The result of the move request was: Moved to John Hutchinson (association footballer) (non-admin closure) Quadrantal (talk) 07:40, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
John Hutchinson (footballer, born 1979) → John Hutchinson (footballer) – Relatively clear cut per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sportspeople)#Association football (soccer). 11:47, 16 July 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macosal (talk • contribs) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 2pou (talk) 22:48, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. We also have John Hutchinson (Australian rules footballer). -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:08, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp:, that is not a relevant factor per the guideline above. Standard practice appears to be to use “(footballer)” to disambiguate despite existence of pages for sportspeople playing other variants (e.g., Anthony Gordon (footballer) and Anthony Gordon (American football)). If your interpretation is to be correct/made universal then the guideline should be changed but it seems clear to me that “(footballer)” is entirely consistent with current practice and guidelines? 03:39, 17 July 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macosal (talk • contribs)

- @Macosal and Necrothesp: RM opened over queried technical request. -2pou (talk) 22:50, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. Macosal (talk) 13:34, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Necrothesp. Could perhaps move this one to John Hutchinson (association footballer) or similar. GiantSnowman 18:26, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Necrothesp. The disambiguation guidelines for association football and Australian rules football need to be taken into account. The default for Australian rules footballers is (footballer) per the guideline pt. 1. #2 (Australian footballer) is not used as John Hutchinson (footballer, born 1979) is also Australian. Tassedethe (talk) 18:31, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Edit conflict. John Hutchinson (association footballer) would be acceptable per Giant Snowman. Tassedethe (talk) 18:31, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
