Proposed move of text

edit

I propose moving the text about the high school's closure (section School Reorganisation) to Llanrumney High School where it is most relevant. However Bluebirds27 has threatened to revert any such change. Discussions about the text can be seen at User talk:Welshleprechaun and User talk:Bluebirds27. Welshleprechaun (talk) 19:29, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welshleprechaun wishes to move text that has been written in the past 24 hours that is neutral, supported by 11 references (BBC, South Wales Echo, and Cardiff Council). The issue that I have added detail to and corrected, in contrast to the previous inaccurate entry, was already featured on the Llanrumney page. Now that the information is factually accurate Welshleprechaun no longer wants to allow people to view this topic on the Llanrumney page.

The issue of the council's plans do not simply involve the Llanrumney High School. They involve the future of the Eastern Leisure Centre, the Rumney Recreation Ground (which sits in Llanrumney) and the local community poll held in Llanrumney in 2009. To seek to marginalise this and exclude it from Llanrumney would be an error and one without any rationale.

Support moving the text, however keeping a short summary on this page. Jeni (talk) 20:49, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jeni there is a surprise. Absolutely no rationale given for your opinion. See my comments above impossible to divorce the issue from everything else ie Eastern Leisure Centre, Public Open Space, local community poll, and on and on the list goes. Will have to be determined by Wikipedia I fear. Shall e-mail for their advice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluebirds27 (talkcontribs) 21:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Actually that's not how things are done. There is no one magical person you can email to sort everything out. If you have a problem, you need to go through the appropriate channels. Read Wikipedia:Dispute resolution which tells you what to do when you have a dispute with other editors about anything. Welshleprechaun (talk) 21:32, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Very odd. You Welshleprechaun messages me saying "ok we will leave it as it is". Then immediately after the mysterious Jeni with not a single reason given supports your view back you come. The attempt at censorship is quite amazing. Today you have questioned my edits notability (notwithstanding the section already existed), then verifiability then have sought to move it from the Llanrumney page then you claimed you could not remember your incorrect earlier edits that wrongly stated in more than once place the date 2014 (earlier editions of pages can easily be viewed). It has been an eye opening introduction to Wikipedia and the lengths that you are willing to go to stop people viewing what is neutral and referenced text that directly involves the community of Llanrumney in a myriad of ways. I was actually trying to help you by informing you of where to go if you have a problem. You'll need to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia very quickly to understand how things work here. You'll understand that it is not about censorship or personal attacks against you. Maybe in a year or so, when you are an experienced editor, you'll look back on these messages and feel incredibly embarassed. Welshleprechaun (talk) 23:08, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

My concern is your attempts to stop what is already on the public record being shown on Wikipedia. You arguments have wandered all over the range but at heart what they've had in common is that you don't like the subject matter of these edits. You might protest that you don't care then why edit details like what political parties the Council and Deputy Council leader belong to? I think that is pretty much verifiable and is a part of the public record!

(Jesticle (talk) 01:56, 22 March 2010 (UTC))I Totally agree with keeping the edits made by Bluebirds27 where they are in the Llanrumney article. The plans obviously are not confined to the school. It does not make any sense to mention under facilities in the llanrumney article the Eastern Leisure Centre and then have the decisions being made affecting its future use on a different page under the llanrumney high school page. The edits that bluebirds27 has made are supported by references that are reputable and the text is totally neutral. what is the fuss all about. Reading it i would want it all to be within the llanrumney page as would most people. wikipedia pages are useful because you can scroll down through the information not jumping here there and everywhere with bitty information. Well done Bluebirds27 - I've never seen such opposition to such neutral well referenced facts. It makes me wonder what is actually going on here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jesticle (talkcontribs) 01:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC) Jesticle (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. Interesting how you account was created 20 minutes before this post Jesticle see here. It's like your account was created by someone with the whole purpose of arguing in support of Bluebirds27 with exactly the same argument. I am referring this for admin intervention against Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. Welshleprechaun (talk) 11:28, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Finally we might get some independent ruling on the whole matter. Why somebody would want to stunt the Llanrumney page of pertinent factual information needs to be resolved. I also had to edit the Llanrumney High School page where, as of yeaterday, it stated the new school was going to be built on the Llanrumney High School site. Pity that since 2007 Cardiff Council have stated that it was to be built on the Rumney Recreation Ground. Then again why concen yourself with Wikipedia having articles that are widely inaccurate and without supporting references?

I might make a suggestion as you are having difficulty understanding how the council's plans also concern Llanrumney's Eastern Leisure Centre, Llanrumney's parkland at the Rumney Recreation Ground, Llanrumney's local democracy and civic pride following the local community poll may I suggest that the sub-heading is edited so it does not read School Reorganisation thus satisfying the need for literal explanation. It could be called Cardiff Council's Development Plans for Llanrumney. I also intend, including references, writing about Alun Michael MP's bid to have the Rumney Recreation Ground designated as a village green - perhaps you will tell me that this should also not appear on the Llanrumney page? But without the preceding events it would make little sense to any reader looking for information about Llanrumney.

Origin of name

edit

I doubt that the 'Llan' in Llanrhymni comes from 'Llan' meaning church but believe that it comes from 'Glan' meaning bank of a river, by the river, Glan mutates to 'Lan' in Welsh which then becomomes confused with 'Llan' as it also mutates to 'Lan'. There are many examples of this and one clear one is 'Llancaiach' which is provably from 'Glancaiach' (again named after a river).

This has already been dicussed here http://kimkat.org/amryw/1_vortaroy/geiriadur_cymraeg_saesneg_BAEDD_d_1020e.htm where the same argument is made in and in http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=48204.

I'm intending to change the section in a couple of days unless someone can convince me otherwise! —Preceding unsigned comment added by EoinBach (talkcontribs) 23:51, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edward Augustus Freeman thought so, too: "The house I occupy, Lanrumney, or, I imagine, more correctly Glanrhymney..." (p. 274 in Freeman, Edward A. (1857).
