What happened to him after the coup d'etat? --Soman 18:49, 23 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Good question - the limited sources I've consulted on him so far have little to say about him after he was exiled from Indonesia in the 1920s, let alone after 1965. My guess would be that he laid low as much as humanly possible after Suharto came along; '65-'71 was a dangerous time to be a former communist party chairman in Indonesia, to say the least. In fact, maybe there's some interesting story about how he escaped being killed in the anti-communist purges - but I don't know. He was a pretty old guy by then, too, of course... When he returned to Indonesia in the early 1960s, Semaun distanced himself from the Communist Party (PKI) and was aligned with the Tan Malaka-inspired Murba party. Because Murba were enemies of the PKI they survived the anti-communist purges of 1965-68. Adam Malik, another Murba person, was foreign minister and then vice-president under Soeharto. Semaun and his old comrade Darsono lived in Jakarta for the last years of their lives Adrian Vickers (talk) 23:27, 13 July 2021 (UTC).Reply
