Reviewer granted
editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 20:31, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

editThanks for the note. I do remember doing the edit, but I can't remember why I didnt complete at the time. Maybe I got distracted or maybe I found some non standard cases on page B and couldnt figure it out. I can run a script to do an auto conversion, but it's probably worth getting the template right first (ie extending out for all the possible optional information). I'm not a great template expert but I think there's some kind of { { if } } tag to help do this. I'll start a discussion on the template tag talk page to try and get consensus on what should be in the templates.ChrisUK (talk) 20:20, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tagishsimon; i wonder if you can help. An addition you added here to the above wikticle seems to be substantially the same as a chunk of text from here. Did they take it from us, or is it possible you inadvertently violated copyright? If the former, no worries; if the latter, maybe we can work on eliminating it. London Wikimedia Fundraiser
editGood evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wiki.x.io/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.
Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 00:02, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Artur Balder References
edit- References: I dont know if it should be done here, but I will add some references below.
There are references to Artur Balder as writer in the most important Spanish media. I list some of them:
El País, published for instance in nacional sites, culture, books 2006: http://www.elpais.com/articulo/cultura/Artur/Balder/triunfa/narrativa/infantil/debuta/historica/elpepicul/20060610elpepicul_5/Tes?print=1
On the other hand it is strange that someone can state that may be the Artur Balder of Little Spain is not the same as the Artur BAlder of the books, since at the official site of the documentary you can download the press kit in high resolution, and in the chapter that it dedicates to the director, Artur Balder is the author of El Evangelio de la Espada, Crónicas de Widukind, and this is too in the GERMAN wikipedia stated. Both links:
http://little-spain.us/Little_Spain_Prensa_2010.pdf
http://de.wiki.x.io/wiki/Artur_Balder
The Little Spain official site links to an official Flickr site where is clear to see the references of Artur Balder. I invite you to visit the www.little-spain.us
Artur Balder is author of, as far as I know, 7 novels, some them translated into 8 languages, including nederlands, italian, french, with major publishing houses. The publishing house in spanish for his fantasy fiction is Random House Mondadori. You can read at the corporate website of RHM the recommendation of the author:
http://www.randomhousemondadori.com/Sellos/SellosFicha.aspx?Idioma=En&id=15
The historical fiction is being published by Edhasa, a major prestigious publishing house in Spain:
The official site for its last historical fiction, published in november 2010, had a shortfilm for promotion of the saga, and all the information is available in english, german and spanish, with an excerpt of the book in russian, too:
htt://www.widukind.eu
References caused by announcement the documentary of "Little Spain":
Looking at the search result you can see ALL the spanish media in the list in the first 100 results, from La Vanguardia, El País, El Mundo, La Razón... Just all. There is consensus about the relevance of the work of Artur Balder in relationship with the restoring of the historical memory of a large number of immigrants in New York City and Little Spain.
The information, that was not intended primarly to the american media, was however trnaslated from agency EFE AMERICA reports into the pages of the Chicago Tribune and Latin American Herald Tribune, and translated into english:
Particularly the link to The Latin American Herald Tribune:
http://laht.com/article.asp?CategoryId=13003&ArticleId=378105
And this is the resulat of a first private screening at La Nacional, the Spanish Benevolent Society of NY, last november, for the Spanish media and media agencies. Wikipedists have to know that the documentary is going to be released in a major film festival of New york city in 2011, but I cannot write down the name since it will be 100% sure.
The IMDb has accepted the credits of Balder's work in film industry during the last 10 years:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3470412/
Articles about Artur Balder are present in about 10 languages of Wikipedia, included the german one.
I hope I can rebuild a logical article about the subject, and later continue adding other contributions since there are a lot of historical interesting discoverings at 14th street of Manhattan in relationship with its Spanish American past.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:A4540 no tag.jpg
editA tag has been placed on File:A4540 no tag.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja 22:40, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Cromford and High Peak Railway.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Cromford and High Peak Railway.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 04:15, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
National Railway Museum
editHi Simon, your edit profile and images are evidence of your suitability to help the NRM and I have come across you virtually a number of times. I have met 3 NRM staff who want to work with us and two (3?) of them just need some assistance. We plan to hold a meeting there around June 22 which we would like you to attend as well, but we'd hope that we had started to assist them by then. As you are close then can I suggest that I put you in immediate contact with our lead person inside the building. If you could "adopt them" and look over their edits then I think they will make a useful contribution and I'm sure you will get an inside track on this interesting work. They intend to write a lot of articles about railway based paintings, but the first hurdle is for them to learn how to edit. Wikimedia UK (Who raise money and pay for Wikipedia etc~) are enthusiastic about the NRM and we really appreciate your offer of help. Do write on my talk page if you need any assistance to make this work. We would expect to pay reasonable for instance. It might be useul if you send me an email so you don't expose yours or our contacts. I am Victuallers on gmail. Thanks again Victuallers (talk) 14:13, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

York meetup
editHi. I'm still on for the Punchbowl this evening, but how do I know who is a Wikipedian/Wikimedian and who isn't? Are we in a private room or will there be some obvious sign, like a banner or WP teeshirts. Or will I have to ask around or what? All helpful information gratefully received. --GuillaumeTell 15:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm. Bare minimum wasn't satisfactory, I'm afraid. I arrived at the Punchbowl a minute or two after 7pm. The pub was quite busy. I bought a pint and wandered around, trying to work out who might be Wikipedians and who not. I approached a few likely-looking groups ("Excuse me, I'm supposed to be meeting a few people here, but I don't know what they look like - are you expecting anyone to join you?") but the answer was always no. Nobody accosted me. I assumed that you'd all be sitting at a table, but none of the tables looked very likely. I even looked out for purple tops, but I'm slightly colour-blind and can't easily distinguish purple from blue. Anyway, by 7.20 I'd finished my pint and was feeling fed up so I went home. My journey wasn't entirely wasted, as I needed to pick up some rail tickets at the station (and I try not to drink too much beer for waistline reasons), but wandering around in pubs feeling embarrassed and accosting people isn't really my thing - and they might even have thought that I was up to no good.
- The above is partly my fault, as I should have contacted you and other attendees a lot earlier than this afternoon, but still ....
- More constructively, and FWIW, my thoughts on the matter are:
- Choose a pub with a meeting-room, or a smaller pub
- If that isn't possible/convenient, exchange photos (mine can be found at Wikipedia:Online_Ambassadors/Mentors) and say in advance what you're wearing
- Perhaps print off individual name-badges in some common format and wear them
- Or wear some unusual article of clothing, or carry an unusual object, again notified in advance
- --GuillaumeTell 21:49, 21 June 2011 (UTC) aka Disgruntled of York
- More constructively, and FWIW, my thoughts on the matter are:
Thanks for the note - water under the bridge now. I suppose I could have taken a book and hung around longer, but I was expecting that there'd be people there at or not long after 7pm. Hope the NRM thing went well. Ironically, I received this morning my free WP Online Ambassador sweatshirt/hoodie. Now, if it had arrived a day earlier... --GuillaumeTell 15:58, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
KMIC Conference Workshop
editHi Simon,
Great to meet you today. Hope you got something out of it too! Our student conference is visible here: https://kminterconference.wikispaces.com/ (treacherous I know, but it seemed to fit the bill at the time) The Workshops are on the Friday pm (15th July) and I think a Wikipedia workshop would be brilliant. I'm still waiting for confirmation from my co-organisers whether they are up for a non-student running something. If you could confirm your availability that would be brilliant. - Pat's gig is in York. But we do have another gig in Manchester ... I'll talk to you this evening about it all and we can work out who's fielding which meeting. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:01, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
I wasn't alerting people to a discussion. I was trying to start a new one in a more appropriate place for wider community involvement. I pointed out the other current discussion purely for informational purposes. I've separated my own opinion out from the request. Please let me know if that resolves your canvassing concerns or not. --Onorem♠Dil 20:41, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- I made another change to try to clarify my intent. I would appreciate if you would remove the extra discussion if you're now OK with my notice. (since I'm kinda the implied bad guy in the situation and don't want to ruffle any feathers) As to your last note, I want it at the village pump so that it sees a wider audience. Previous discussions on this took place there, on ANI, and through RFC I think. This is a guideline change on something that has been in place for years. The top of the VPP page says that The policy section of the village pump is used to discuss proposed policies and guidelines and changes to existing policies and guidelines. --Onorem♠Dil 20:52, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Blair Peach
editI agree with you about the place Peach was attacked as being worth geocoding as a significant location, but I don't think it is right to put it in the title area as "his" location; being attacked was not the only significant event in his life; even if you regard his death as the most significant, you have a choice of locations -- place of attack, place of death, place of burial... This statement was present, in different forms, in both the union's claims and in the official inquiry response.

Copyedits
editI just had a quick look at two of the articles you recently copy-edited, as I do with all new GOCE members. Please ensure that you take care with:
- Dates - ... January 1 2000 ... ... January 1, 2000, ...
- "A passenger train (was or became) derailed by a ravine ..." -> "A passenger train was derailed close to a ravine..."
- Refs should be after punctuation, not before them - Hello hello<ref>Blah blah<ref/>. Hello hello.<ref>Blah blah<ref/>
Murazze di Vado train disaster The rest of my changes were not that notable, general grammar and prose. To see what changes I made you can check the diff [2].
I also re-edited Circumvesuviana derailment- the diffs are here [3]:
- English most common names should be followed as per WP:COMMONNAME - Mount Vesuvius, not Vesuvio (and especially as the article goes on to use Naples, not Napoli). If both are to be included, one should be in brackets, eg: Mount Vesuvius (Vesuvio in Italian)
- Numbers as words rather than numbers - Seventy-one rather than 71
- Times - 11:10 not 11.10
- Plurals - severe damages -> severe damage
Do not take this as a criticism, it is intended to help you understand how you might improve your copy-editing skills. Please try and read more WP:MoS guides, particularly the linked sub-guides such as Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers), and perhaps consider doing some of the exercises on the GOCE copy-editing pages Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/How to.

Geotagging roads articles
editI noticed the discussion about tagging roads related articles and although the proposal thats been put forward by Rschen isn't a perfect one it seems like an ok compromise. I noticed you didn't support or oppose it so I was wondering if you had any opinions about that disussion. M5 coordinates
editHi User:Tagishsimon,
I have undone most of the coordinates that you entered into the M5 article. I appreciate the work that you put into it, but may I refer you to the discussion at WP:RJL regarding coordinates. Basically the roads group have not come to a consensus regarding the way in which coordinatesd could be incoprorated into into road junction lists. However two points did come out of the discussions:
- There should not be a separate column for cooridinates. There was no consensus as to how they should be displayed, but the style in the M5 article (as restored by me) recevied favourable mention.
- The number of coordinates in a list should be limited. A maximum of 10 was suggested.
I have taken what I consider to be the most important coordinats that you catalogued and worked them into the text.

Predispute version
editHello, I see you reverted edits to the predispute versions of two pages: Horse Lava Tube System and Arnold Lava Tube System. It appears you have favored to make the reversion to somewhere in the middle of the dispute. Could you review your edits please? The predispute version should lie somewhere before a date of recent editing. Not in the middle of a recent edit war. Leitmotiv (talk) 19:31, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- I've taken both back to the point at which The Anomebot2 tagged them. Your edit warring started immediately after that. As you note on one of the talk pages, this business should be left until there is a decision one way or another on whether US caves have an opt-out from the wikipedia convention of tagging things. You should not jump the gun. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:18, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, if I'm not mistaken The Anomebot tagged them in April. It's December. The last edit prior to the edit war was by Leitmotiv in April. That should be your revert so it doesn't favor anyone in the edit war. By the way, I have been waiting for the decision on the cave infoboxes re: coordinates. If you had read the original discussion, you would know that the original state of the cave infobox is no coordinates! So really, it is Pigsonthewing who is jumping the gun, and not vice versa as you put it. Please, review your edits under this new information please. Thank you. Leitmotiv (talk) 18:41, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- The meta-discussion is whether or not caves should have coordinates. Whether they're in the infobox or not is a detail. You're pushing your POV, which is fine on talk pages but not in article space. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:13, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- No you're wrong. Currently, the cave infobox has no coordinate field. The UK cave infobox was made to add a coordinate field. Hence the discussion at that page. Please review your analysis. Leitmotiv (talk) 16:35, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- As I said, the meta-discussion is whether or not caves should have coords or not. Coords in the infobox is an implementation detail; many caves have coords but no infobox, for example. I'm content that marking geo-locatable articles with {{coord missing}} is a de facto standard for wikipedia, one for which US caves does not, to my knowledge, have consensus to duck. I understand that you would prefer I reverted to your preferred version, but you'll forgive me if I dissent on this occasion. Better that you settle the meta-discussion than keep nagging away at this thread. --Tagishsimon (talk) 01:04, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Nobody's nagging, just disagreeing sir. Sorry you feel that way. Infoboxes are designed for coordinates as you well know. I'm also sorry you chose to "dissent" from your duty to revert to a version prior to the edit war and instead do it squarely in the middle of it. You have failed your duty and have shown biased preference. Good day. Leitmotiv (talk) 02:28, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that you're not able to agree at which edit the war began: IMO that was your first reversion. --Tagishsimon (talk) 02:34, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your assistance
editHey, I really appreciate your effort, going out of your way to weigh in on a second article—especially one where I was in such a difficult spot. I can imagine how busy you must be with your own projects, so I'm very grateful for your help.
Fortunately, my experience has been that most editors understand I mean to make Wikipedia better on topics where I have a potential COI; unfortunately, Orangemike is exactly the opposite. It's been a long while since I've run into him, but if I have trouble like that in the future, I hope you'd be willing to help again. Also, I have added both Cracker Barrel and Dee Dee Myers to my list of improved articles—always was the plan, but I finally got around to it this morning.
If there was a barnstar for COI assistance, it would surely accompany this message. Maybe I should make one. Thanks again, WWB Too (talk) 15:29, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Having problems with another editor
editHello there, Tagishsimon. You'd recently offered to help if I ran into trouble over my (I always intend) rule-following COI work, and I'm sorry to have to ask for your input already. I'm afraid this is the most concise, clear explanation I can give:
- Recently, I researched and wrote a draft for a relatively modest new article about a 45-year-old trade association, the Association of Global Automakers, on their behalf, and began my engagement disclosed as such.
- Because there was no article at the time, hence no Talk page to begin this outreach, I took it to WikiProject Automobiles on November 21, where I received feedback from two editors (User:Charles01 and User:Mr.choppers), whose advice I incorporated to the extent I was able. Although Mr.choppers expressed some dissatisfaction with my effort, he also agreed it passed WP:NOTE and said he would have no further comment.
- Assuming this was good enough, on December 21, I moved the article from my userspace into the mainspace, left a note of disclosure with a link back to the WikiProject Autos discussion, and figured that was it.
- The next day, another member of WikiProject Autos (User:Jenova20) added 4 warning tags to the article, which currently remain. I asked him for a better explanation of the warnings, and presented my view as to why they weren't necessary, first on his page and then on the Global Automakers Talk page. I let the matter go over Christmas weekend, but Jenova20 has not been active since December 23.
- On December 28, the Global Automakers discussion page attracted the attention of two different editors, User:Biker Biker and User:Scheinwerfermann. Biker Biker at least made some edits to the article, but hasn't said what would need to be fixed in order to for the tags to be resolved.
- Scheinwerfermann is a bit of a different story: he has spent a lot of time lecturing me in general terms about COI and his unspecified disapproval of the article, but I think by now it's very clear he doesn't want to help make the article better, he just wants to frustrate my efforts. Although I've remained as carefully polite as he has not, I am just about done assuming good faith on his part. (He's even just deleted a friendly reply from me on his Talk page, so I am further vexed.) Looking at his edit history, it seems that his general M.O. includes willful rudeness even toward longtime editors. I wouldn't say he's threatening me per se, but it seems like he's going in that direction.
- Scheinwerfermann aside, my principal frustration is that I have asked multiple editors for addressable feedback, and nothing has recently been forthcoming. At WikiProject Automobiles, I fielded some suggestions from Mr.choppers about what sort of critical information should be included; for the handful of suggestions, I found no third-party sources, and sought to show my work. No one else has offered anything concrete, and my requests have been met with accusations of rushing.
- For your convenience, the two most important threads are Association of Global Automakers, proposed article review request at WikiProject Automobiles and Bias tags on the Global Automakers discussion page. They are getting a bit long, but they're at least fairly self-contained.
At this point, I think the only way forward is to bring in new perspectives. You came to mind first, but I'm not trying to forum-shop, merely to widen this discussion to include some fair-minded, solution-oriented editors. I would understand if you didn't want to get involved personally, but I really could use some outside advice on how to proceed. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 20:22, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your comments, particularly on Jimbo's page. Very gratifying, considering the recent headaches. Ironically, I now think the NPOV template is warranted, at least on the Advocacy and lobbying section as Scheinwerfermann has reworked it. Among other problems, the Safety standards sub-section is a particularly absurd bit of original research, based on a strange extrapolation from the source he's provided. At the risk of pushing my luck, I'll probably write a concise summary for the Talk page this coming week, and see how that goes. Thanks again, WWB Too (talk) 19:23, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Star Party and Peak Star Party website
editHi Tagishsimon,
thanks for the helpful feedback on the PSP page - much appreciated. Hopefully the latest version explains why it is a notable event (even if quite small, it is surprisingly high impact in the rural Peak District!).
Also, you comment on the Star Party page that you will keep the "Peak Star Party" link red, but the entire sentence I added appears to have been deleted. Was this intentional - if so, can you explain why please?
Thanks again,
James.

Peak Star Party page
editHi again,
just thought - this may need another page describing what PDDS is - it isn't a local astro society but a regional charity incorporating about 8 societies in the region with support from the Peak District National Park Authority and Nottingham Trent University. We haven't registered with the Charities Commission yet but have met all the criteria (turnover, etc.) and will do so as soon as we have agreed the Trustees and the final remit, etc. We also need to formalise the links we are building with Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham and Keele Universities to really get the education side of things fully supported.
I was planning on getting all of this sorted out before adding to Wikipedia but can sort out at least an outline page early on if necessary.
Thanks,
James.

License tagging for File:M11 Google Example.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:M11 Google Example.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 12:05, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Responding to Your message about Proposal on Geotagging
editGot your message and in response I have looked at the proposal about geotagging and voted to oppose. This is the first I had heard about it. These Wiki-disputes are amazingly wrong-headed. Thanks for the alert. --Mdukas (talk) 16:08, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hey. Just letting you know that this is blatant canvassing and will be dealt with accordingly, as some of your project members even called you out on. --Rschen7754 19:13, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Saw your note about kml files for items such as highways. I guess the good thing about a single point of data is that many online maps can place that point. In that way, depending on the map, you could tell if a lighthouse was near water, if Stonehenge is on a hill, or what kind of soil lies under the leaning tower of Pisa. What seems more important is a common interface to maps than having the "best" solution for a wikipedia page. Anyway, thank you very much for letting me know that other people are thinking about this. Fotoguzzi (talk) 17:57, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!

I appreciate your message to me, alerting me to events happening in community, a proposal that seems to me to be against the purpose of wikipedia, which would adversely affect the wikipedia work I have done. rkmlai (talk) 16:37, 17 January 2012 (UTC) |
Notice of discussion at the Administrators' Noticeboard
editHello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. --Rschen7754 19:43, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, Tagishsimon. Just in response to this request. I tend to agree with Rschen7754 (and with Imzadi1979 on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways). Sometimes we all get a rush of blood to the head but contacting so many editors in such a way can make a bad situation worse. Contacting interested users is fine but posting to the talk pages of up on 150 users is excessive. Notice was already posted to WikiProject Geographical coordinates and at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion since December 26. Regards, --RA (talk) 21:53, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on others' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Whilst I tend to agree with your arguments, you could really have shot yourself in the foot with this. Bazonka (talk) 22:46, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- You appear to have posted to 125 user talk pages on this, making it probably the largest scale case of canvassing I have ever seen. Make sure you don't make the same mistake again: you could well have been blocked for this. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:17, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- In almost 7 years of editing Wikipedia, this is the single worst incidence of canvassing I have ever seen. --Rschen7754 18:39, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- I know i'm stopping by a little late, but as the closing admin on this RfC, I also have to say that I found it disruptive to the RfC. Now, I understand this is about two weeks done, but this should be your only warning for this. As JamesBWatson said, and i'm saying now, learn from our missteps and move on. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 18:47, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:M11 Google Example.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:M11 Google Example.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rschen7754 00:02, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Re:Yeates co-ordinates
editHi, I was told at the FAC that it needs a couple of tweaks, notably using en-dash to separate Home and 44, and also to ensure the table is accessible using row and col scopes. I read through MOS:DTT, but because of the software I use it's a bit problematic. If you can sort it out then by all means pop it back in as I do think it's a useful thing to have. Coey
editI just wanted to thank you for taking the initiative on the Coey article: I honestly didn't mean for it to be biased, but on reflection I can see that the positive quotations were rather overwhelming and a bit of balance was needed. It looks much better now – thank you again. —Cliftonian (talk) 21:43, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I've had problems with this in several other articles I have written on the Rhodesian Bush War and people involved in it. The description I gave above, which you quoted, is more or less what I have settled on as a neutral description of it in several other articles. I am sure you will agree it is more neutral than the alternatives I have seen other editors produce, which typically include numerous misspellings, refer to the guerrillas as "freedom fighters" and to the Rhodesian government as an "apartheid-style régime", or similar. That may be the point of view of some people, but it is not neutral by any stretch of the imagination. "Guerrillas" is a neutral term, the fighters in question did profess communist ideologies (I will expand on this later), and their aim was to overthrow the government and introduce majority rule by force: whether or not they were justified in doing so is another matter, but even if you agree with their attempting to do so you cannot deny that it was a forcible act, and they were attempting to topple the incumbent administration. If the war was truly only about universal suffrage, then it is a mystery why it continued for a year after fully-inclusive elections were held in 1979 following the Internal Settlement between the government and non-combatant nationalist parties (albeit, in practice, the elections were largely segregated: those who qualified on the pre-1979 "A" roll, which was almost entirely white, voted separately. However, including all races the election drew a turnout of about 65% if my memory serves. Because ZANU and ZAPU boycotted it the UN damned it as a "sham").
- I said earlier I would come back to the communist ideologies of the two militant parties, so here we are. I am surprised that the Wikipedia articles on ZANLA, ZANU, ZIPRA and ZAPU do not mention communism, as both of the parties were Marxist by their own account (Chinese-aligned in the case of ZANU–ZANLA, and Warsaw Pact in the case of ZAPU–ZIPRA). They both announced their intention to form a one-party communist state on their respective foundations in the early 1960s (ZANU coming later, as it was originally a splinter group from ZAPU). I have given one of ZANU's "chimurenga war communiqués" as a reference in quite a few places, including here; the document starts by describing the war as a "revolutionary drive to eliminate settler oppression, imperialism and capitalism" and continues in a similar vein. Both ZANLA and ZIPRA cadres were trained on extended courses in the USSR, China, North Korea, Cuba and so on, and particularly in ZIPRA's case actually had Warsaw Pact advisors with them in Zambia, training a conventional-style army for a potential invasion (which never happened). ZANLA's cap badge was a red star, while ZIPRA's was the hammer and sickle. Interestingly, even though modern Zimbabwe has moved away from this path somewhat, it retains the term "comrade" as a legacy of the war: "comrade" was the term of address for guerrilla fighters from both ZANLA and ZIPRA whilst in the field, as well as the title given to members of each party. When they attended political conferences and so forth, they did so as "Cde. Robert Mugabe", "Cde. Enos Nkala" and so forth (see Geneva Conference (1976), for example). The governing ZANU–PF party (which was created by ZANU absorbing the weakened ZAPU in 1987) actually still retains "comrade" as the honorary prefix for each of its members. At election time the posters still
orderask you to vote for "Cde. Robert Mugabe".
- In short, I don't think the description of the war which is presently given is unfair. The guerrilla armies were communist-backed, communist-trained and advertised the fact that they were communists themselves. I think if we were viewing the war through Coey's eyes the description would be far more extreme: for a start it would refer to the fighters as "terrorists", not guerrillas. —Cliftonian (talk) 22:36, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- When I find the time I will have a whack through the ZANU, ZAPU, ZANLA and ZIPRA articles and remedy this. As far as the Victoria Falls freight train goes, I think you have just demonstrated yourself that the Rhodesian situation is far more complicated than most people understand – which is precisely what makes it so interesting and so important to record properly.
- Feel free to drop me a line another time if there's any way I can help you out with anything. Thanks again for helping with Coey. —Cliftonian (talk) 22:57, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
WikiProject invite
editHi there, Tagishsimon—it's been a little while since I said hello, and thanks again for your help recently. Not sure if you've seen Cracker Barrel lately, but it's much better: a few independent editors helped to rescue it, and I worked with them to bring it to GA status. Alas, Global Automakers remains in disarray, tagged, and now abandoned; one of these days I'll get back to it, but for now I've moved on to other projects.
Anyhow, the real reason I'm writing is invite you (again, I just noticed you were invited early on) to WikiProject Cooperation. These are the folks who helped with Cracker Barrel, and the whole concept is to provide a safe harbor for COI editors to make requests and propose changes—like COI/N, but without the presumption of guilt, one might say. It's had some good early momentum and new members steadily trickling in, but it could always use more. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 14:59, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
