about greater oslo

Ely, Cardiff

Hi, I see you've made a number of contributions to the Ely, Cardiff page. I was just wondering your opinion on how to handle the confusion with Ely and Caerau. On the face of it it seems quite simple - keep Ely stuff in the Ely article and Caerau stuff in the Caerau article. However, a LOT of things apply to both and there really is confusion as to what constitutes Ely and Caerau. For example, the Roman Villa is in Caerau as was Ely Racecourse. Most of the Ely history also applies to Caerau as it occurs on what is essentially the same geographic area! The Cowbridge road border is fine for modern day things, but doesn't really work with historical information.

One possibility is that there could be a separate article for Ely and Caerau history. The articles for the Ely and Caerau electoral wards can then link to this article and provide snippets of information relevant to either area. The electoral ward article would still have other information such as schools, pubs, roads, famous people etc as these are easy to split up between Ely and Caerau.

Ok, fair enough. So, the history section as it now appears now in the Ely article would mostly also appear in the Caerau article (with reference to the Roman Villa, Ely Racecourse...)? I guess this could mostly be a cut and paste job. Which famous people were born where also needs to be sorted out as I'm not sure exactly who is from where. Do you assume that everything north or Cowbridge road is Ely and everything south is Caerau (as the electoral wards show)? Some people refer to "lower Ely" but even as a local resident I'm not exactly sure what this is! Dead passive (talk) 11:04, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

The Wave

If you are so uptight with my edits, then why don't you help and contribute by adding sources and solving the problem which you have !? Instead of reverting the edits and complaining, why don't you actually add some sources of your own - I am doing the work all the time and it would be nice if others could actually help. The article looks good and is constructive, but there are a few tweaks needed. Oh and by the way, the source in the Music Policy does say that the format consists of a mix of genres, so I can remove that tag you placed. Jonny7003 (talk) 20:42, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Ok, but I would have thought broad music - a mix of genres would have included pop, urban, rock and dance, and the station do play those styles/genres as I listen to The Wave quite a lot. Anyway, I'll try to find some more sources to back it up. Jonny7003 (talk) 20:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm glad that this is finally being addressed on a talk page, because the edit history at this article shows both editors breaking the spirit of the three-revert rule if not the letter. No-one gets anywhere by constantly reverting back and forth, it simply creates bad feeling. As an experienced editor, Welshleprechaun will know the options for dispute resolution and you should have a look at this page too Jonny. Recent edits to The Wave article

Hello Welshleprechaun,

I was wondering if you could help me out a bit here - there is a user who is currently submitting edits that consist of removing sufficient and reliable references, as well as placing details about a "merger" of "the template below", which I do not understand. This user is also adding Citation needed to the History Section, when there were already reliable sources placed in that section in the first place. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. First Great Western

I wonder why you say that FGW doesn't serve the SE? I don't know what your definition of South East England is, but according to the definition at South East England it would cover such places as Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton, to name but a few. I note that you moved Template:Major railway stations in the United Kingdom to Template:Major railway stations in Britain as a result of the proposed move. However, as I read the discussion the request was to move it to Template:Major railway stations in Great Britain (that was certainly what I was voicing support for). In colloquial usage, yes. Hyper-technically though "Britain" is the name of only the largest island, and does not include off-shore islands like the Shetlands, Isle of Wight, etc. More relevantly, all the other articles and templates use "Great Britain". Thryduulf (talk) 21:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Llanrumney

Hi - just to clear up I see that you have edited my piece and inserted that the Eastern Leisure Centre is to close in September 2012.

This is incorrect. Cardiff Council's plans are to build a new school and re-furbished leisure centre, that would work as a combined facility for the community, and the date for this to open would be September 2012.

I also inserted some sub-headings to break the lengthy text passage on School Reorganisation up.

I have meant to work on this section for awhile and have provided numerous references to back up the entries.

Wikipedia is an ENCYCLOPEDIA. Its unique selling point is that it can include unlimited information on given topics.

What I find alarming is that you were happy to have School Re-organisation thread on the page before that was patently inaccurate "Llanrumney High school will close in 2014"

Last night after two hours of my inserting greater detail than the superficial points listed and correcting the staggeringly inaccurate facts listed with reference articles you sought to edit and even stated - "Not sure if this stuff should be here."

Today you have repeated that by claiming that you will look in a few days to determine whether it is appropriate!

That you can argue that it may not be relevant to detail the biggest single event to happen to the life of the Llanrumney community for the last fifty years and for the next fifty years I find staggering.

The local community poll was only the second ever staged in the city of Cardiff yet you will ponder whether this is relevant to contain in an Encyclopedia entry about Llanrumney.

I shall be adding further detail to bring events up to date. As the Welsh Assembly Government is due to make a decision any day now.

The piece was written with no bias to any side. It reports what has taken place.

If you seek to censor coverage of the issue in the life of Llanrumney I would wonder as to your motives?

I would also flag this issue to Wikipedia moderators as a rather bizarre attempt either to censor coverage of factual detail that is on the public record or an attempt to deny other users the legitimate right to add to the Llanrumney section.

As it stands today the piece is informative and factual correct. As it stood yesterday and for the past year it was plainly incorrect. Which would you and which would Wikipedia rather see?

Moving Text

You have given no rationale reason for which to move the section "School Reorganisation" section from the Llanrumney to Llanrumney High School. You have stated that you live on the opposite side of the city from Llanrumney, that you have no interest in the subject yet you have sought to question the notability of text that is referenced by 11 sources - these compromise BBC - South Wales Echo and Cardiff Council!. If you fail to see the relevance of facts about the development to the Eastern Leisure Centre, parkland in Llanrumney, Llanrumney High School, Llanrumney's only ever local community poll in the Llanrumney page then I will take this matter up with Wikipedia. You clearly have an ulterior motive than that of Wikipedia which is an online Encyclopedia. I have noted comments from others that you have been quick to accuse of bias. I think there might be a page on something called psychological projection. I shall revert changes if you simply move the text, I shall raise the issue with Wikipedia and I'd be more than happy to go to the local press about why anybody would look to marginalise text that is factually correct, neutrality written and reference by reputable sources. When it involves an issue of such interest to the people of Llanrumney seeking to move it to a less accessed page smacks of something rather odd going on. You don't need to have knowledge or interest on a subject to know if it conforms to Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I am not talking about the relevance or notability any more! I am saying that information on a school's closure belongs on that school's article. That should be clear, but evidently not. You seem to fail to grasp that the council's plans include closing the Eastern Leisure Centre, refurbishing it and then using it in conjunction with the school. A totally new state of affairs for the community of Llanrumney since the ELC was opened in 1982 when the leisure centre was an independent leisure centre. How does this fit better within Llanrumney High School rather than Llanrumney? The text I have written describes only the second ever local community poll to be held in Cardiff after Canton's poll in 2007. How does that not merit inclusion on the Llanrumney page? The council's plans if approved would see the parkland that currently hosts the Llanrumney Festival be built on. How does that not merit inclusion on the Llanrumney page? It must be written about without bias, no question and referenced no question. I have done both. 11 references from sources including the BBC, South Wales Echo and Cardiff Council. In contrast to your previous edit that stated the plan was to go ahead in 2014, two years later than is actually the case, without any single reference supporting this inaccuracy? I am well aware of the plans, having read about them. However the aim is to reorganise the schools, hence why it would be most suitable on the school's page. Regarding the 2012/2014 matter, I am not repeating myself for the fourth of fifth time. I would like to suggest you read about how to behave on Wikipedia. If you have read the plans, I included them as references on the text that I have written. You will know that the plans do not simply involve the school. They impact on the Eastern Leisure Centre, the Rumney Recreation Ground (which sits in Llanrumney) and has involved a high level of public attention on the community of Llanrumney. A Wikipedia article on Llanrumney without any mention of this would have no rationale. AGAIN: I have read the plans. They would not exist if the school weren't already there. I'm not saying it shouldn't be mentioned at all in Llanrumney article. I am proposing that the detail concerning the school is moved to the school article. When the plans involve Llanrumney High School, Rumney High School, the Eastern Leisure Centre, the Rumney recreation Ground (in Llanrumney) the local community poll, the issue of public open space, issues of local democracy how can you divorce them from the school issue. They are one and the same thus the topic best fits on the Llanrumney page for the impact the plans could potentially have on the community either positive or negative. Not a problem. 3O is one of the best ways to sort out a dispute as the 3O provider will most likely have know knowledge or personal attachment to the theme of the article, and can therefore provide an unbiased opinion based purely on WP policy and guidelines.
