Serbia vs. Kosovo
editKosovo existed when he fled in 1999. Even if you deny Kosovo's independence, you cannot deny that he was born and raised in a place called Kosovo, from which he fled in 1999. Please leave the correct location in the article.--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 22:07, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Text is misleading as people will think he left the country of Kosovo, which he did not. Serbia is the correct location and is not misleading. Also the Category:Kosovo footballers is for footballers with Kosovo citizenship, which he does not have. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 23:08, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- What if you put in another region instead of Kosovo? Please do not let POV get in the way of a good article.--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 23:53, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Labinot haliti was born and raised in the Republic of Kosovo...please do not change it back to serbia...as it does not have nay links to it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2korriku (talk • contribs) 03:34, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Kosovo was constitutive unit of former Yugoslavia which together with Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Vojvodina, Serbia, Monenegro, & Macedonia formed a country called Yugoslavia. Serbia as a country didnt exist in 1999 Serbia was the last unit to gain independence from Yugoslavia after the split with Montenegro in May 2006. Even before 1999 Kosovo had ther parlament & representatives in goverment of Yugoslavia hence Labinot Haliti was born in Kosovo - Former Yugoslavia citing Serbia was his native country is incorrect as Serbia didn't exist as a country until the split with Montnengro in 2006 Yugoslavia was his native until 1999 after 1999 UN interim administration until feb 2008 when Kosovo became independent.Feedon (talk)06:14, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- So it should still be Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Why would it say anything other than the country? Hubschrauber729 (talk) 22:39, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I dont understand why does it bother you so much Kosovo was a province within federal republic of Yugoslavia with autonomous title. All im saying is that he was born in province of Kosovo which was then a part of Yugoslavia. eg. its like saying he was born in Macedonia Yugoslavia or Croatia Yugoslavia or Florida US or New South Wales Australia etc. I dont see nothing wrong with that. Feedon (talk)
- People won't get confused when you say Florida because it is still a State within a country, and that should only be used in an extremely American-oriented article, because Wikipedia is a global site. Kosovo was an "administrative region" or something along those lines but is now a country, and that distorts the truth. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 02:48, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
So in other words your saying that you are ready to deny this guy birthplace of his heritage and ethnicity by not publishing the correct location where he was born the town, province and the country!? I say thats strange!
The only way i will agree with you on this one is if we change the details of every single player that comes from Yugoslavia. But if you only change Labinot Haliti's than i will look at it as your denying him of the right to publish his place of birth and his heritage. And i will not agree with you on this one!
eg. Nemanja Vidić (Serbian Cyrillic: Немања Видић) (born October 21, 1981 in Titovo Užice, Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Serbian footballer http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Nemanja_Vidi%C4%87 another example:Luka Modrić [ˈluːka ˈmɔːdritɕ] (born 9 September, 1985 in Zadar) Place of birth Zadar, SFR Yugoslavia (now Croatia) http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Luka_Modri%C4%87
Why is only Labinot Haliti's profile being edited here? Feedon (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 05:48, 11 December 2008 (UTC).
Eligible for 3 nations?
editThe second sentence of the article reads "He holds a Kosovar, Albanian and Australian passport, making him eligible to represent all three nations." AFAIK Kosovo has not been recognised by FIFA so this cannot be accurate. I will change it to reflect accuracy. Comments? batobatobato (talk) 04:24, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Even tho Kosovo hasn't yet been recognised by FIFA it will be recognised sooner or latter in the near future also the Kosovo national team exists and plays friendly games with variuos national teams around the world. So he is eligible to play for Kosovo. The only way you could change this is if Kosovo didn't have a national football team at all. Leave as is.
feedon (talk) 12:17, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- How about something like "He holds a Kosovar, Albanian and Australian passport, making him eligible to represent Albania and Australia and the non-the FIFA-recognised Kosovo."?
- Encyclopaedic editing should never be based on speculation of future events. Whether Kosovo becomes a fully-fledged member of FIFA or not is irrelevant. The current status should be made clear to avoid factual misrepresentation. batobatobato (talk) 03:28, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, the article should be as clear as possible. If Kosovo becomes a full member of FIFA the wording can be updated to reflect as such. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 15:06, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Agree with you both on the FIFA issue that's fine by me. I also agree with quote: " making him eligible to represent Albania, Australia and the non FIFA-recognised Kosovo..."feedon (talk) 22:17, 02 October 2010 (UTC)
- OK agreed then. Will update the article to reflect this shortly. cheers batobatobato (talk) 02:54, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
