Manual of Style, flags
editEditors should be aware that the Manual of Style indicates that sub-national flags should not be used in this article, per MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE. That would include, for instance, the flag of Hong Kong or the flag of Puerto Rico.
Please do not re-add sub-national flags, this can be considered disruptive editing. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:53, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- It seems strange to me. I have seen countless pages regarding sports events and pageants that use the flags of sub-national entities (examples include 2019 Pan American Games and Miss World 2016, in which flags of Puerto Rico, Aruba, British Virgin Islands are used). If this rule is used, it should be universally applied to many other articles, not this article alone. Trung geo (talk) 09:38, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, the Manual of Style should be applied to all articles. There is no "local consensus" to ignore it. This was brought up and answered at WT:Manual of Style/Icons/Archive 17#Sub-national flags used in lists of national beauty pageant contestants. Many people there said that flags should not be used in pageant articles at all, whether national or sub-national. Maybe that rose to consensus, but maybe not, so I'm not pushing for removing all flags at this time. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:02, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
