Article DYK-nominated, please comment and support

edit

An interesting Ukraine-related article is nominated for WP:DYK now.

Please comment and support by clicking this link.

Thank you, Ukrained2012 (talk) 10:01, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ukrained2012, DYK nominations aren't a support/oppose-type thing. You simply need to meet the criteria. Right now, it turns out you need to add more material to the article, since the nomination doesn't qualify under the 2x BLP expansion rule due to pre-existing references (these days, it's just about impossible to find articles around that qualify), and must meet the 5x expansion instead. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:51, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your input, though I've never said it was "a support/oppose-type thing". Ukrained2012 (talk) 21:47, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I notice you said that there were updates about the Interstate Aviation Committee. And so I took a look at your edits:

Ukraine accident investigation agency

edit

Ukrained, I heard there was a National Bureau for Air Accidents Investigations, and Sealle found some sources about it:

With what Sealle found, are you interested in starting an article on the agency? Do you know where its website is? Does it have PDF files of its investigation reports? Perhaps I can also make requests to have this article started on the Ukranian and Russian Wikipedias Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 21:56, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I could certainly stub it. Thanks for hinting, I'll do some research. Ukrained2012 (talk) 22:02, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ukraine National Bureau for Civilian Aircraft Events and Accidents Investigations is a provisional English name. Ukrained2012 (talk) 22:09, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Awesome :) - I'll add it to Template:Aviation_accident_orgs (it listed the IAC as Ukraine's agency as with the other post-Soviet countries other than the Baltics which are not IAC/MAK members) WhisperToMe (talk) 22:21, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Azerbaijan may be another country that is a part of the IAC treaty that doesn't use the IAC for accident investigations. I never found an entry for the Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 217 (2005) on the IAC list. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:24, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done, no website so far( Thanks again, Ukrained2012 (talk) 22:39, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

No problem! Another thing that could be useful is, for the history section, to see if it is known what was the accident investigation before the National Bureau for Civilian Aircraft Events and Accidents Investigations was formed. Was it another Ukrainian agency? I'll look and see if there were any Ukraine-related incidents in the IAC list other than the Black Sea incident. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:47, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that the State Aviation Service of Ukraine with the Ministry of Transportation/Infrastructure was a sole civil aviation regulator and a chief national counterpart to ICAO. Than the ICAO probably demanded an investigation body to be fully independent of the market and tariffs regulator (which SAS is). Wishes, Ukrained2012 (talk) 22:56, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok. In the meantime I found uk:Будинок Міністерства інфраструктури України which seems to be about the Ministry of Infrastructure building. Do you know when it was inaugurated? There isn't yet an English Wikipedia article about this building WhisperToMe (talk) 23:05, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The UA article says it was completed in 1986 as an Aeroflot premise, renovated in 2003 (at which point it became home for the Ministry). 2003 fits "inaugurated" navbox parameter. Ukrained2012 (talk) 23:41, 29 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

History categories

edit

Hi

I replied to your post on the Ukraine project talk page.

Basically I said that we have this timeline, worked on by lots of us, and it may be best to try and follow that basic outline when creating the categories.

The timeline is easily pasted into articles by putting

in. It automatically justifies itself to the right.

Dear Ukrained2012. Please leave this article alone - you have no authority to delete it. It was clearly not a "mistake" on my part - it is obvious that I wrote a new article, adding content, an image and a template. The article is consistent with its inter-wiki corresponding articles. If you feel strongly enough that it should be nominated for deletion - then please prepare your case and present it using the correct procedure via WP:AFD. --Very trivial (talk) 04:29, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nominating to block Shervinsky

edit

I noticed that you left a comment on Shervinsky's talk page regarding blanking. He/she has just indulged in a serious free-for-all blanking, redacting and basically dragging in vast tracts of fairly illiterate translations of RU Wikipedia material, and blatantly heavily biased, into the Name of Ukraine article, not even bothering to add edit comments regarding any of them. Even more unfortunately, they are literate enough to be comprehended and I am unable to just hit the 'undo' button due to the number of them, so I've applied for a RevisionDelete in order that Shervinsy's behaviour remain on record.

Given that these 'edits' have been made over the period of only a few days, and that your warning was issued prior the series of edits of the "Name of Ukraine" article, I would suggest his/her activity is going to escalate rather than subside. Would you be willing to back me up on a request to block this user? --Iryna Harpy (talk) 02:51, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing instructions and Wikipedia:Translation, please familarise yourself with both. Adding content like this and tagging it for somebody else to fix is not the way to make Wikipedia better--Jac16888 Talk 22:37, 15 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ukrained2012. The article you started — Kamyanets-Podilsky Ivan Ohienko National University already existed as Ivan Ohienka Kamianets-Podilskyi National University, though it was very "bare-bones". So as not to have a duplicate I merged it with your new article and made a redirect. Tip: look at the interwiki links on the page your translating from, or at least do a search on the relevant wiki page, or if all else fails, try a Google search eg. "Kamyanets-Podilsky national university site:wikipedia.org". :-) --Very trivial (talk) 07:27, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

You may not delete demonstrably relevant pictures merely because you disagree with their captions, or relevant referenced paragraph only because you dispute particular sentences in it. Please add templates, rewrite and provide better refs instead. As for question, no opinion for now. The text that you challenged is far from perfect so nobody demands to leave it as it was. Wishes, Ukrained2012 (talk) 20:35, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I just think that it's normal for a Wikipedia article to have a "In fact" section, and not somewhere at the end, but right after the lede before the history section, and giving information only about one country the article subject has to do with. Moved to where it belongs to... --78.84.42.190 (talk) 20:51, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

AfD for the Ukrainian Wikipedia

edit

Hi Ukrained2012. You have used Twinkle to leave me a message on my talk page where you warn me against "introducing deliberate factual errors" on a page I never edited (Ukrainian Wikipedia) and you called me a troll for nominating an article at AfD. You've been on Wikipedia for over a year now, so by now you're expected to know that such behaviour is not welcome as it counts as an egregious breach of WP:AGF. Especially calling people 'trolls' and threatening action at ANI for wanting to delete an article you think should be kept is very disruptive and also unlikely to influence the AfD debate in your favour.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 19:29, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I've been her for MUCH longer, but who counts. My strong belief is that you've severely understudied the subject (for whatever reason) before filing that AfD request, and I expect no "debate" on such an obvious issue. Thank you, Ukrained2012 (talk) 19:38, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's not a sufficient reason for calling me a troll or falsely accusing me of adding factual errors, and calling people names for spurious reason in itself could be considered a form of trolling. If you want to take this matter to ANI you can do that, but I don't think you'd get any support whatsoever, and in fact you might well be warned against making similarly deceptive accusations in the future.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 19:45, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
In fact, I was only choosing a proper TW template, and picked up that of "factual errors" as the closest to my objections. I'm deeply sorry if you were upset about that message. Also, my sincere indication that you've probably abused AfD procedure by filing a moot request was not a "deceptive accusation" at all. Looking forward to eventually fruitful cooperation with you, Ukrained2012 (talk) 20:08, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Can you find any policy that says something against starting AfDs? If not, it was a "deceptive accusation", as are your continued accusation that I "abused AfD procedure" without providing any evidence of that, which despite your non-apologies points to a continued lack of good faith on your part.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 20:58, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
And still you're continuing with your personal attacks against me, this time by hiding behind the pretence of 'humble guesses' and similar junk. I would highly recommend that you remove that message and avoid similar ones in the future.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 21:12, 20 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Good idea, but you should never violate in use tags anyway. I'm going offline soon (and will remove THE TAG), so you can start our sandboxed versions (at article talk?). We could schedule the sandbox implementations for, say, every 8 hours? Ukrained2012 (talk) 23:03, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
there was no talk page discussion about a shutdown, and using a tag like that on an article that is also a developing news story is not the best idea IMO. Discretionary sanctions notification

edit
The Arbitration Committee has permitted administrators to impose discretionary sanctions (information on which is at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions) on any editor who is active on pages broadly related to Eastern Europe. Discretionary sanctions can be used against an editor who repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, satisfy any standard of behavior, or follow any normal editorial process. If you inappropriately edit pages relating to this topic, you may be placed under sanctions, which can include blocks, a revert limitation, or an article ban. The Committee's full decision can be read at the "Final decision" section of the decision page.

Please familiarise yourself with the information page at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions, with the appropriate sections of Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Procedures, and with the case decision page before making any further edits to the pages in question. This notice is given by an uninvolved administrator and will be logged on the case decision, pursuant to the conditions of the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions system.

Please note: This notice does not imply wrong doing, it is used in an advisory capacity only. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 00:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Airports in Ukraine

edit

OK, so my change is slightly unusual, but it's really because there is no separate page for List_of_the_busiest_airports_in_Ukraine as there is with other countries - it just redirects to List_of_airports_in_Ukraine. I suppose the correct thing really is to separate the information into 2 distinct pages and then move the navboxes about busiest airports to the relevant wiki page. Gratifying though to see that someone is looking at my edits and making me think about what I'm doing though ! Pmbma (talk) 15:47, 6 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

A list _of_the_busiest_airports_in_Ukraine would be so short that it won't warrant separate article( Ukrained2012 (talk) 09:06, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:48, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
