Serves
editI noticed that "Serves" in the infobox has been changed from "Iceland" to "Keflavík". The script for it says "closest town" but the airport serves the whole country. Should it as "Keflavík" or be reverted to "Iceland"? or perhaps Greater Reykjavík Area? (Pollodiablo 19:36, 10 March 2006 (UTC))
- Changed to Greater Reykjavík Area. --Mareklug talk 09:54, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- It is normal to say that the airport serves the largest town in the metropolitain area, i.e. the one that give name to the greater area. It is not nessesary to state that it serves the greater area since that is understood when specifying which city it serves. This has to do with standard naming procedures within aviation, since most airports are not located in the same administrative area as the city they usually serve. Therefor the correct and consistent place served by Keflavík Airport is Reykjavík, thus leaving out Greater Area. Arsenikk 14:31, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

ETOPS
editIsn't Keflavik used as an ETOPS 'anchor' airport? And so by simply being there it probably has quite an influence on (twinjet) transatlantic air traffic routes. Anybody got any real information?--ospalh (talk) 16:39, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
is there an older airfield?
edithaving a closer look at a satellite image of the airport area, one can make out a smaller airfield with two crossing runways slightly east of the present one. it's obviously not in use anymore. is that the original airfield? strangely, it is not mentioned anywhere.Sundar1 (talk) 16:39, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- it is the old airbase is still used some times like when Wen Jiabao visited iceland he landed there [[User:andri12|andri12]
- I added it to the 'Early years' section. Brilliantwiki2 (talk) 19:35, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Icelandair service to ORD: "resumes" or "begins"?
editThere has been a disagreement at O'Hare International Airport on whether or not FI service to ORD is a resumption or a new service. Airline Route states that Chicago is a resumption and that the airline served Chicago from KEF in October 1988. A user continues to change it to "begins" as the airline's press release states that it is not resumption (however, the end of the second paragraph and the beginning of the third paragraph states that Chicago was a destination for Icelandair previously). The question is did KEF and ORD existed in October 1988? Maybe the airline flew from RKV (Reykjavik Airport) to MDW (Chicago Midway International Airport) and transferred operations to KEF (Keflavik International Airport) and ORD (O'Hare International Airport). Any suggestions! 97.85.113.113 (talk) 08:14, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Redundant statements?
edit"On 29 June 1999, Concorde G-BOAA flew from Heathrow Airport to Reykjavík (Keflavík airport). The Concorde had been there.[5]"
What's this supposed to mean? 216.137.192.89 (talk) 07:05, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
Odd boarding practice
editAfter a recent transit, I was hoping this article would address the odd boarding practice at this airport: arriving passengers deplane using the airport's jetbridges, but departing passengers descend to ground level and take a shuttle bus out onto the airfield and board using air stairs. Why would they do this? Is it lack of gate capacity? This seems to diminish airlines' ability to provide premium service for flights departing KEF, as there are no departure lounges and passengers are forced to stand in long lines waiting to board the bus. Also, I noted that there was still construction going in in the terminal, specifically in the passport-control area which was quite constricted on arrival. 18.26.0.5 (talk) 22:30, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
