Paid editing
editHello Trumpetguy19. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Trumpetguy19. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Trumpetguy19|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 13:52, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Theroadislong,
- I think I put in the paid template on the talk page of the draft article. The business I am writing about no longer exists, is there still significant conflict of interest if I'm writing on something that no longer exists, but has significance in the community around it. Also, where can I find what constitutes a secondary source for Wikipedia. Trumpetguy19 (talk) 14:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi again,
- I sort of misunderstood the question as well. I'm only being paid for edits related to the Pythodd room. I'm not a paid editor in the sense of working for a company to edit Wikipedia. I am only receiving compensation for the Pythodd article. All of my other edits on Wikipedia are entirely volunteer with no compensation financial or otherwise. Sorry for the confusion, I've never gone through the process of creating an article before (or being a part of any internship for that matter). Trumpetguy19 (talk) 15:18, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Johannes, thanks for the review reply. I'd like some clarification on what you specifically mean in terms of not citing unreliable sources in the comment you left on the most recent revision. If you have a specific source you'd like replaced I'd appreciate knowing which one(s) so that I can finalize my draft. Thanks again and have a great weekend! edit- Thank you so much! Trumpetguy19 (talk) 17:16, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- A couple other things, a Master's Thesis is not a reliable source (footnote 4) so you will need to remove that one as well. The section about Clarissa Street is mostly WP:UNDUE. Only a couple sentences are warranted as the focus should be on the club, not the street or neighborhood. With that said, there may be enough in-depth coverage in sources for Clarissa Street to warrant it's own article (i.e. Bourbon Street, see also Cotton Club and Lenox Avenue...though Lenox needs some work). It's something to consider if your internship allows the time do so...or even better, volunteer some of your time here like the rest of us. :) Seriously though, you did put up well-written draft. It just needs some work to meet Wikipedia's sourcing/notability guidelines. S0091 (talk) 18:25, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- @FloridaArmy ha! Two minds thinking a like! I see you have moved the draft to Draft:Clarissa Street as I was typing this note. S0091 (talk) 18:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Johannes, thanks for the speedy review and feedback! I'm going to go back and look over the sources to see how I can fix them up. However, it would be very helpful if you could provide me with a sense of which specific sources were unreliable. I have an external list of other sources that I can verify, I'd just like to know exactly which sources were unreliable so that I can fix them and resubmit. Also, were there any other issues with the draft that you'd like to see addressed in the next revision? If so, just let me know when you reply to this message. Thanks again and I hope I can revise these sources quickly and get this article past review. Trumpetguy19 (talk) 19:38, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Clarissa Street
editI'd recommend U Street (Washington, D.C.) as a model for an article with the information about Clarissa Street on it. That may be easier to get published in the short term and may help straighten things out.Naraht (talk) 18:02, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Naraht! Thanks for the info, I’ll check it out. I don’t have enough information or sourcing to do a whole article on Clarissa Street at the moment, but the U Street information should help out with the historical background for the Pythodd. Eventually, I intend to create an article on Clarissa Street but that’s a totally separate project for now. Trumpetguy19 (talk) 18:07, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Trumpetguy19. As another editor interested in Rochester topics, I have noticed your good work at The Pythodd Room and Draft:Clarissa Street. I think there are plenty of sources for an article on Clarissa Street, but I think the scope of the article should cover the entire old third ward and the title should be "Corn Hill" to reflect the modern common name of the neighborhood (as used by the city government and the local neighborhood association). Here are two additional articles on the neighborhood which I used at Rochester, New York:
- Clarissa Street Reunion: A vital Rochester neighborhood gathers to remember what happened
- Where were you in 1969? Corn Hill Arts Festival looks back

S0091 (talk) 16:25, 25 March 2024 (UTC)- Finally, right?! I did do a heavy trim to remove the content about Clarissa/the neighborhood but don't forget most of it still exists at Draft:Clarissa Street, I also added the Promising Draft template which will keep it around for at least another year. Another editor might pick it up or if you ever have time/interest you can. Hope you enjoy your spring break! S0091 (talk) 17:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks!! I'll probably come back to Clarissa street over the summer. Hopefully some other editors get involved too! Trumpetguy19 (talk) 18:12, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
