I have literally JUST STARTED this article. I intend to add information to it during the next hour or so. It is rather stupid to suddenly decide the article should be deleted already. I really do hate what wikipedia has become. AndrewTindall (talk) 22:29, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
oh what, now political parties aren't important? even if other Pirate Parties, even the ones that aren't official parties have articles? I put it you to that the person requesting speedy deletion is biased. AndrewTindall (talk) 22:56, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks for your work. I don't think this article will be deleted. The deletion tag just means that some person thinks it should be deleted, not that it actually will. --Apoc2400 (talk) 12:21, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think the notability is well established already. There is no risk this article will be deleted. That image will probably end up getting deleted for copyright reasons. I found the same article online here. It looks like a good source for expanding the article. --Apoc2400 (talk) 20:25, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- *everything* on wikipedia gets deleted for copyright reasons. I'm surprised there's still a site here at all. Ojw (talk) 17:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

NPOV
editI'm a little concerned about this article and WP:NPOV - it does sound a lot like an advert for the Pirate Party rather than an encyclopedia article....any thoughts? I might think about a cleanup in a few days. Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 21:02, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I disagree, all it does is state policy and history. Additionally, I don't think it wise for a centre-right to be doing a "clean up" of an article of a centre-left-ish party, as it may end up drawing any disputed POV to the other side. AndrewTindall (talk) 19:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think the sentence "It is hoped that with notable numbers of voters casting their ballot for the Pirate Party UK, other parties will begin to at the very least consider the ideas presented by the Pirate Party, and ultimately even adopt some of the policies themselves" (for example) might be seen as advertising the party's ideals which is not what Wikipedia is about. There was also another paragraph, which I see you have removed before posting here, so we needn't bring that up. With regards to me performing a cleanup, I would only be "cleaning up" the article until it met WP:NPOV, rather than what I think might be fair. However, I was only suggesting it; if you don't like the idea of me doing it I'm sure there are plenty of administrators within the Wikiproject who would be more than willing to. Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 22:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, the part I removed was only there because of the guy whining about the article not being important, so wasn't really needed now that the article's been expanded. As for the above sentence, that's the party's view. Perhaps if it's reworded to better suggest that it is what the party is trying to achieve, it would resolve the issue? As for the whole you editing it thing, that's nothing personal, it's just how it could be seen in such a way. AndrewTindall (talk) 00:12, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for clearing that up Andrew. I think your suggestion is probably a good one. I just felt that, in its present form, it sounded like it was trying to advertise the party. Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 21:58, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Revised the sentence in question. would you consider it acceptable enough to consider the article neutral, or do you feel further change is necessary? AndrewTindall (talk) 23:16, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think it looks pretty good now. I've taken the tag off :). Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 01:09, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
I agree that some parts of the article are to up to standard.--Anttipng (talk) 14:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
There is a "citation needed" mark on the current member count. I have a quote to verify this here but I'm not sure what Wikipedia's requirements and standards are on how this should be added as a reference. It would be helpful if a more experienced editor could add this in. -DukeUK (talk) 15:34, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Party history section too WP:RECENT-y?
editI don't want to perform the edit due to my COI but the last 3 paragraphs of the history section look like they may fall foul of WP:RECENT.

Removal of Self-Published tag
editI'm considering removing the tag because in the article's context all self-published references seem to conform to WP:PRIMARY policy on use of primary sources. editWhy the heck is Laurence Kaye redirected to this page? He is Party Leader for some years now - he should deserve his own page, even out of his not political work. Oldnag85 (talk) 23:39, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Policy
editThe policy section has been laughably out of date for quite some time now. The party adopted a broad policy platform in 2012, which you can find here, and is no longer focused on just three core issues (although they remain important to the party). There is also the Common European Election Policy, to which PPUK has subscribed (along with a dozen or so other European Pirate Parties).
I've re-added a {{Update}} tag but I'm hesitant to attempt change any of the copy due to a conflict of interest.

Membership
editThe article states that in 2009 "at its peak around 100 people an hour were signing up to become party members", yet under membership the figures are 590 for 2009 and 457 for 2010. Which means that the 100 per-hour statement is probably misleading. Thoughts? CarlDurose (talk) 14:57, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Contrary to Drowz0r's claims, there is no source for the actual 2016 membership figure, which is why I will again revert his edit and place a citation needed tag on the figure, as well as a dead link tag on the broken reference tag in the membership section. Whilst it does not need a source at every point, it's clear that there is no evidence to substantiate the claim that the Pirate Party has 500 members. If the party can produce a link to a reliable source for their claim (the electoral commission has not published their accounts for about 2 years now) then the tag can be removed. Until that time they are not at liberty to simply remove the tag because they find it embarrassing to have it there. An out of date figure is preferable to an unsourced figure. Maswimelleu (talk) 09:16, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- I've added the precise link now and when doing so I detailed exactly where in the document it was, seeing as others were having trouble finding it. Drowz0r (talk) 14:38, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Massive edits which messed up the page
editAgain Maswimelleu is making edits to this political party page despite being a Lib Dem. Previous edits by them were found to be incorrect and the latest changes show vast inconsistencies and erase most of the electoral success of the party, i.e. the trending growth and places where they actually gained more than 5% of the vote. Seems to me like nothing more than slowly constructed vandalism. Drowz0r (talk) 22:12, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
- I wouldn't describe "trending growth" and "more than 5% of the vote" as "electoral success"! There is absolutely no reason why a Lib Dem or a member or supporter of any other party should not edit an article. The only requirement is that edits should be factual and unbiased. Revised the information to reflect that the Pirate Party UK is currently under consideration for reinstatement in 2023 by the Electoral Commission. Provided details about the party's core policies and its history, including leadership changes and dissolution in 2020. Explained that the Electoral Commission has published names, descriptions, and emblems for consideration, but official approval is pending, while acknowledging the party's ability to use these materials in other contexts before approval. ref: https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/who-we-are-and-what-we-do/party-registration-applications/view-current-applications
Change "The Pirate Party UK (often abbreviated PPUK; in Welsh: Plaid Môr-leidr DU) was a political party in the United Kingdom." To "The Pirate Party UK (often abbreviated PPUK; in Welsh: Plaid Môr-leidr DU) is a political party in the United Kingdom."
- Why it should be changed:
The information should be changed to accurately reflect the current status of the Pirate Party UK and its potential reinstatement in 2023. This update ensures that readers are informed about the party's ongoing situation, as opposed to the previous statement that it was dissolved in 2020. Accuracy and up-to-date information are essential in providing a clear and factual representation of the party's status and history.

- What I think should be changed (include citations):
The Pirate Party UK (often abbreviated PPUK; in Welsh: Plaid Môr-leidr DU) is
a political party in the United Kingdom. The Pirate Party's core policies aim
to bring about reform to copyright and patent laws, support privacy, reduce surveillance from government and businesses, and uphold
freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
The party was originally
established in July 2009. Its
first leader was Andrew Robinson, who stepped down in August 2010. Laurence "Loz" Kaye was elected to replace him in September 2010, and he served until after the 2015 general election when he stepped down. Following Kaye's resignation, a leadership election was held, resulting in Cris Chesha being elected leader, and David A Elston becoming the party's first deputy leader. The party announced { its dissolutions
on 7 October 2020, and was subsequently de-registered as a political party by the Electoral Commission on 9 November 2020.
As of 2023, the Electoral Commission is currently considering the reinstatement of the Pirate Party UK as part of their assessment process. The EC has published names, descriptions, and emblems under consideration, but these cannot be used on a ballot paper by the party until they have received official approval. However, the party is allowed to utilize these names, descriptions, and emblems in other materials before obtaining formal approval from the Electoral Commission.

- Why it should be changed:
The provided information should be changed because it inaccurately states that the Pirate Party UK was dissolved in 2020 and de-registered as a political party. The request is to update the information to reflect that as of 2023, the party is under consideration for reinstatement by the Electoral Commission, and names, descriptions, and emblems are being assessed for potential approval. This change is necessary to ensure that the Wikipedia entry provides accurate and up-to-date information about the status of the Pirate Party UK. Keeping the information current is important for the accuracy and credibility of the article. PirateUkLucy (talk) 18:53, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

- What I think should be changed (include citations):
- Website: Update to http://ukpirate.party/ and mention that the previous website https://pirateparty.org.uk/ is no longer in use. - Headquarters: We don't have a Headquarters address that we are giving out. - Leadership: Update to Lucy Maber as the new leader as of March 11, 2023. - Party Aims: Mention the addition of trans rights after the restart. - Branches and Governance: We don't have any branches yet after the restart. - International Affiliation: Mention that we are rejoining the PPI.[1]
- Why it should be changed:
- Website: The website information needs to be updated to reflect our current online presence and to avoid confusion among readers. The previous website is no longer operational, and the new website is the primary source of information about our party. - Headquarters: We are not providing a Headquarters address for security and privacy reasons. It's important to maintain the safety of our members and supporters. - Leadership: Updating the leadership information is crucial for keeping the article accurate and up to date. Lucy Maber has been our leader since March 11, 2023, and this information should be reflected in the article. - Party Aims: The addition of trans rights is a significant development in our party's platform and should be reflected in the article to provide an accurate representation of our goals and values. - Branches and Governance: As of now, we don't have any branches, and this information is important to clarify our organizational structure. - International Affiliation: Our rejoining of the PPI is an important step in our party's international engagement and should be included to provide a comprehensive overview of our activities.
