Villa Park

Shall i just do all of them to avoid edit conflicts then you look over them. I have almost finished now anyway. :) Woodym555 11:15, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Right i have done all the fixes that i can see. I have shrunk the images as per the WP:MOS#IMAGES. This says that they must be at default size so that all screen resolutions can see them clearly. In response to the Academy question: Yes. I think it should be merged to the reserves page. Do you want to tag it and comment on the talk page? Woodym555 11:54, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
You probably should have tagged it and let people discuss it first!! We will see if anyone comments on it. It may have to be reverted if anyone seriously objects. Anyway it should be Aston Villa F.C. Reserves and Academy should it not? I think that we should go improving the quality of all the articles. The history articles need to be GA i think. Then we will push Villa Park towards FA. I think it still needs some work on it to become comprehensive and therefore fulfil WP:WIAFA. Woodym555 12:06, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually i am pretty confident it was a WP:BOLD move after looking at Manchester United F.C. Reserves & Academy. it does need to go to Aston Villa F.C. though. I will ask an administrator to revert the cut and paste move. :) Woodym555 12:26, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
I've added a few more comments. Hope they help improve the article. I think you're nearly there... The Rambling Man 07:09, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, job done, I've passed it to GA. Well done. The Rambling Man 07:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

As for FA, well the only stadium article at FA out there is City of Manchester Stadium and comparing that to Villa Park, I can't see you being far off. It's probably worth taking it to a peer review and alerting the Wikiproject what you're doing. The Rambling Man 07:41, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually the trip's pleasure, not business, this time round, but I'll have a good one anyway, thanks! The Rambling Man 07:54, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
You should archive the old contents of the peer review and explain that you now are aiming for FAC... The Rambling Man 10:12, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I've done it (easier done than said!) but you may wish to enhance my request...! The Rambling Man 10:20, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, no worries at all. In brief, I "moved" the existing page to a page with "/archive" added to the title, went to the original page and removed the redirect, adding my request for comment. I then modified the WP:FOOTBALL page to add the archived PR and point to the new one. Anyway, job done. All the best. The Rambling Man 10:38, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Villa

I would go with History of Aston Villa (1874-1966) next. It needs someunderstatement refs, a bigger WP:LEAD and those headers need to be trimmed for POV. This was a very heated topic last time so we will have to be careful with any controversial changes. last couple of sections need expanding. Needs to be checked for WP:NPOV throughout really and the prose needs a good cleanup. I will have a go once Villa Park has passed GA. I will start looking for refs tommorrow. Woodym555 18:56, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in but have you guys considered making AVFC a featured topic? I'm thinking of something similar for my lot but you're well advanced. What do you reckon? The Rambling Man 19:07, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
From my understanding of the FT criteria we need to have every article Featured or Good before nominating. Otherwise it is cherry picking. WP:WIAFT 1(d):There is no obvious gap (missing or stub article) in the topic. The history articles certainly need to be GA first. It is certainly our ultimate aim i think. Woodym555 19:13, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Same here that has always been my aim to get the articles to a FT! Everlast1910 21:44, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Good, well, by all means drop me a line if you need me to provide a third (non-Villa) eye on anything. The Rambling Man 08:11, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Image:Villa park chart.JPG

Hey, this is a good chart, but can you prepare it in .png format? That way it's small (in kb) and doesn't suffer from jpeg compression artefacts? Then we can size it quite large? Also, the full dates along the bottom would be a good idea. Let me know if you need a hand. Cheers. The Rambling Man 11:51, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm assuming you made the graph in Excel? If so then when you create it, make it a new sheet. You can usually then export it (can't remember exactly how) to a .png file which is much better. If you still have problems, point me to where you got the data from and I'll make it this evening. And in answer to how close to GA, I'd say almost there if we can nail this graph issue. The Rambling Man 12:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll be home in a couple of hours, let me try it there, I'll upload it and I'll let you know, see what you think... The Rambling Man 13:09, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay, good stuff. I think it may be because I have a Mac that save as .png is a standard option. Poxy PCs... The Rambling Man 13:20, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Okeydokey, check out Image:Villa attendance since 1947.png and see how you find it. See how it rescales in the article, perhaps make it a thumbnail image with a caption rather than introduce it in the main text. Let me know how it goes. The Rambling Man 16:35, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I've added a big break. You need to cite the prose in the same section as well. Then I think we're nearly there. The Rambling Man 18:05, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Villa history

I was working on it when you left that message. Yes i am going through and rewriting sections and referencing them. Many of them are copyvios if i am honest and are so hopelessly laden with POV. I think villa Park might need a little bit of expansion in the history and structure sections before FA. I have some info in a book that might be good. I just think that it is not talking about the actual structure of Villa Park. There is no description on it. That is the idea of the page. It is a piece of architecture and we don't get any of that. See the City of Manchester Stadium for inspiration! Anyway i will keep working on the history sections and gather some sources for Villa Park. Woodym555 22:07, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I think it should be History of Aston Villa (1874-1970). The buyout was a significant moment in the clubs history. At the moment there is no reason for the cut off. There is no logical place at the moment. It just randomly splits. (I know you were following the example of Arsenal when you did it, but they used a date significant for them). Do you agree with the change? I will do the clearup if you want. The trouble is, it might leave the History of Aston Villa (1970-Present) a bit recent heavy. That being said the success and change of that era is much more debated and sourced so there is more to work with. Woodym555 22:39, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Just about to say the same thing regarding sleep. I will give them all a good look tommorrow and leave a list in my sandbox. The articles are coming along now, still need some work though. Woodym555 23:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, i leave those things to you to update! ;) (n.b you do have full permission to mess around with my page)
At the moment I am going through the early history article and completely rewriting it. I have added citation needed tags where i cannot reference existing material. I should finish it tonight so can you copyedit tommorrow and try and find sources for the stuff i can't find? Thanks
I will update Villa Park when i have access to references, probably about a week. Now its GA, we can rest on our laurels for a week, then through the fun of FAC!! Right, back to work. Woodym555 22:38, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Updated my page now!! I have rewritten up to 1957. I have just got to rewrite the last section and then the lead. (i will do it in the morning, i am a bit sleepy now!!) It gives you a start anyway. Check that all references actually reference what they say they reference (i will check Hayes.) Check for usual cockups like wikilinks to wrong people, spelling, and then we are on our way i think. I might move some images around as well. Anyway, take a look and see what you think. Woodym555 00:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, i have asked User:The Rambling Man for some advice about the split. I am still unhappy with it at the moment. The division Three stuff should be together with the Pat Matthews and Doug Stuff. Perhaps spliting it at 1961, the League Cup win would be a good place. Once the 70 onwards article is cut down it will probably need a bit more info anyway. The second history article is quite a mess, i will have a start at it tommorrow. Woodym555 20:11, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Yep, i split it slightly more evenly and it added balance. I have only got upto Europe on the second history page. Could you make a History of Aston Villa F.C. page and then use the template of History of Arsenal F.C., dab page, very short summary of the two articles. Possibly just the first sentences of the two articles. Rambling man will take a look when he can, at the first history article to see if there are any major problems. Villa taskforce

Sorry about the length of time between replies, i have been editing the manager templates for WP:FOOTY. Taskforce: I don't really see the point to be honest. It acts as a glorifed category. The only participants would be us if i am honest and i think that our current collaborative effort is working well! Woodym555 17:27, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

List of Ipswich Town F.C. players

Hi there. I hate to 'spam' but since you've been so useful in the past and generous with your time, I've come calling again to see if you'll help review and push List of Ipswich Town F.C. players to featured list status. It's recently been completely overhauled, so I've kicked off a peer review which I'm hoping you'll contribute to. Thanks in advance, The Rambling Man 16:45, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions at the peer review. I've taken the bold step of moving the list over to WP:FLC so I'd be grateful for your support/comments etc there. Thanks again. The Rambling Man 16:17, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Just noticed you created the above's article a month ago. You didn't add any categories, so he wasn't showing up where he ought to. If you're unsure of what categories should be added, or if you need any other assistance on football articles, feel free to drop a note here. - Dudesleeper · Talk 15:14, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Villa Park

I am going to go hunting today for the last bit, but i think it is almost ready. An image of the Holte End frontage wouldn't go amiss, i will try to take one next time i am down there. Other than that i will nominate it for FAC tommorrow. The first history article is done as far as i can see. Take it to GAN whenever you want. The last half of the second history article still needs rewriting. Weekend job for moi! Woodym555 14:28, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Not quite yet, it would be shot down on the comprehensiveness criteria. It is meant to be about a building after all. I am going to go try and find some more stuff on the facilities area. I will let you know when i have finished. Should be a couple of days. Woodym555 20:29, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
As you can see, Jameboy has been adding some info from Inglis's book so we are getting there now. Will tell you when he is done and when i have finished work on the second history article. Woodym555 12:21, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

History of Aston Villa F.C. (1874-1961)

I've GA reviewed it and, I'm afraid to say, failed it for the time being. I've left a bunch of comments on the talk page so feel free to do as you will and please let me know if I can help further, or if you'd like a re-review. Cheers for now. The Rambling Man 21:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Further comments await you on the talk page. Nearly there though... The Rambling Man 18:11, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Happy, hopefully.... We'll see how this whole buy-out thing goes. Fingers crossed. As for your GA, as you may have noticed, I've suddenly developed a taste for templates and have been pursuing that lately. However, rest assured, your article is top of my list of things I have to do! The Rambling Man 22:13, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure where or when I'll stop to be honest! All English league clubs done, and I'm midway through league 1 checking links and adding the template to each manager. Scots Prem templates done and I think I need to do the rest of Scotland and probably the Conference before I'm happy...! The Rambling Man 22:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Hey there. Good news, I've finished - it's GA now. Congratulations! The Rambling Man 17:41, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

LOTD proposal

You have nominated a recently successful WP:FL. There have been two recent proposals to begin a List of the Day feature on the main page, which have both received majorities but have not been approved as overwhelming support sufficient to change the main page. WP:LOTDP is a new proposal to try to get the ball rolling based on the original proposal. You can voice your thoughts on its talk page. Basically, what the proposal entails is attempting to run an official trial, and then vote after the trial run on whether to change the main page. Support to run a trial requires much less consensus than support to change the main page. Should we succeed at eventually getting such a feature on the main page it would tentatively look like this. Whether or not you support an experimental trial or not you should come discuss the matter at WP:LOTDP's talk page. I apologize if you have either already voiced your opinion on this matter or already tired of hearing about it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:41, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Villa onward

Thankyou for voting in my RFA, i was rather humbled by the unanimous support of (58/0/0). My admin ship has now set sail and as always, if you need anything, just ask. In terms of Villa, i reckon getting the history one to GA should be our next step. I have got some facilities stuff to add to Villa Park, now that Jameboy has sorted out the referencing. I should have a Villa history book in a couple of days, so i can finish off the second Villa history article. Once we have it GA we can then go for an FA (or once i have finished referencing and expanding one, whichever comes first). Thanks again. Woodym555 11:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Frank Barson

Hey there, i have placed it on hold. There are some issues that need sorting out before it can be listed. I have left them at the talk page. You know the drill! Sorry you had to wait so long! Woodym555 00:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Not quite done yet. Left some more comments. Woodym555 17:10, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Per Wikipedia:Citing sources#When you quote someone each quote needs a source drectly after the quotation marks. There are two long quotes that need refs. I have listed them on the talk page. Woodym555 17:51, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Frank Barson

I've added a load of comments there. Let me know if I can help further. The Rambling Man 17:31, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:40, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Welcome back

Yep, my name has changed, although only slightly!! As to Villa, I am steadily improving the second Villa history page. I have a new Villa history book which has season by season records, and excellent player profiles. It has been a help on the history pages! In terms of FA, not much at the moment. See Priestfield Stadium for how we want Villa Park to look. It has recently passed FAC. We still need more on the actual structure, I am just finding it hard to locate any info on it! Anyway, I am away this weekend so will be incommunicado. Hope all is well. Woody (talk) 11:47, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
