC) |
- Why thank you, Kudpung! Although it is probably still warmer than where you are, it is supposed to be 68 (F) tomorrow, which will set a record, but then will nosedive back down below 30 for Christmas. Go Phightins! 02:33, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 22
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 New Mexico Bowl, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Air raid (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Jake Diekman
On 22 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jake Diekman, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jake Diekman attended a high school in Nebraska that did not field a baseball team, yet still made the major leagues? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jake Diekman. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Editor of the week
I don't know whether you know - or if you've done it deliberately - but Derek is off wiki and on the opposite side of the world at the moment, and I don't think is due back for several weeks. It seems a shame that he will miss his moment of glory, but you might want to try and alert him by email (I don't know whether he'll be able to pick up messages that way, but it may be worth a try). Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:45, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I had no idea - we simply go in the order in which nominations were placed in the queue, which is the order in which users were nominated (usually). Let me bring Buster7 into the discussion to see what he thinks. Go Phightins! 02:05, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- How I See It:, So far the only notification that went out is on Derek's talk page. He has not been added to the Recipients @ Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week and his "Tuesday userbox" has also not been added to the Main page or to his talkpage. I did make a "stop by and give a pat on the shoulder" type request at the WER talk page but I can easily remove that (no one pays any attention to them anyway!!!). What I'm saying is that we can put his awarding on HOLD till....whenever we see activity in his "user contributions" page. 331dot will just get an extra week as EotW. ```Buster Seven Talk 17:39, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- Or frankly, we can just leave Derek as EotW for this week and next, claiming a "holiday break" or something ... Go Phightins! 17:43, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- That's fine too and probably easiest. Derek will see it when he gets back or the next time he checks his pages. I'll add Dereks Userbox to the Main WER page and his talk later tonight. Have a Merry Christmas!```Buster Seven Talk 18:01, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- I had an email from Derek earlier in the month, suggesting that he wouldn't be back online until the latter part of January. Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:05, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

A beer for you!
Awarded being a fan of the winning team during tonight's game, which sadly is not named the Chicago Bears. I wish I was not giving this to you, but unfortunately, you win. Congrats. ZappaOMati 04:33, 23 December 2013 (UTC) |
- It was a fun game to watch (for me), but relatively meaningless - we need to beat Bagumba's Cowboys next week. Go Phightins! 04:35, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- And my Bears need to beat Church's Packers next week. Maybe we'll cross paths again in the divisional round. ZappaOMati 04:40, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- My Patriots need home-field advantage: The Broncos need to lose and we need to win. That said, the Pats are playing the Bills, so sorry guys. Now, the AFC is close for playoff contention between the Ravens, Dolphins, and Steelers. Best of luck in the NFC. Sportsguy17 (T • C) 03:49, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
- Good luck in the AFC. I still haven't forgiven your Pats for 2010, and hopefully my Bears can get revenge next season! ZappaOMati 04:09, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
- What can a Bear fan say? That was embarrassing! ```Buster Seven Talk 04:26, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
