Updated Canadian constitution article

edit

Hi WatkynBassett, thought you might be interested in an article I recently expanded: Preamble to the Constitution Act, 1867. I don’t see any potential there for DYK, but might try for GA at some point. Hope all’s well. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 05:48, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I really admire your work on the Constitution Act! One day we will hopefully have a Wikipedia where you can access such high quality information on all the provisions of the constitutions of the world! Keep up the great work! WatkynBassett (talk) 12:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
And a new article on a constitutional court case: Attorney General of Ontario v Mercer. Subject matter rather dry (does an escheat go to the federal govt or the provincial govt?), but there’s some human interest in the underlying facts. Hope all’s well Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 04:11, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates

edit

I had to make a change to your otherwise very good Great Martyrdom of Edo article; rounding the coordinates. Google has taken to providing 16-digit coordinates in what is believed to be a copyright trap scheme. That level of precision is in the 1/100th of a micrometre range. WP:OPCOORD calls for always rounding or truncating coordinates (tldr: use DD°MM'SS" or D.dddd° for everything). Also, MOS:ORDER wants the Coord template placed just above the Categories on the bottom of pages. This is because if the Coord template is at the top it causes a glitch in the rendering of the article on certain mobile phones. Abductive (reasoning) 05:36, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Abductive: Many thanks for your advice regarding coordinates. I did not know any of this and will keep this in mind in the future. Happy editing! WatkynBassett (talk) 06:12, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Query re Ernst August von Hannover (born 1954)

edit

Hi Watkyn, I’ve got a question for you. I was noodling around and came across this article: Ernst August von Hannover (born 1954), the bad boy of former German princely families. It mentioned that he was seeking a retrial of his conviction for aggravated assault on a fellow in Kenya, but it didn’t say anything more than that. I found some sources that said the retrial was held in 2009, and added that update, but I can’t find out what happened! I’ve not found an English source with the outcome. Would you be interested in poking around to see if you can find out what happened? A source in German would work for the cite. Hope your summer is going well. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 15:54, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Mr Serjeant Buzfuz! Germany Wikipedia was very helpful in getting a grip on the procedural history of this long trial. I added the relevant outcome to the article. Please feel free to improve it further. If you are interested in this case you can find all the different decisions in this case here: https://dejure.org/dienste/vernetzung/rechtsprechung?Gericht=OLG%20Celle&Datum=28.04.2011&Aktenzeichen=31%20Ss%207%2F11 (in German ...). I hope this helps & I appreciate you reaching out. Hope you are doing well! WatkynBassett (talk) 20:19, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! I knew you would come through. Looks good. I've found one bit that I will add, about the jurisdiction of the German courts. (I'm surviving a hot summer here.) Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 02:19, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Council Working Parties

edit

I see you've got a fascinating one in the DYK Prep Area. As always with your work, I found it an interesting read. I was thinking of reviewing it for a QPQ, but got distracted and someone else snagged it. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:37, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your kind words, my friend. My reasoning for the article was that a better coverage of the arcane legislative process of the EU would be great. So I thought of doing my part by beginning with one new article. What did you create last? Anything you would recommend for me? I always enjoy reading your law work. WatkynBassett (talk) 07:16, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Nothing new on the law front. Took a bit of a wiki break. I do have a completely different DYK coming up (5X expansion). Looks like it will run on Oct 5: Blue Mountain Pottery. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 12:14, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I will give it a read! Something different is always nice ... :-) WatkynBassett (talk) 18:39, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Farnese Artemis

edit

On 9 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Farnese Artemis, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that while the objects on the Farnese Artemis (pictured) had initially been identified as female breasts, the museum housing the statue now claims that they depict bull scrotums? Fascinating! No German law issue, so I didn't realise it was your work! And along those lines, I too had an art DYK this week, but not so flamboyant: the Blue Mountain Pottery one: October 7 archive. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:14, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

PS - I've added a query to the Error page: Can we use "claim" in a hook on the Main Page, which is not permitted in articles? Not a critique of your excellent article; I'm genuinely perplexed whether that aspect of the MOS applies to hooks. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
And a query: how did you come across this mysterious ceramic ware? Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:18, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Mr Serjeant Buzfuz: I actually totally forgot about WP:CLAIM, so I am grateful to you for catching this. A lot of coincidences let to this article: Something happening in real life informed me about the existence of the statue, I searched for it on Wikipedia and found nothing. Then I saw that this statue regularly attracts a lot of interest from social media (see for example: on reddit). That got me researching, which was surprisingly hard, but I somehow got a small (and very hookable) article out of it. Quite nice that we both got DYKs with pictures within a few days from each other on the main page! All the best to you! WatkynBassett (talk) 19:24, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
