The last comment about geography being an opposing view is erroneous: Landes makes specific mention of Europe and its rainfall being spread throughout the year as a key and unique aspect of its development.
The book however is written very much in the context of American cultural values and certainly documents the author's own conditioning- which he is depressingly unable to separate himself from.
