Last of the Mohicans

edit
  The Working Man's Barnstar
For being the "Last of the Mohicans"--one of the few women who has not been driven off the Gender Gap Task Force or the GGTF ArbCom case.

Hi, Carolmooredc. I have seen this rather amusing barnstar floating around and cannot think of anyone who deserves it more than you do. You have continued to Assume Good Faith, and have patiently answered even the most hostile statements, long after anyone else would have lost patience and concluded that they were being trolled. Just for the record, this is no longer a gender-specific barnstar, but the irony of the original version is just too perfect. Regards, —Neotarf (talk) 13:50, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I actually looked up WP:NOTSUICIDE and I don't get it. As I asked at talk "Does it mean we can kick obvious trolls butts? Or that we should quit rather than commit suicide?" Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 13:56, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ha, ha, enjoy. —Neotarf (talk) 15:01, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Back at ya! But you know my definition of feminist: any woman who doesn't take any bull in any part of her life. So that's most of 3.6 billion women on the planet :-) Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 23:55, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kittens and puppies for helpful and friendly editors

edit

Don't have energy to post separately. These are for those who have seen through the nonsense of the last six months, whether or not you have yet chosen to speak out.

Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 15:24, 22 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Also feel free to delete any of those negative/nasty/harassing comments I always get if anyone leaves them here, since I probably won't be allowed to.

Your return is eagerly awaited !!!!

edit

Loved the kittens !!! Lots of people eagerly await your return. IMO, you are getting the rough treatment because they were powerless to protect you from those out to harass you. So, they cover their own weakness in this way. What other option do they have ? In a way, I approve that you should leave, rather than suffer for contributing in a community which failed you with its inability to stop the harassers. Being a glass half-filled optimist, I see reform as inevitable, even if I retire to my jacuzzi and my polo matches. Right...   Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 15:27, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Reform is inevitable. It is just a question of how many people must suffer, and be scapegoated/sacrificed like you, before the community comes to its senses.OrangesRyellow (talk) 15:50, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm, gives me yet another idea. A quickie video like on Talking Dead with the names of "this decades departed" scrolling by to dirge music with faded death masks as background. Of course, I'm sure there were a few who really did deserve it. I even supported one myself once! Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 16:23, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you!

edit
  The Special Barnstar
Please accept this barnstar in recognition of your attempts to change the current culture of Wikipedia. I hope you return with a renewed passion for the project and keep your sense of humour. In the meantime, do take a look at other open knowledge projects, there are plenty that deliver excellent worthwhile outcomes, not only encyclopaedias. Commons, for example, has far less self-feeding dramah and far fewer wikilawyers. (talk) 17:22, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thank you for the adorable kittens! I may have a dog now but I grew up a cat person and I still love them.

I wish things had worked out differently. I hope to see you back as soon as possible. Until then, may your days be filled with relaxation, happiness, and kittens. Ca2james (talk) 17:23, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

A pie for you!

edit
Many thanks for the adorable kitten you delivered to my talk page. I have used it as an ingredient in this delicious hot meat pie; please have a slice and take a moment to savour the taste and enjoy simpler pleasures. (Or, if vegetarian pies are preferred, you could leave this one for meat-eating friends.) I hope to see you back on Wikipedia sooner rather than later. Gender equality here needs all the help it can get - not to mention civility, neutrality, and other oft-ignored principles. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 17:54, 28 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
One more. I am so sorry, Carol. Best wishes to you. --GRuban (talk) 01:16, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kitten

edit

Thank you for the kitten, which I will move to my user page. If you mean that Wikipedia was dragging you in and that the ArbCom case is letting you try something else in your retirement, so be it. But if you choose to come back after your time is served, you won't be a septuagenarian, but still a sexagenarian. I can do the arithmetic as well as you can, except that I don't have to do the arithmetic, because I'm a '48er also. I'm not that far from you either in time or in space (only, evidently, in gender). My sympathies or something.

I suppose that, as a libertarian, you have very mixed feelings about the late Mr. Barry. What ward are you in? Robert McClenon (talk) 02:48, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Onward and upward and all that. I'm in ward 5. Met Barry in 1988 and he was definitely a charismatic figure. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 04:44, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good luck

Good luck Carol. I entirely agree with Tarc's remark. I look forward to your return. -- C1cada (talk) 23:25, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good luck Carol! I just saw the news of your ban, and find that rather unfortunate. We need more people voicing in a radical way critiques of gender equality on Wikipedia, and its a real shame that it came back to bite you. I didn't follow the conversation, but hope it doesn't discourage you from continuing in some capacity in shaping the Wikimedia community to better recognize harassment in the community. Sadads (talk) 19:52, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hm, that's quite a solid source for an entry at list of Wikipedia controversies. Tarc (talk) 21:02, 11 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
FYI, I kept providing this link to editors and Arbitrators during Arbitration to show just how obsessed the media is with Wikipedia's gendergap, but they didn't believe me: Wikipedia gender gap-related Media hits. (Note: I only made the Slate-quoted comment after Arbcom voted to ban me.) Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 02:12, 12 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

This member of WP:RETENTION, hopes you'll decide to return & Arbcom will reinstate you. GoodDay (talk) 20:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Still years behind on my own projects, so not going to be tempted to return for a while. Plus I'd rather wait til Mediation program significantly beefed up, with paid Mediators if necessary, so I don't waste time in stupid arguments. Hopefully new arbitrators more savvy on wide variety of GGTF-type issues. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 12:00, 14 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for undoing redirect. Shooting of Al Hallaq

edit

I got your contact from a comment you made back in 2008 about the organized pro Israeli groups that are working to suppress any information about the atrocities that Israel commit on a daily basis in Palestine. The autistic Palestinian man who was murdered in Jerusalem more than a month ago is being victimized again by the pro Israel editors by suppressing any information related to the incident no matter how neutral and reliable it is. Please see the article and the talking point at Shooting of Eyad al-Hallaq. I can't edit the article because it's subject to the 500/30 rule but you may be able to. Thank you.

Sorry I got kicked off six years ago for being politically INcorrect - i.e., snarky while being female. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 08:26, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Limited editing rights

edit

I won't try to get back on wikipedia again as a full-service editor again for many reasons. But I come across SO MANY articles that are outdated now a days and do need Updating, it would be nice to have the Wiki-legal right to at least put a "this page needs updating" banner on top. Like this one. Prompt Global Strike Then leave it up to fate if anyone bothers. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 16:48, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Carol, there's no such distinction available. Why not just ask to ask to come back fully and take a mellow pill and have some fun here with us?  :-) Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 02:34, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Can't come back cause too much of own writing to do and if I came back I'd be tempted to do a little editing and then the problems would inevitably start with outraged male editors because of whatever excuse they got... Not getting any younger so gotta work on my own stuff, now that I'm retired with enough time and money to do it. Unless Biden and the bureaucrats figure out how to loot us oldsters. Too bad they don't have a thumbnail so you'll know which cover it is. Anyway there's probably more recent one than what I uploaded. The was Kohrs most influential book. I guess i can put it on commons and let whoever might be editing put it up there. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 14:04, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Senior Wikipedians

edit

WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older has been inactive for some time. The following three proposals may help invigorate this project.

  1. Change the name of this project to WikiProject Senior Wikipedians.[a]
  2. Open membership in this project to users who are at least 60 years of age and have made at least 50 edits in the past year.[b]
  3. Open supporting membership in this project to users who are less than 60 years old but have made at least 50 edits in the past year and support the goals of this project.[c]

Suggested goals for this project:

  1. To support collaboration and communication among members for the advancement and improvement of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.
  2. To encourage older people, retired people, and soon-to-be-retired people to participate in Wikipedia both for the advancement of the encyclopedia and for their own personal enjoyment.
  3. To encourage older people to share their experience and expertise for the improvement of Wikipedia.
  4. To encourage older users to use their experience and expertise to help younger and less experienced users.
  5. To encourage participation in local and regional Wikimedia events.
  6. To sponsor Wikipedia meetings and classes at places where older people gather.
  7. To advocate for the elimination of ageism and sexism in Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.

Notes

  1. ^ The current name of this project, WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older, is somewhat cumbersome and excludes participation by any users under the age of 70 years.
  2. ^ This current minimum age limit of this project is 70 years. A minimum age limit of 60 years should permit the participation of most retired users. The minimum activity level of 50 edits per year is arbitrary. A minimum activity level indicates continued interest. Members who do not meet the minimum activity level shall be moved to inactive status. Members who have died shall be moved to memorial status.
  3. ^ A new class of Supporting Members allows those users under 60 years to support the goals of the project. Users approaching the age of 60 years may wish to become supporting members in anticipation of reaching the minimum age limit for members.

Please add your suggestions for this project at Senior Wikipedians. Thank you,  Buaidh  talk e-mail 01:15, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is in pretty sad shape with so many articles outdated. But I hear women editors still regularly harassed for daring to correct poor male editing so I'll pass. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 11:11, 10 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I heard you were working on your own stuff back four years ago. If you have sorted things out, I hope you would return to editing, so that there are less outdated articles :). If people harass you, stay civil to avoid boomerang, then get them sanctioned at ANI, don't listen to the loud minority! Sir Kenneth Kho (talk) 23:57, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for thinking of me!! Despite many interruptions having to fight patriarchal abuse in probate court and in an apartment situation, I am still working on my own stuff. Now that I'm getting the hang of self-publishing and AI, I've got several books to finish off and get out there before my 76 year old body gets to be 85 and too old. U/C willing. ;-)
Even if I did somehow avoid editing on articles where guys don't throw tantrums at the slightest touch to their sacred edits, it would still be too much temptation to add material that stalkers - old and new - would find fault with. But I still give Wikipedia $20 odd bucks year and use it and refer others to it freely. I even defend use of it as a source - for sources anyway - when others joke about it. So that continues to be my contribution. And your email did finally get me to ask the question to which this WikiFoundation article is a partial answer. Elder Wikipedians

edit

WikiProject Elder Wikipedians

My proposal to make extensive changes to WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older was a bust, primarily because many users felt that the term "Senior Wikipedian" implied a higher ranking Wikipedia membership. Therefore, I am making two less ambitious proposals:

Proposal #1. Change the name of "WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older" to "WikiProject Elder Wikipedians".
Proposal #2. Drop the minimum age requirement to 60 years.

Please respond to Elder Wikipedians and let us know what you think of each of these proposals.
Thank you,  Buaidh  talk e-mail

I thought of "Retired" Wikipedians which sounded good at first. Then I realized it sounds like "Retired from Wikipedia", not retired from working full time. How about MATURE? that has a good double entendre meaning. hahaha
But I'm too busy to come back and fight with prejudiced and privileged macho people with penises (to be PC) like the ones who got me kicked off last time. Carolmooredc (Talkie-Talkie) 21:04, 13 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I request that User:Carolmooredc be unblocked from the English language Wikipedia. She was blocked indefinitely on December 1, 2014, and I think ten years is quite a long time to block a productive user. I need Carol to help me with WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older. Decline reason:

Procedural decline. We don't accept third party requests. This is also not a simple block, it is a ban imposed by the Arbitration Committee. This user needs to appeal to the Committee directly. 331dot (talk) 01:34, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
