Wiki Loves Monuments San Francisco Waterfront Photo Ride

edit
  • September 15th, Saturday, from 3 pm to 8 pm.

As part of Wiki Loves Monuments, we're organizing a photo bike ride (like a photo walk, but with wheels!) to take pictures of historic sites along the beautiful San Francisco waterfront. There are numerous historic buildings along the waterfront from the Ferry Building up to Golden Gate Bridge. We'll see how many we can shoot as we take part in of the world's largest photo contest.

Itinerary

Notice: even if you don't plan to ride a bike, come on out. We can split into two groups, one walking, one riding, or we can all walk. I definitely don't want you to feel discouraged if you don't have the bike option. Almonroth 18:45, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We'll lead a casual bicycle tour around many of the National Register of Historic Places sites along the San Francisco waterfront. We will start with the Ferry Building, which is listed on the NRHP and is a wonderful building to document, both inside and out. We'll then make our way up the piers and among the buildings along the historic San Francisco Barbary Coast until we reach the various ships moored along Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, then through Fort Mason. Time and energy permitting, we'll continue to ride past the Presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge and Fort Point.

Bring your bike, a camera, and some water. If you don't have a camera, use your smartphone and download the free Wiki Loves Monuments Android app.

It's always useful to have a couple of goals in mind on a trip such as this. Where do you want to be during the last hour of sunlight when photography is at its best? Binksternet (talk) 00:11, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This sounds like a great idea! For those who don't own bikes and would like to join, there are several bike shops in the Fisherman's Wharf area that rent out bikes at around $30/day. They may also have some kinda group discounts. SPat talk 21:05, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's a great idea, and I'd love to join! I can only suggest to meet a bit earlier, because it gets cold at GGB around 4-5 pm.

  • -I'd actually prefer a non-bike outing, but I bet I can borrow one for the day. Quuxplusone (talk)
That's totally an option. Let's see what the consensus is on it and go with that. I was thinking ride mostly so we might get to the GGB, but I'm not at all set on that option. Almonroth 06:23, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
