Wikipedia talk:Our social policies are not a suicide pact

Good essay

Short but well written and with enough context for a newbie to comprehend. (talk) 08:50, 26 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't get it. Does it mean we can kick obvious trolls butts? Or that we should quit rather than commit suicide? Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 13:54, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Another useless essay that derails productive dialogues

Of course they are not a suicide pact (which should be "are not suicide pacts"). They are also not battleships, kung-fu lessons or black and white movies. If this is an analogy, it is not explained at all.

Also people who display evidence of bad faith have been known to link to this essay when reminded of wikipedia policy, treating it as some kind of get out of jail free card. Without more context and explanation this essay doesn't stand up. MaxBrowne (talk) 06:43, 20 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I can't believe this actually gets linked to by editors and admins to justify actions

I mean, they clearly haven't read it. Or, if they have, they should get a WP:CIR block. Primergrey (talk) 02:12, 27 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
