Italian 1938 victory
editHello Jollyroger, I saw you left a message on my talk page about the Italian 1938 victory. I am very very doubtful anyone really believed that Mussolini would have executed the Italian footballers if they did not win. Are there any other instances of Mussolini executing any other sportsmen due to their failure to win? The saying "Win or Die" sounds similar to "Live free or die" the official motto of New Hampshire. I don't think anyone believes that New Hampshire will execute someone who chooses not to be free! I think unless a body of citations is provided showing that the Hungarians were indeed concerned about the lives of the Italians, the current version should not be changed. Regards, Jayanta Sen 20:08, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
White Stripes
editThanks for adding to the White Stripes article. It is a good article, which means it is high quality, and well verified. Do you know what country is playing the version of "Seven Nation Army?" with the commentary by Caresso? Also, do you know of any source that could verify that? If so, leave me a note on my talk page. Thanks!--Esprit15d 19:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: DYK
editI saw the submissions there and I had planned to take a closer look at them. Early mornings (US Central time, which happens to be right now as I type this) are usually the times that I look through and promote an item. I haven't yet had a chance to thoroughly examine your suggestions. One of the requirements that we follow for the Trains portal DYK section is that the fact in the DYK item must be present somewhere in the subject article. I normally promote one DYK suggestion per day and I try to avoid having items from one political entity more than two times in the section on any given day (with about 10,000 articles on rail transport topics worldwide, this hasn't been a problem yet). Slambo (Speak) 10:29, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Re: quality assessment
editJust took a look at the article. I think it's up to B quality now for the breadth of information in the article. If this is going to move up to GA status, it needs a more comprehensive lead section, inline citations and references (which is why I put unref=yes
in the template call) as well as a few more photos (especially useful would be photos of the equipment in revenue service). Slambo (Speak) 13:54, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- For an example on referencing an article that uses mostly printed sources, take a look at California Southern Railroad. When I wrote it, I used the four books listed as primary sources for the article, citing specific facts to page numbers via footnotes, then used online sources to fill in additional information. Slambo (Speak) 11:30, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
editThanks for the barnstar... I guess you referred to Victor Emmanuel II. Nothing special, I simply get stunned to see how poor, old fashioned, uninformative and even DISinformative it was... Bye and good work. --Attilios 09:26, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Barnstar
editHi there, regarding your addition here of the "I KILL YOU!" barnstar - I'm not sure that's a great idea to place on a public page. While I'm not personally offended by it, I think many people would be. I encourage you to remove it. Thanks --Mus Musculus 15:38, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
mentore

Caro Jolly
Stradellino —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.156.34.244 (talk) 11:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- why it.wiki vandals and banned users come to me here to ask forgiving? --Jollyroger 07:21, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Vuoi aiutarmi o no? Per favore. --213.156.34.244 07:54, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- No, non posso.

Ciao a tutti.

Crevalcore train crash
editCould you let me have this for a few minutes for more copyediting. thanks. --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:11, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, yours again. Sorry about the stuff lost from the EC. I'll bring one or two further questions / suggestions to you here in a few minutes. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:34, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- You have a reference to SSC but I can't find out what that is
- You have a reference to Intercity 2225. Is that correct? Again, I can;'t find a useful link for Intercity 2225.
- Extraordinary claims need extra citations ... you might want to provide cites for two sentences in Psychological issues, for the "a human head was seen above the piled up coaches" (or the whole paragraph) and for "Almost all the responders, relatives and survivors who experienced mental problems ultimately managed to overcome them with help from counselors."
- "A 24-hour strike was held on January 16-17". Which year?
- Although I think the article is okay on this point, beware of extending to the article too far into the territory of fighting the "caused victims that could have been avoided by better funding on safety measures" battle.
- It would be better if the references used {{cite web}}, or at least a format in which the link is hidden under a suoitable anchor, such as Bologna, scontro fra treni: morti e feriti, Corriere della Sera, 07 January 2005
- I hope you're happy with my edits, but feel free to add back anything which I've taken away. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:42, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Just on the Cite question, there's a useful wizard in the edit window, as long as you have "Show edit toolbar" set in your Edit preferences. On the first line of the edit box you should find stuff like B, I, (three images), Advanced, Special Characters, Help, Cite. If you select Cite, you'll see in the next line down a dropdown list with a value "Templates" in it. Click on that, find Cite Web, and you'll invoke the wizard. Have fun. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:57, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Your Copyedit Requests
editHi! I've noticed that you recently submitted a few requests for copyedits at the Guild of Copy Editors request page. Although it's great that you are using that option, and I've just copyedited one of those articles myself, we do have a policy of limiting requests to three articles at one time per user. If you could trim the number of requests you currently have open from six to three, that would be great. --Slon02 (talk) 16:09, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
- Hi, I believe those requests for the three earthquake edits is because you have re-requested them to be looked at again, I think that would probably be better done as a request to Slon02 as they were the editor that first copy-edited them, and it seems as if you simply want them to look at changes after their notes. I have removed them as you would be over the three article limit anyway, and posted a note on Slon's page. Chaosdruid (talk) 05:05, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Via Giotto in Foggia building collapse
editI've copyedited Via Giotto in Foggia building collapse. One sentence I don't understand well enough to be able to copyedit it: "He did not intended to speak publicly, but was called for by the victims' relatives, who asked for a meeting to let their reasons be heard.". thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:08, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've done the Via Canosa in Barletta building collapse too. Now you can list some more on Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests if you have any. Thanks for doing the articles - very interesting reading. --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:26, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

editThat was just a mistake. I switched my edit summary for another article where somebody had added a nonexistent category to an article I had previously tagged a few days ago, and then forgot to switch it back to the regular "categorization/tagging" right away. 1570 Ferrara earthquake
editI've done a first pass through 1570 Ferrara earthquake. An epic tale, very enjoyable for me. (I doubt they found it as much fun.) I very much enjoyed the broad context in which you've placed the event; its possible others will think there is too much context - the section Political, economical and religious situation, for instance, could be radically reduced in size, and the information held in other articles in wikipedia - e.g. the Alfonso II article and the Renaissance history of Ferrara. The paragraph at the end, "In 1598 Alfonso died without legitimate heirs," is probably wholly unrelated to the Earthquake - you're really telling the last 28 years of the history of independent Ferrara rather than telling about the Earthquake. For me, I liked the article very much. Thanks for contributing it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

editI've finished the copyedit of the Mazzarino Friars article that you requested, although I brought up some concerns about neutrality on the article's talk page that you might want to address. --Slon02 (talk) 02:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

editBe be sure to check out the talk section, where I've added some comments. Some will probably need to be cleared up before you bring this to WP:GAN (which I suggest you do). Xavexgoem (talk) 08:02, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Pleasure is all mine. I totally understand why you wouldn't want to go through the GAN process (most social structures on WP are admittedly bureaucratic and overly concerned with process). But if you want to, I can help. Xavexgoem (talk) 10:14, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

it.wiki : Call for resignations
edit- it:Wikipedia:Bar/Discussioni/Comma_29_e_Wikipedia
- it:Wikipedia:Bar/Discussioni/Sciopero:_il_punto_della_situazione
Hi, I fully agree with your idea/proposal: meta:Wikimedia_Forum#Call_for_resignations.
The key point is that admins are no way allowed to apply censorship/denial of service to a part or to the whole Wikipedia without having previously:
- fulfilled a poll to the users of the Wikipedia project
- asked WMF for legal support and agreed about the proper thing to do
All the italian sysops that decided the motu proprio strike have betrayed the faith of the users who chose them as admins. We now have to get them resign their sysops status and, altogether, decide a proper guideline that every admin will be compelled to follow when dealing with hot topics such as the freedom of Wikipedia itself.
- Jimbo, I understand that - dealing with italian law and politics - you support the italian style action of dramatic blanking. I don't understand why you agree with the fact that this blanking has been done without consensus: (1) Italian editors have not been proposed any poll, (2) WMF has not been asked any suggestion nor legal support. Please be sure that admins of local projects, in the future, will no more be able to perform such a denail of service without consensus with editors and WMF. ZipoBibrok5x10^8 (talk) 14:54, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- I am told that this was not a small group of admins, that it was discussed for a long time, and that there was strong support. However, having said that, I agree with you that in the future process should be much clearer, and actions like this should be taken in coordination with the Foundation and the wider community. One reason for that is so that we can time it to have maximum impact, give solid PR support from the Foundation, etc. This has never happened before, and we had no warning, so, you know, it's a little complicated.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 15:13, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
and moreover
- I had a question about issue actually. I've been having a very hard time understanding how a process of discussion that even remotely resembles consensus building around this issue could have occurred while no one outside of the Italian Wikipedia was aware of it. It's just not possible unless the Italian Wikipedia is no bigger than a dozen editors. So in what manner exactly was this "under discussion in the Italian community for months," as Jimbo says? Like I said, I'm having a hard time understanding that, and maybe Jimbo or someone from the Italian Wiki can shed light on this.Griswaldo (talk) 15:07, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- These are good questions and I'm sure clear light will be shed on them in due course. I would love it if you would go and ask them and then report back here what you learn.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 15:16, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Talking ad Jimbonem is only a strong suggestion, but please get in touch and let's start a proper democratic - horizontal process where we will decide proper guidelines and proper reaction to this shameful event. ZipoBibrok5x10^8 (talk) 23:54, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Or, indeed, admirable event, depending upon your point of view. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:19, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Moby Prince disaster
editHi. Just to let you know that I've put a comment on the GOCE requests page to explain why I think this article is not yet ready for copy editing. In summary, I think you should first address concerns about article splitting, acknowledging the source article, and presenting the citations properly. If you will address those concerns, I am willing to do a copy edit, as I read Italian and will be able to check the source article and the citations. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 09:18, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
