Is it about robots, bots or both?
editSo is this about robots, bots or both?
It is no different than any other automation of recording scripts that are being executed by a human. "Robotic" is spin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.161.87.14 (talk) 19:00, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
For software robots the term is "bot" hence the name should be changed if it's not also about robots.
--Fixuture (talk) 17:54, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- You can't figure this out on your own by consulting the sources provided in the article or just perform a simple web search?
- From "AI interns: Software already taking jobs from humans", "Having software agents that could take some of the simpler claims meant Barclays could employ fewer people.", "Massachusetts-based Nuance Communications is building AIs..."
- From "Blue Prism’s robotic process automation offers scope for artificial intelligence", "The “robot” in question is a software application that replicates the action of a human being interacting with a software application, such as, for example, data entry into an SAP system, or a business process." (COI WARNING: market research company consultant opinion piece)
- From "Robotic Automation Emerges as a Threat to Traditional Low-Cost Outsourcing", "...the use of software robots to handle routine business processes has another attraction..." (COI WARNING: market research company report for sale)
- From "Robotic Process Automation Opens New Doors For Finance And Risk", "Unlike their human counterparts, bots work 24 hours a day, seven days a week..."

- From "What is Robotic Process Automation, and what benefits could it bring to your enterprise?", "This is where Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with AI comes in, enabling business and IT teams in an enterprise to automate processes using a virtual software robot." (hosted on website blacklisted by Wikipedia, just Google the article name)
- From "Is Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Just Marketing Speak?", "All we’re doing here is using software automation more cleverly and then referring to the software as “software robots”."
- If the name "robotic process automation" is so widely used, should you really be changing the article title? -- DanielPenfield (talk) 09:37, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

I would please like to kindly request that our company Softomotive is also listed in the list of RPA vendors. To justify the request, I would like to add that Softomotive is also included in RPA analyst reports such as Forrester Robotic Process Automation Wave 2017 and Everest Group RPA Matrix. 164.39.212.106 (talk) 16:18, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

Insufficiently paraphrased text removal 11-MAR-2018
edit- The bulk of the removed text came from an entry made at LinkedIN:
- Apte, Gunesh (10 January 2018). "RPA Simplified!!! From Gunesh Apte, Freelance Trainer & Consultant". LinkedIN. Archived from the original on 11 March 2018.
- The link to additional removed text is here. Furthermore, if the text had been sufficiently paraphrased (which it isn't) it would still face removal, as it does not appear to originate from a WP:RS, but rather, the aforementioned LinkedIN page written by Mr. Apte.
- If the counter claim is that the LinkedIN text was merely copying from the Wikpedia page, then it becomes a chicken vs egg scenario, where we have no way of knowing (or proving) which came first. Spintendo 09:34, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

I request you to please add one more vendor under the sub-heading "RPA software vendors"
X-X-X-X
Name: Antworks Weblink: https://ant.works/
X-X-X-X
Supporting reason:
Antworks has close to 200 full time employees, and has offices in 8 countries - Australia/India/Phillipines/Qatar/Singapore/Sri Lanka/UK/US. Antworks is a specialist player in the RPA, Digitization and Enterprise Intelligence space.
I would request you to consider Antworks as a significant RPA vendor that's suitably qualified to be added to the existing list of vendors on this page. If you need external references, please refer to news and media mentions of Antworks here https://ant.works/news-and-events

Does not mention any criticisms or predicted backlash (whitewash!)
editThis is an utter whitewash. There is no mention whatsoever of expected backlash. In the “impact on society” section, both references actually predict this and discuss it, yet this article doesn’t even mention them and presents a totally one-sided narrative that this is beautifully wonderful for everyone, which is horseshit. There is a lot of criticism of this, and it is totally missing. This is definitely a NPOV issue - all references on impact are capital-siding sources (LSE and so on) and ZERO Labour voices or references that express or include their concerns or criticisms. 85.255.233.234 (talk) 15:58, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

In the section Robot Process Automation 2.0, there is an incorrect statement in the first statement of the second paragraph. The line is as such:
While Unassisted RPA has a number of benefits, it is not without drawbacks. Utilizing Unassisted RPA, a process can be run on a computer with needing input from a user, freeing up that user to do other work.
It should be changed to the following:
While Unassisted RPA has a number of benefits, it is not without drawbacks. Utilizing Unassisted RPA, a process can be run on a computer without needing input from a user, freeing up that user to do other work. Sam.helper1 (talk) 20:43, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

Artficial intelligence

Merger proposal
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was to proceed with the merge. Stonkaments (talk) 14:16, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
I propose to merge Robotic automation software into Robotic process automation (RPA). Searches on Google, Google Books, Google News, etc. for "robotic automation software" overwhelmingly return results regarding RPA, indicating that the Robotic automation software article is redundant and that Robotic process automation is the WP:COMMONNAME for the subject matter.
The source page contains a lot of content pertaining to robotization more generally, rather than robotic automation software specifically, so I propose removing the broader robotization content and only copying over the content specifically related to software. The RPA article is of reasonable size, and the software-related content in the Robotic automation software article is small enough, that the merging will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Stonkaments (talk) 17:04, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable. I'm skeptical that anything about the software itself, per se, is categorically distinct from other kinds of software. Rather, the nature of robotic process automation (which is certainly an encyclopedically distinct topic) requires some software, and some hardware, and so on, and these are natural, integrated sub-topics of that topic. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 21:41, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
Exact meaning of "Robotic Process Automation"
editHi everybody !
While translating this page to another language, we are a few contributors debating the exact meaning of "Robotic Process Automation", on a grammatical standpoint.
Does it rather imply "The automation of robotic processes" or "The robotic automation of processes" ?
I would tend to favor the latter, considering the terms "Robotic Automation" (without "Process") are used about 8 times in the article (including References and Sources).
Your opinion is more than welcome! Thanks!
Corporate talk
edit"Robotic process automation" is nothing more than the new hyped corporate-talk way of saying software automation or just automation. Also, it has nothing to do with robots or AI. The entire text is frivolous BS by marketing people trying to promote the phrase. 77.124.77.206 (talk) 10:40, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- I think the second paragraph explains the significance of it, what its distinguishing characteristics are, pretty well. I don't see how it has nothing to do with AI when it's defined as the software figuring out for itself through the application of AI to its own observations what to automate and how to automate it. Largoplazo (talk) 11:44, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah I really hate this article. Was it only written so that enough people can copy something from Wikipedia, in order to make the term stick? The amount of companies trying to insert themselves into this is telling. 2A02:810D:600:272C:D9CB:7CDA:5926:3DF5 (talk) 09:38, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
