Songwriter

edit

To editor Doggy54321: your 2nd revert of this time a sourced addition to the songs Jade Thirlwall has helped to write had an edit summary of:

If that was the case then every single song she has written for little mix should be included as well, but they aren’t. Same applies to Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Whatever songs they have co-written and performed on aren’t listed in that section

And I wonder, why not? That is a table that lists Thirlwall's "songwriting credits". It seems you would want to see all the (notable) songs listed on which she's worked. At least those for which she's been credited as songwriter or co-writer. I've actually only been able to find a few other songs, like "Wasabi" and "Motivate", that she's been credited for co-writing, but they don't have their own articles on Wikipedia, so maybe they shouldn't be included. I think that should be the inclusion criteria. If a song she's written or co-written has its own article on this encyclopedia, then it should be listed in that table, especially after going to the trouble of finding a source for the claim that she co-wrote it. I want to reinclude that song in that table. I think it should be there. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 19:59, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Paine Ellsworth: ok. I agree with your inclusion criteria. Maybe the table can be expanded to include the header Songwriter. That way, it’s more organized. We can also use {{tick}} which produces  Y for the songwriter category, instead of just writing “yes”. Any notes that should be included (maybe she was involved with production or some other aspect of the song) can be put in the notes header. I’ll respond back with a list of songs that each member has co-written, and you or I can implement the changes into the four articles. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 22:33, 8 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Paine Ellsworth: here is a list of songs the girls have written (albums are in brackets). Sources in List of songs recorded by Little Mix. If you need any extra information, just ping me, I’ll retrieve the info. An alternative is to look at the song articles.

That's an impressive listing! Below I've made a table of JT's work and it's sortable. I've collapsed it so as not to take up a lot of talkpage space. Feel free to adjust it and get it how you want it. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 17:18, 10 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Paine Ellsworth and Doggy54321: Considering this is a discography table that mentions the year of release, I feel it should be listed in chronological order, but let me know your thoughts too. – DarkGlow () 17:50, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@DarkGlow: yea that does make more sense. Organizing by year is what the main discography has, so it should be the same. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 17:58, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Award is misspelt in the last paragraph of the career section. Could someone correct this? I'm unable due to the semi-protection. 92.3.131.156 (talk) 23:34, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Jade Thrilwall has legally received the title of Lady, I suggest her title be added so she is Lady Jade Thrilwall. 2607:FEA8:BA1:1600:6830:8242:376D:68BC (talk) 17:46, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Song writing credits for twice

edit

Hi. I just wanted to know is it okay to include jade songwriting credits for "first time" in the discography section that lists her song writing credits? There's reliable sources to back up the claim that she co wrote a song for twice album called 'first love' but there's no separate wikipedia article for the song itself. Although it is mentioned on twice taste of love ep wiki page that she has song writing credits, but I wanted to know if it's okay to include the song here?

but it does mention on twice wik Rustyleigh (talk) 07:06, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Rustyleigh:Hi! It is true that Jade has songwriting credits for Twice for their track "First Time". But only songs with its own Wikipedia article can be added on the list. You can see the discussion about this inclusion criteria on Talk:Jade Thirlwall#Songwriter. Hope you understand! 🤗 ɢᴀʙʙʏᴍɪx01 07:40, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Songwriting

edit

I understand the idea behind keeping the songwriting list concise (as she has contributed to 48 Little Mix songs) but I think it makes more sense for this section to focus on her songwriting to other artists.

Perhaps adding a subtext saying something along the lines of 'Jade has contributed to many Little Mix songs' and then creating a list of songs she's written to other artists. That would be more interesting than listing songs for Little Mix as the band she belongs to.

So far we have 3: Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea's Pretty Girls, Twice's First Time and announced today Twice's Candyfloss. Jawow (talk) 16:45, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Jawow: I think a reasonable compromise is to keep the stipulation that a song needs to have its own article but solely for Little Mix songs. We want to keep the songwriting list relatively concise and it should be fairly obvious that she has contributed to many of the band's songs.
However, she has not contributed to nearly as many songs separately or with other groups and I think those are notable enough to add irregardless of whether or not a particular song has its own article.
In the future, especially with the Little Mix hiatus and reports that she will pivot to being a solo artist, it may be necessary to create a separate article for her songwriting credits. Numerous artists have separate songwriting pages with a comparable number of co-written songs, including songs with and without articles. RedBaron12 (talk) 20:44, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Jade also did not write Candyfloss; the credits of the EP says that she composed it. Perhaps that's more suitable to write in her career section. – DarkGlow22:41, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
@DarkGlow I still think it belongs in the songwriting credits. From my, albeit limited, knowledge being a Composer for a song is essentially equivalent to being a songwriter. It just includes the whole process rather than just lyrics. It looks like they’re using it as synonymous with songwriter in this case. RedBaron12 (talk) 00:05, 31 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lead and songwriter notability

edit

There are regular disputes on this page over what should be included in the lede, short description, and occupation; namely whether songwriter and/or activist should be included. I am starting this talk page discussion to develop consensus.

In my opinion, songwriter should be included because it is an integral part of her notable singing career. She appears to have more writing credits in group songs than other band members, has signed a songwriting contract, and most importantly has independently contributed to songwriting for multiple other artists. Leaving out songwriter in the lede and description significantly reduces its factual accuracy and glanceability of the introduction.

I am less sure either way on activist, but lean towards excluding it since the evidence shows involvement but not significant independent contributions to organizing activism. RedBaron12 (talk) 18:52, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Writing songs does not equate to being a "songwriter," as established at plenty other articles. Weight has yet to be established—via reliably sourced citations, as well as awards and achievements for songwriting—has not been provided for qualifying her as a "songwriter". It's not what she is noted for. Being a singer and performer IS, however. As such, user(s) also mis-interpret lyricists for songwriter. Thirlwall's notability for being either or is not established, and not notable enough for a lead mention, despite fan objections stating otherwise. livelikemusic (TALK!) 14:51, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Jade ThirlwallJade (singer) – She goes mononymously in her solo work, that can be checked on all streaming platforms [1], [2], [3], official website. Bluemoon878 (talk) 23:20, 19 October 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). estar8806 (talk) 00:40, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I suggest opening a full discussion on this since there are other singers with the name Jade, be it with or without their surname/family name. – robertsky (talk) 02:29, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not a bad idea tbh. Among the bevy of other Jades on that given name article page, several of them are also singers. One should thoroughly check on AllMusic and/or Genius to be sure none of them ever went mononymously.
For the time being, until a full discussion occurs and/or consensus, w/e…what I'd recommend is, immediately following her birthdate in the lede, having it say "known mononymously as Jade" or words to that effect. That's fairly customary. --Cinemaniac86TalkStalk 13:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
This will be a spicy RM and is in no way uncontroversial. She has been known as her full name for her entire career except for the last few months when she's released, what, three songs? RachelTensions (talk) 05:10, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Note that this previous discussion (above) was copied over from WP:RMT as it was originally proposed as an uncontroversial move.
Anyway, Oppose: she's still widely referred to as her full name; she's only released 3 songs as "Jade", and virtually no reliable sources refer to her as just "Jade" without also mentioning the last name. It's too early to assert that "Jade" is her WP:COMMONNAME.
Recent coverage (last few months) that uses her full name in reliable, independent, English-language sources:
Billboard, People, Cosmopolitan, The Shields Gazette, NME, Gay Times, Official Charts Company, British Vogue, Newcastle World, Vogue Arabia, Polyester Magazine, Capital FM, HuffPost UK, BBC News, American Songwriter, Rolling Stone, Music News, Attitude Magazine, Clash, The Guardian, Inkl, The National, The Independent, The News International, Belfast Telegraph, Birmingham Live, The Chronicle, etc.
Until reliable sources widely start calling her just "Jade" without feeling the need to also include "Thirlwall" along with it, then we shouldn't be moving this article. RachelTensions (talk) 01:23, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
