Deletion discussion about David S. Liem

edit

Hello V.B.Speranza, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, David S. Liem, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David S. Liem.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

@CFA Well, the description is based of the picture present in the infobox, how may I exactly source something everyone can see? V.B.Speranza (talk) 22:14, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Writing your own description based on what you see in the image is original research. You should rewrite and cite the section using a description in a reliable, secondary source. C F A 💬 22:38, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@CFA I based my description directly on observable features from a photograph, ensuring it remains neutral and factual. Since the details are easily verifiable by anyone viewing the image, I believe this aligns with Wikipedia's commitment to accuracy and neutrality. Additionally, the information presented is purely descriptive and does not constitute original research or analysis. If it were some part of the history of the structure i would agree and delete that information, as I’ve done before, however I don’t think this goes against the original research policy and it definitely isn’t overshadowing the rest of article, that I’ve provided a source to practically every sentence. V.B.Speranza (talk) 23:21, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@CFA The article has been a submitted draft for 6 weeks, it has no pov, structure of source problems… I see no reason to why it wasn’t promoted to the main space…

Trying to help you

edit

At Talk:2024 United Kingdom riots#Far right label you made the case that Wikipedia articles are vulnerable to a systemic left-wing bias. What you wrote was interesting.

But an article talk page exists to support improvements to the article, or in some cases to discuss reasons why the article should be broken up into several different articles. So generalised criticisms of systemic bias are not welcomed. (Maybe they should be welcomed, but they are not.)

In the discussion, I briefly mentioned scrubbing the article in July. I did this because I realised that there were claims that the rioters were far right, but the sources did not exactly say that. So I used a combination of edits to the article and explanations of the article talk page to fix the problem. Explanations and deletions that I made were in terms of Wikipedia policy.

Since then, the article has changed a lot, and sources have talked about the rioters/protesters being far right, and several articles have contrasted claims not to be racist with what they said (which the journalist suggested was racist).

One thing you could do would be to go through the article checking that claims of rioters/protesters being far right are supported by the sources cited for the statements. That would be a useful thing to do, but it is unlikely to remove the impression that the riots were the work of the far right.

My impression is that left-biased editors were cleansing the article of stuff that made the so-called "anti-fascist" demonstrators look bad. if you look at the BBC website, you can find stuff that showed that so-called "anti-fascist" demonstrators also did bad things, including posting misleading information on the internet intended to inflame public opinion against far right rioters/protesters. (My impression is that so-called "anti-fascists" have more in common with the far right, than they do with ordinary normal people like you and I.)

Please be careful what you write on Wikipedia. -- Toddy1 (talk) 15:22, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Toddy1 Unfortunately the only thing i could have done was to point out the situation... The majority of wikipedians seems to agree with certain statements and views that favor left wing politics... a common example is to see the pages for fascism (were its described with what happened IRL, pointing out the dictators and bad things that happened under said regimes, as it should) and communism (that ignores many atrocities under communist regimes and focuses more on the theory of what "true communism is"). I stand with my point regardless. V.B.Speranza (talk) 16:47, 13 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Toddy1 I've looked at that article. The term anti-fascist is thrown around far too lightly. Some comes from local newspapers who I think were just looking for an easy label. One was sourced but nothing in the text was in the source, including the term anti-fascist. Being anti-racist or supporting migrants does not make you anti-fascist, but I would certainly hope that most people in the UK and most editors here are anti-fascist. I'm sure you are. And yes, some of the people opposing the anti-immigration protests did things they shouldn't, but those didn't approach burning down hotels, etc and I don't think they are comparable. I also agree that not all of the bad guys were far right. although I expect most of the organisers were. @V.B.Speranza good to see that you have made your pov clear, although without evidence. Doug Weller talk 07:19, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, if i remember correctly, i first found a redlink to Shakhdara (river) and I created the article. Only then, i found out there was already an article Shakhdara River, created by you. I realised i had just created a double entry and decided to merge both articles. I added your reference to Vladimir Gavrilov in my article, and made your article a redirect. I could also have done it the other way around. So, this was no deliberate attack on your article, just an expansion of the subject under an other name. Kind regards, Filiep (talk) 06:40, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Santos Passos Church

edit

On 23 August 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Santos Passos Church, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Santos Passos Church in Guimarães, Portugal, was declared a royal chapel by King Luís I in 1878? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Santos Passos Church. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Santos Passos Church), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
