Merger proposal

edit

I propose to merge Germany women's national under-19 football team into Germany women's national under-20 football team. They are in fact one single team, as in the UEFA the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship is the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The DFB also runs these as one team (see, e.g., here). Seany91 (talk) 05:54, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - unless we have wider consensus to do this across the board. E.g. Scotland national under-19 football team finished second in the 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship which meant the Scotland national under-20 football team played at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. • Oppose - different year groups compete in different tournaments - although there is designed to be some continuation like the u19 winners playing as the u20s the next year - so it is appropriate for there to be separate articles for each. That is true of all the national teams, certainly for those qualifying for the major finals year after year like Germany (and its not as if, for example, U20 has been retired as an active age group and there would be no real need for separation). The way the FA website organises itself isn't particularly relevant IMO, but I note that on the linked page, it says "...und Ariane Hingst ([U 19-]/[U 20-Frauen]) drei ehemalige Nationalspielerinnen zu den Juniorinnen", the square brackets are mine but indicate hyperlinks on the site, going to separate news lists for the U19 and U20 groups. So I'm not even sure the 'runs teams as one' thing is accurate - maybe the site has been altered since the merge proposal was added. Crowsus (talk) 21:04, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Closing, given the uncontested objections and no support. Klbrain (talk) 17:55, 18 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
