No need for template - all it does is create links inside templates, which is against policy. Requires substitution and deletion. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:58, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep pending a link to the policy being cited here. I don't see any problems with this template (except that it has no documentation or categories, which is not a TFD reason). The template appears to be useful: it applies bold formatting, nowrap, and a link to a player's article, depending on the parameters used. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:16, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Jonesey95, we shouldn't be using nowrap on names, aside from some incredibly rare instances such as hyphenated names). We shouldn't be bolding these links, and there is no legitimate reason to bypass a link to use a template. It also causes issues such as not showing up on duplicate link checkers and would not update after a page move. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:48, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please cite a valid TFD reason. So far, all I have seen are editing requests that should be brought up at the template's talk page. It is clear that editors find this template more useful than a plain wikilink. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:57, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep (Creator), yes I do need to add documentation. The template is being used at List of players with a 2023 PDC Tour Card for example that is not just inside templates. Not sure where that is occuring actually? The purpose is to add sort filters to player links (does this automatically by getting last name from the module), remove the need for disambiguation of darts players (which is a common problem in the darts pages), and cut down on some of the excessive red linking that happens with darts players that are currently non-notable (and the module automatically updates links at such a time that the player may become notable and the article is created). I will try to get to the documentation soon. DLManiac (talk) 19:50, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that the tour card article doesn't use this template anymore. Tvx1 18:25, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed DLManiac, that page does not use the template. I don't understand how every other single project can disambiguate correctly but we need a template to do so here? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:51, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was deleted because it is an active page and the curator was tired of seeing the TFD link. The major use case here is really replacing sortname|Peter|Wright|dab=darts player with PDCLink|Peter Wright. It's a convenience because fixing hundreds of dart pages with tables, where no one was using SORTNAME was easier via a new template since we have the data module to support it. DLManiac (talk) 20:05, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete, unnecessary template with the sole purpose of replacing wikilinks. Removing the need for disambiguation? It is so easy to put the correct article link in which renders this pointless. And this also leads to problems with too many templates being used as many of these darts articles also use a PDCFlag template. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 20:33, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But there are plenty of instances where the PDCFlag template isn't needed, and PDCLink is much more suitable. All you and Lee Vilenski have done is shown a lack of common sense in this "vendetta" that you both seem to have against the WikiDarts community. JRRobinson (talk) 15:04, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Explain to the folks why you can't use common sense to write [[Peter Wright (darts player)|Peter Wright]]. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
