Dates of management/Chairmanship

edit

Not sure if they're right, so have a check if you know any better :) --Tiresais 13:54, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Widnes chairmanship is poorly cited and I removed it. Given that the "other" Mark Wright was also working on adding his name and luster to lower level teams at the time- there is every possibility this one story cited the wrong Mark Wright and I can't find any other corroboration. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/reality-tv-star-former-footballer-10060582 Johnccarleton (talk) 13:05, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Racially Abusing an Official

edit

Was this ever proven - if not, then surely it is a little unfair to include it?

New Version by LBloome

edit

I believe the new article posted by LBloome is substantially better sourced, more informative, and less subjective than the article it is replacing. If there are POV statements that are objectionable- it seems better to use the new article and line-edit it rather than use the old article.

For MOS- The article appears to be along the same lines as that of Michael Owen and therefore allowable?Johnccarleton (talk) 22:19, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

  1. Your version (or that by User:Lbloome if that's not also you) has introduced a lot of unsubstantiated opinions: e.g. "key member", "talented", "excelled". That's three in the first two sentences alone.
  2. The original article used the British dating style i.e. DMY; thus his date of birth should be shown as 1 August 1963, whereas you changed this to August 1st 1963. This was not a mistake on your part but a deliberate act.
  3. Seasons should be shown as, for example, 1995–96, not 1995/1996 or 1995-96 (note the different dashes).
  4. Football scores should be shown as, for example, 2–0, not 2-0 (again, note the dashes).
  5. The use of dates in the season headers in the form "'91-'98 " is just wrong.
  6. Despite what you say, large chunks of the revised article are unreferenced.
  7. For some reason (Liverpool bias?), you reduced his entire time at Southampton (actually a third of his career) to a sentence and a half. Then suddenly, he's at Derby County.
  8. Most of your references use bare URLs rather than the correct citation modes.
  9. You suggest that, if I don't like your version, I should ";line edit it". No - the onus is on you to do this and get it more or less right.
Until you can produce a better, properly written, properly sourced article, written from a neutral point of view, the older version stays. Sussexpeople (talk) 06:44, 27 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am not User:Lbloome but I appreciate the constructive criticism and I hope he can make the edits you suggest. I think the new article is much better, and better sourced. The neutral POV can be improved though. Johnccarleton (talk) 13:44, 27 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

New Sandbox Content for Review

edit

I have contacted LBLoome and asked to take over the new article as I seem to be developing such a great rapport with y'all.

I have made all the MOS and POV edits I believe required, and posted them to my Sandbox https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Johnccarleton/sandbox[1]. I believe substantially all facts are cited, but I am happy to be told otherwise and work with the community to make them better. Disclosure: I have shared a beer with Mark Wright in Liverpool and I am a fervent fan of LFC (though I live in the US). I have not been paid or engaged to edit this wiki. I just think it is a shame his wiki is of such a poor quality compared to other LFC greats! Johnccarleton (talk) 14:17, 30 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

As of today I am re-citing all of the citations to meet the requirements. They can be followed on the sandbox above. (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:38, 13 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have submitted my sandbox article for review. I believe it is substantially better (and better sourced) than the current article. I have removed all POV and updated the citations. Johnccarleton (talk) 16:04, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I will be slowly adding the additional content on the sandbox above, edited for POV to this article. I'll add it slowly to give the community time to discuss/edit/revert. Johnccarleton (talk) 13:05, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
