WikiCup 2012 October newsletter
editThe 2012 WikiCup has come to a close; congratulations to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), our 2012 champion! Cwmhiraeth joins our exclusive club of previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009), Sturmvogel 66 (2010) and Hurricanehink (2011). Our final standings were as follows:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions)
- Sasata (submissions)
- Grapple X (submissions)
- Casliber (submissions)
- Muboshgu (submissions)
- Miyagawa (submissions)
- Ruby2010 (submissions)
- Dana Boomer (submissions)
Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
- The featured article award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for four featured articles in the final round.
- The good article award also goes to Grapple X (submissions), for 19 good articles in the second round.
- The list award goes to Muboshgu (submissions), for three featured lists in the final round.
- The topic award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for three good topics (with around 40 articles) in round 4.
- The did you know award goes to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), for well over 100 DYKs in the final round.
- The news award goes to ThaddeusB (submissions), for 10 in the news items in round 3.
- The picture award goes to Grandiose (submissions), for two featured pictures in round 2.
- The reviewer award goes to both Ruby2010 (submissions) (14 reviews in round 1) and Grandiose (submissions) (14 reviews in round 3).
- Finally, for achieving an incredible bonus point total in the final round, and for bringing the top-importance article frog to featured status, a biostar has been awarded to Cwmhiraeth (submissions).
Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.
Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talk • email) and The ed17 (talk • email) 00:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

editHey, I just saw this picture of Jen at the premiere of What to Expect..., you should crop it and upload it for her filmography page, because it's her at a film premiere. Idk..just a thought:) It's like the only pic from recently that isn't from her tour. Arre 02:00, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Will do. Can you please put the tour pics here in the Dance Again Tour category? Zac (talk · contribs) 02:06, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Um i don't know how to do that, sorry:( I'm trying to work on Dance Again World Tour btw. What do u think of the concert synopsis? Arre 02:22, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Just change the category on the pics from Jennifer Lopez to Dance Again World Tour. Duh. xD Awesome, ofc. Zac (talk · contribs) 02:23, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- All of them individually? Arre 02:27, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

- Why did you change your name back? :O Arre 02:48, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Because I couldn't get access to commons under Zac. I only have the name Zac on en.wiki, while I have the SUL for Status. Statυs (talk) 02:49, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Status! Do you think School District 53 Okanagan Similkameen would be a good candidate for featured list status, as right now I'm afraid it doesn't pass 3b of the featured list criteria. This is the only article for this, and it can't be merged into anything, however, I personally believe it passes, but am not sure of what others think. Do you think it does? Thoughts? Thanks so much, TBrandley 03:12, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- I don't see how it could be merged into anything else, so I'd say go for it! Statυs (talk) 03:23, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I also asked NapHit, so first I'll see what he thinks, then nominate it. Cheers! TBrandley 03:26, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

editWhy did you replace the image I uploaded, twice, when there was nothing wrong with the one I had uploaded. You wouldn't even explain it in either of your edit summaries. Do you have an issue with me, or the things I upload? livelikemusic my talk page! 23:26, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- It seems like you have a problem with me... I uploaded a less sharp version and you reverted. Statυs (talk) 23:31, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
- Because you didn't even explain the change. If you had explained why, I wouldn't have reverted. Seemed to me that you were just doing it because of me, since I didn't see any issue with the quality of the one I uploaded. It was crisp and clear. That's all I wanted to know, thanks. livelikemusic my talk page! 19:36, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

I was bored and I started it and added stuff...do you think I've gone overboard with it? Lol Arre 07:30, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Of course not! It's great! Amazing job! Statυs (talk) 12:37, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I didn't know that there were so many great sources to use. What do u think of the pic? Should u upload another 1? Or is it okay? Arre 12:50, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

- It's good. I would prefer if each of the same sites or used, and I like Still one better, so could you upload Glow from the same source? Statυs (talk) 13:00, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Oh okay, cool :). Yea, that's true. I'll see if they have one for Glow. Any other perfumes u want me to work on for her? It was actually kinda fun working on Still, because it is my fave JLo perfume! Arre 13:57, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- You know how many she has. xD Pick one. Preferably in order. Obviously all the flankers will stay in one article, like how Glow is. Statυs (talk) 14:01, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- I'd love to the Live and do its flankers on its page, like how Glow is done. Not that into Deseo. By the way there was a pic of Glow on the site but it's dark even though it's good quality. Arre 14:07, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, not a very good pic. Let's just worry about the pics of the perfumes later, when all the articles are up. Live sounds great to do next! It's next in order, too, if I'm correct (she has so many I lose track). I can do Deseo! Statυs (talk) 14:09, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yea. By the way, Estée Lauder are idiots! did you know that? I never knew that they rejected making Glow. Yea u can do Deseo. Then we can move onto Love & Glamour. Glowing is such a loner I wonder if she will make a flanker called Shining or sth Lol. Arre 14:19, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

- Not being rude, just telling the truth. Again ignoring valid comments/concerns isn't helping and this could have probably been finished and promoted with no further problems a long time ago but of course the WP:IDHT-attitude has to interfere and ruin it. What a shame! Till 13:03, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Again, the only comments I ignored were yours, and you know damn well why. Give me a break. As usual, you're in here with your rude behavior. I don't fail or refuse to get any point. "In some cases, editors have perpetuated disputes by sticking to an allegation or viewpoint long after the consensus of the community has decided that moving on to other topics would be more productive." - I actually don't know why but whatever. Btw, I actually went on wikibreak cause this irritated me, but now I'm actually quite pleased to see it, as it shows that I've had some impact on your life that you would do that for me. :) And again, why haven't my issues been addressed? Till 13:16, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- I literally said above it, please re-read. Oh, you retired because I was keeping track of you? I thought it was because you realized how far you were on to attacking me, so you had to stop so you weren't blocked. It's funny to me that you'd still think I'd resolve any issues you point out, after all of this. I wish you'd just leave me alone, I'd like to do the same. If you have a problem with someone you leave them be. Statυs (talk) 13:20, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- Impact, though? Is that the best you could think of? Statυs (talk) 13:21, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's true. What other reason would someone follow somebody's else contributions on a regular basis and keep track of it? Because you want to take note of my incivility and have me blocked? Yay! Good job! How about a round of applause for that. Till 13:30, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

- Honestly you really do have the maturity of an eight year old. "I wish you'd just leave me alone" - hypocrite. You insist on me leaving you alone and yet all you do is file ANI reports on me, keep track of my edit summaries, stalk my contributions, comment on things that I comment on, and just constantly follow everything that I do here. Such a massive hypocrite. If you ever wonder why so many other editors have had problems with you here, then take a look in the mirror. As the saying goes - don't dish it out if you can't take it. In simple terms; if you want me to leave you alone, then don't keep track of my edit summaries and plan ANI reports about me. Kthanksbai. Till 13:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- I filed one ANI report against you, and that is indeed true. How has Swifty had a problem with me? He's a friend of mine, and I still talk to him daily following his indef block. It's late there, and I have to go to school soon, but within the next 5 days, which I have off, I wish to speak with you (not on here). Good move at moving to my talk, by the way. Statυs (talk) 13:55, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
- But seriously, it you left me alone I wouldn't have to do anything. Mostly every 'track' is a response to me from you. Statυs (talk) 13:58, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

editOh I didn't know that, thanks for sharing that! Regards, Decodet (talk) 15:54, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- You mean the iTunes store, right? Because I couldn't find a "composer field" on it, only in my iTunes library but since the album hasn't been released yet I don't have it on it. Decodet (talk) 16:05, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, on the iTunes Store. You have to right click on the sections that show "name", etc and checkmark "composer". Statυs (talk) 16:25, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Phillip Phillips' Home
editIf you are unaware of American Idol tradition, the winner digital single is for the always released the day after the finale night. This one happens to be included in the album, but it is the single. The new one is exactly the same recording, the only difference with the new one is that it has a new picture. It doesn't mean the single was released in June, it only means that that one with new picture was released that day. Hzh (talk) 00:29, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- I am fully aware of "Idol tradition", thank you very much. I'm just going by the sources. It was released as a single (which is a song released APART from an album) on that date. Simple. Statυs (talk) 00:31, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- Note that on iTunes itself it said the single was released on May 23, 2012 - Phillip Phillips. This is the same article as the one on Allmusic. Also Billboard said it is the single in an article written in May 30, 2012 here, before the June date. Hzh (talk) 01:57, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- All those dates show to be correct to its first release on the album, again, not as a single. Evidence doesn't show it's SINGLE release, which is what the article is about, until June 7th. Statυs (talk) 02:19, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Must you be so difficult?
editIt's quite clear that I don't want those unproductive comments on your talk page. Why are you being so deliberately counterproductive by reverting me? Till 09:44, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

- You can't pretend that I don't exist and I can't ignore your forever because we have too much history, I mean we spent day-by-day talking to each other for goodness sake. However what is possible is to remove those nonsense comments above that I was trying to get rid of and this thread too and just start fresh again for the benefit of both of us. As you can see I'm already trying to rebuild frienships with someone else and I really don't want to waste any more time on this project with fights about the most silly, superficial things that have absolutely no value at all (sometimes even about nothing, literally <see above>) so I am asking you to remove these stupid comments and for both of us to walk away from this dead horse and be on good terms. Thankyou. Till 10:19, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

editWhatsup man? Been a while. I was wondering if you could take a few minutes and do a review at the The Emancipation of Mimi FAC? I'm struggling to get activity to I'm trying to round up any of my old peeps that are still active!--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 08:27, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- It has been quite a while! I'm pretty good, how have you been? I would, but I know that I'm not experienced enough for such a high level as FAC; sorry. I'm sure you'll get some comments too. I have been meaning to ask you, would you like to work on "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" together? Both mine and your girl have recorded a cover of the song. It's really the only song article left that needs expansion for (my eventual) plan to get On the 6 to become a good topic. Let me know. I don't have time at the moment, but down the road aways. Drinks for You (Ladies Anthem)
editwhat do you think of the song? Arre 12:40, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't heard it yet. Statυs (talk) 14:34, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I will leave a critic commentary here. The song has a very good beat and sound, but the lyrics are not living up to standard [mostly Pitbull's part]. The vocal performance of Lopez is astonishing in my opinion, very sexy and stylish. Althoguh, some repetitiveness damage what could have been an amazing song. It has potential as a hit, but it won't follow the success of "On the Floor" or "Give Me Everything". — ΛΧΣ21™ 16:09, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's an OK song! Of course, Pitbull has to go and ruin everything he touches as usual. Although, that's sort of a lie, because "On the Floor" and "Give Me Everything" are both amazing songs. I would have liked it better if it wasn't so alcoholic-like. One moment, we are just drinking on the weekend to relax after a long week, and then we just decide to drink every single day of the week! Statυs (talk) 01:08, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- I'm only here for J.Lo's part. But atleast I can stand Pitbull's part. I like the song it's so different to other generic crap. But it will definitely not be a hit. Don't think it will be a single. Great description, "astonishing" "sexy and stylish" ~true. Arre 01:36, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi. In response to your message to me earlier, WP:TVPLOT suggests that, in a short summary outside of the episode article itself (if there is one or not, doesn't matter), it should be from "100–200 words for each, with upwards of 350 words for complex storylines", it doesn't really matter if there is an episode article or not. If it has an actual episode article, then it should be more words says that same guideline, but in this case, it should be "100–200 words for each, with upwards of 350 words for complex storylines", as already said. "The plot summary is an overview of the episode's main events, so avoid minutiae like dialogue, scene-by-scene breakdowns, individual jokes and technical detail" says that guideline if it helps, and don't hide spoilers per WP:SPOILERS (just in case it is). In your list, most seem good, but some are too long, such as episode 22 summary. I'd be inclined to give a peer review, and I thank you for modelling it of off my list. I have made minor changes, as you probably know. Cheers, TBrandley 21:24, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I'm not familiar with WP:TVPLOT, thanks for pointing that out for me. I'm not too familiar with TV articles, but I wanted to give it a go for one of my favorite shows. The first two episode summaries were rewritten, do those seem like a good length and dept? Yeah, episode 22... haha. You're most welcome, and thank you so much for using that date tool! OMG! I haven't heard of it before, so I got it working for me, and it's so damn helpful! Statυs (talk) 21:27, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, the first, even five, look very good, and your welcome. Yeah, I love working with television articles, and lately other ones as well. And about the script, no problem, and that's not the only useful script. There's also a dash, overlinking, general formatting, advisor script, and more, see User:TBrandley/vector.js for my other good scripts. They're very good. Back to the list, I will be providing a peer review here shortly. Cheers, TBrandley 21:57, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Here's my quick review, I took at look at everything other than episode plot summaries. Looks pretty good overall:
- The featured list criteria is against the use of non-free use rationale images. Any other replacement images?
- Avoid periods in image captions that aren't full sentences
- I would say there is too much plot details in the lede, and too little other information, such as production, reception information and such
- Also, first paragraph should be split into two, as it is a really bigger paragraph
- Could writers and directors be referenced?
- Reference problems; "TV Line" should be "TVLine"; "TVbytheNumbers" should be "TV by the Numbers"
- How is "Contactmusic" a high-quality reliable source?

Please stop removing reliable sources and referenced content
editI have only noticed your edits twice recently and twice you have removed perfectly valid content and sources. Here you removed a huge chunk of content from - Home (Phillip Phillips song), claiming that it is unsourced when in fact some of those deleted content are in fact sourced, the content in the Critical reception was sourced to here. It looks like you never even look at the source before deleting it. If the reference wasn't done properly, then there is the citation need tag and other tags you can use. Here in Taylor Swift discography you revert sales number from perfectly valid sources, without giving proper rationale why that is not acceptable and that another outdated one would be preferable. Roughstock is a perfectly valid source, it is not less reliable than Billboard, they get their numbers from the same source which is SoundScan. Please try to engage in editing in a more positive manner. Hzh (talk) 01:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. I removed unsourced content from "Home", and Roughstock is certainly not as reliable as Billboard is. Statυs (talk) 01:23, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- The source of the numbers are the same - SoundScan, there is no such thing as "not as reliable" when their sources are the same. As I said, most of the content in Critical Reception for Home were actually sourced, if poorly done (they are not inline citation, but instead of deleting them, you should have used other tags instead). Hzh (talk) 01:31, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- A Blogspot blog could get their information from SoundScan, does that make it reliable for usage? They weren't sourced at all. Some people have different ways to deal with unsourced content, I, personally, just remove it. I have updated the sales for Red from a link from MTV. Statυs (talk) 01:33, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Roughstock is not just a blog. It is a magazine site for country music news, it existed before there were blogs. I have no idea what you mean by unsourced, these sites have to pay money to get those numbers, they can't invent them, and the numbers always tally with others (like Yahoo Music, Billboard, MTV) when it is possible to check and compare, meaning they are legitimate numbers. Hzh (talk) 01:47, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- You are correct. I've checked around about the website, and it seems quite reliable. I will not make that mistake again. Unsourced meaning that the content is there, without a source to where it is coming from. Thank you for your comments. Statυs (talk) 02:01, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Edits in violation of mosdate
editA number of your edits, including [1] [2] [3], are in violation of mosdate, and WP:DATERET in particular. Also, by simply undoing, you removed other fixes I did in some of those edits. This constitutes notice that if you continue to change the established style of articles, you may be WP:BLOCKed without further warning. Gimmetoo (talk) 14:02, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've read those pages up and down, and don't see what you could possibly be talking about. Note that your reason for reverting me consisted of "undo", "." and "back"... Very good explanation. Statυs (talk) 14:04, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- And if you're referring to the fact that I'm switching how the references are formatted on several articles I ACTUALLY CREATED (if you're talking about the major contributor thing, in which I AM in all the articles I changed). Statυs (talk) 14:05, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- See WP:DATERET. These articles evolved with a predominant style. Arbitrarily changing styles like that disregards the effort and time spent by numerous other editors, especially the main articles that have existed for years. Gimmetoo (talk) 16:27, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- Seriously... I wasn't going around changing every format for every article in existence. I was changing the format of articles that I am the main contributor of. I get that you probably see this a lot (probably explains your lack of effort in explaining things), but you really need to assume some good faith, and not throw around "you may be blocked". Statυs (talk) 21:50, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry to intrude, but I would just to comment that most of these articles (Jennifer Lopez discography, No Me Ames, etc) weren't compiled from years of hard work from numerous other editors. Status created some of them and substantially expanded most of them. Additionally, I have encouraged and even asked him to format dates this way per MOSNUM. It's just easier and more manageable. The fact was ... that will.i.am and Britney Spears's 2012 single "Scream & Shout" contains a sample of the opening line of Spears' 2007 single "Gimme More": "It's Britney, bitch"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Scream & Shout. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Orphaned non-free media (File:Rihanna Diamonds World Tour.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Rihanna Diamonds World Tour.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:27, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Articles for creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1015 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our help desk.
If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.
Plus, reviewing is easy when you use our new semi-automated reviewing script!
